40 some years ago, I was using the TR-606 tom output to advance the steps of the JX-3P sequencer. In this way, I didn't have to consume valuable steps with rests - I could record all the notes and chords, one after another and let the 606 dictate the rhythm of the sequence. Those were the days.

I appreciate the love you have for the JX3P. Its my favorite synth I own and it irks me that it doesn't quite get the same praise as its contemporary siblings. Thank you for the great videos. I used to love tinkering about with the sequencer as an 8 year old with zero music theory and still arrange something fun. I still have little music theory 30 years later... but still find it fun.

The JX-3P brings to mind F1 racing stripes and mirrored sunglasses. It's a great synth.

Spent a lot of time some 40 years ago on that fine device !!! The JX3P also holds up surprisingly well in both a CD and busy LIVE recording/MIX. Very handy & good video - THX! Another tip: add a midi cable and take the MIDI out into the MIDI in with that one cable - a 4 OSC /voice SUPER powerful;; sounding synth emerges with some flanging for free - try it if e.g. playing with a Rhodes piano or DX 7 (clav or e-piano sound) underneath ( - LIVE) it works very well!!! It reduces the p[olophony from 6 to 3 but with a sustain pedal and some reverb/echo thailand proceeding in playing (speed) that does not have to bother you too much........... VALUE FOR MONEY in this (very light-weight - synth)! HIGHLY RECOMMEND is shopping for a vintage analog synth! Make a perfect fit with e.g a Yamaha DX7 (with added a little bit of chorus/reverb if needed).

Thanks for the video. I’ve had my JX3P for over 25 years and never really used the sequencer as I’ve used a DAW. I will need to pull out my JX3P and try the sequencer. It seems like it’s fun to use.

Now I love my JX-3P more than before, planning to do something with sequencer and Boss DR-55 drum machine, maybe some early The Cure songs

Interesting and well done walkthru… looks like Roland incorporated some of the sequencer tech from the JSQ and the subsequent MSQ line of midi recorders. I use two MSQ100 in the studio, loads of fun! Peace

Is the jx3p sequencer multitimbral? Can you record more than 1 patch?

If only we had You Tube in 1985 😀 I got a secondhand jx without a manual for about $120 when most everyone was dumping their analog synths to upgrade to Dx7 etc, or "go back to basic's",aka acoustic instruments, so I never realized what the sequencer could really do, pretty cool wish I still had it, stupid prices now for these old synths and the PG programmer is rare as.

Hi Espen, thank you for the useful explanation. Can you also play muted notes on the 1st sequenced track? Or only real notes?

I should have got this instead of the 106 as second synth in 1994. I love step sequencers as the 101,202,303 etc. and this has cross mod. The boring 106 not

@EspenKraft Жыл бұрын
My channel is going on the 6th year now, showing things like this, and you come up with "easier to use a piano roll"..... yeah, that's a real enlightenment. ;-)
@EuroDJ Жыл бұрын
@@EspenKraft I do not argue. Good stuff , good Tips and tricks . But if you showed right here how much faster and more convenient it is done in a piano roll today, the material would not get worse. Only on the contrary - better, more interesting, more revealing. The one who today is used to working quickly and efficiently in the Piano Roll - he looks at this trick and just does not understand why you still show it and for sure use it? If there are better ways to work... In my opinion, such a reaction of misunderstanding was to be expected when the video does not fully cover the material, taking into account today's technologies and working methods. And please... Do not take the comment of different people with different experiences as a personal insult.

What you're saying makes absolutely no sense at all. If I make a video about the thrills of owning a 1969 Ford Mustang, should I make a comparison with my 2022 Toyota as well? Just to show how much more convenient a modern car is?
