Design reminds me of the GE Z-wave paddle switches from 8-10 years ago. I like it! Also, your opening sentence should have said its the Martin Jerry new switch - not the Tasmota switch.

Yup! Fun days of flashing the Sonoff basics and shoving the duponts in the holes.

Honestly I still do prefer tasmota for light switches.

On the fence as well but I do have a 4 button one for Esphome with BT proxy on it.

@@digiblurDIY Same here - the BT proxy is nice feature.

When Tasmota started making it difficult to OTA other firmware, I made a point of removing it from all my devices and I'll never use it ever again.

*Edit, I missed that they have changed the hardware, so what I wrote below does not apply to newer switches. Sorry! Perhaps you have dealt with it elsewhere, but I have a few MJ tasmota switches and it has always worked to: 1. Access the tasmota ui and install tasmota lite to free up memory 2. Create my esphome bin file then 3. Access the tasmota ui and upload the bin to convert to esphome.

That's esp8266 on those. You can't do the same on the new esp32 models unfortunately

These things would be way better if the white night light was software controllable. Still bought a couple through your link because I like them overall.

I'm not gunna do this. But based on your comment around 13:00 in, in general if I have a BIN file, I can skip the "prepare for first use" on an ESP32 device?
@digiblurDIY
@digiblurDIY 14 сағат бұрын
Yes use your own bin to skip the prepare part.

If you don't want to open the switch, perhaps check the how-to I posted in comment above. It's possible to do this just using OTA.

You will get this error on future ESPHome updates unfortunately. "ERROR Error binary size: Unknown error from ESP" since the partitions are incorrect between Tasmota and ESPHome. Several of us have been through this in this past.

Why not just use a WAGO splitter instead of soldering?

Works as well. Or just twist them together is what I used to do.

Do you know that if it has tasmota, you can just user one SO command that will allow flashing of non-tasmota firmware and you can directly upload the ESPhome firmware, without any disassembling?
@digiblurDIY
@digiblurDIY 13 сағат бұрын
You can not. That's an esp8266 thing and the SO commands hasn't been required for a while now. These are esp32 switches

@@digiblurDIY Not to force my ideas, but I just did it: 1. with tasmota installed, upgrade to latest version (14.4.1) 2. then flash the tasmota32 safeboot (OTA version) 3. prepare the ESPhome binary, select manual download, get the OTA version, not the Factory one! 4. go to tasmota in safeboot, it will have only 3-4 menu options, first one is firmware update 5. don't use the OTA update, upload the OTA binary from ESPhome 6. click upgrade 7. WAIT, just wait, it will take ~2 minutes. Enjoy :)

@rklauco and this flashes the correct partitions too and esphome OTA works?
@rklauco
@rklauco 12 сағат бұрын
@digiblurDIY yep, just try, you'll see. Give it the time, it is slow, but works.
