Race set up for the Frenchman with Desert Orchid, Beau Ranger and Cybrandian going off like scolded cats from the start.

Looks like they went off much too fast this year. Dessie looked a spent force by the time they jumped the second last - as did Beau Ranger.

always preferred simon sherwood on dessie think he really knew what made him tick don't mind clin brown or dunwoody but this race shows the horse could have won 5 king geroges if he'd had a more thoughtful ride

If the French had sent their extraordinary horse Katko, he would have won by 50 lengths ....

Story goes that the early pace was quicker than the 1987 or 1988 2000 Guineas.

Nupsala probably had the beating of Forgive N'Forget that day though it would have been interesting to see how close he might have got.

Such a shame that we don`t get those french challengers coming over for the King George. They added a lot of spice to the event , The Fellow, Nupsala, Algan, First Gold, Val d`Alene, Jair Du cochet mainly thanks to the adventurous Francois Doumen.
