The best pure contact hitter of the baseball the sport has ever seen! If u wanted to attend a clinic to learn the perfect approach and display of the art, Tony Gwynn would be the man! He didn't just try for anything in particular! The man just flat out hit with the same grace that he treated people and the sport! With the utmost class! And that megawatt smile to boot! Batting-wise, we may never see another who had the complete hitting arsenal Gwynn had

He was just coming into the majors in the early '80s while I was in Little League! I'll turn 49 in January and my three favorite players in those days were Schmidt, Tony and Tim Raines! I vividly remember his entire ML career

Tony Gwynn was my idol, growing up. He was San Diego - and so was I. He wore the brown and yellow with pride...and that's hard to do.

What a hitter and that strike season took away his chance to hit 400 and I honestly believe that would have that year

While in my adult hood, I had Tony to use as a guide on how to try to be a good person. I already loved him ss a player. He reminded me of Rod Carew.

Dude was an artist. I appreciate that he was loyal, but it's too bad he played on mostly bad teams.

Actually, he lived in Poway (as did I), a suburb NE of San Diego. He is Poway's greatest pride.

I hate to say this, but I feel this is part of the reason why Padre fans loved him. He Looked like one of them. B.abe Ruth was even in worse shape. Tony was honest about it, "I just soda pop so much." I wouldn't doubt he liked Budweiser after a 5-6 game as well!"!! Itwas part of his charm, but I get what you mean because he was a spectacular 2 sport athlete coming out of San Diego State.
