I get the feeling that this "apart from" line is a cover your butt kind of line and there could be some evidence that ESPN did have a conversation with a conference about inviting some big 12 schools. If they didn't add this "apart from" line and denied everything, their letter could actually be used as evidence of deception. Of course this is all ALLEGEDLY until actual evidence is presented.

@timmeyer91913 жыл бұрын
Normally I would agree with you, but there's more at stake here than realized. The annual athletic partnership with UT elevates the other partners' (in this case Baylor, TCU, and Tech) athletic teams. This elevation increases their monetary value and revenue as power five schools get. Without that they probably lose 2/3 of their revenue. Who cares, right? Well that revenue pays people's livelihoods like with facility construction/maintenance workers. It also pays for many of the non revenue generating sports like wrestling and gymnastics and their athletic scholarships. Then, there is the indirect revenue the communities make with home football games: hotels, restaurants, bars, and other areas. Yes, UT gets more revenue in the SEC but that doesn't go to Waco, Fort Worth, and Lubbock communities. It doesn't provide athletic and academic scholarships for those other universities. That power 5 status matters to many people in those communities. Jobs and scholarships will be lost. I don't blame the remaining 8 schools one bit to fight for every dime they can get, and they absolutely have the right to feel bitter about the departure. They lose more than money.

Lobby to have NCAA change out of state recruiting rules to where it is the same has in state recruiting! Go back to taking partial qualifiers! Extend college baseball to summer to generate revenue! Go to 5 years of eligibility do away with redshirting increase scholarships to 90 or 100! Would then see fewer higher quality players willing to sit on bench at bigger name schools. Form up a organization of schools not in super 4 conferences who could get more tv revenue and either not play unless everyone in top division gets same tv share of money the top 4 conferences let them beat themselves up! So much talk about something that is really straight forward. The exit by Texas and Oklahoma is in the domain of the lawyers now. They will play one last year and be gone no matter what the monetary value ends up being. I expect it to be closer to the 80 million figure for each since there is no reason for the Big-12 to let them go without a high cost. We are still in the shocked stage. That is coming to an end and for some, like me, not shock at all. I always expect something dumb to happen in college sports. The remaining Big-12 members cannot afford to leave and the only way they can get out without paying is if 7 of the ten all leave at the same time. Not happening. We are all staying put. Once they all realize that the better and we can all get down to business. Texas mucked up expansion over the years just as Miami did in the Old Big East and then left. That interference is gone now. The Big-12 needs to expand immediately. But, doing so involves conferences and media rights and usually some for of a buyout, with one exception: BYU. The Big-12 needs to invite BYU into the conference immediately and work out the details as they come up. BYU needs this because without a conference they are going to be left out of the national picture. Notre Dame has a seat at that table, BYU does not. The Big-12 then needs to confer with the AAC Commissioner and ask to speak with Cincinnati, Houston and Memphis right away. All of this needs to be completely in the open so that it does not appear to be a raid but rather an offer. If all goes well and there is no reason why it should not, the Big-12 invites all 4 of these new institutions to being play in the Big-12 July 1 2022. The Big-12 simultaneously, erects a CCG format for the cash and exposure. Hopefully, calmer heads and threats of opening the back door conversations to the public eye will keep ESPN semi-honest and decent media package will be retained. If not, there are alternatives. All of the Big-12 members have extensive tier 3 rights that bring in millions. It will not match what we got before but it will not be shabby and might still approach what the ACC brings in. Then long term, the future is obviously settling at 16, so we begin to explore the Big-16 and consider who 13 through 16 might be. Many assume the super conference is coming, meaning 16+, I do not think so. This puts the Big-12 at a cross roads, does it wait for a potential Pac-12 implosion brought on by the Big Ten or does it grab the next best 4, even if they have issues with those 4? Time will tell what is going to happen. Arizona and Arizona State constantly receive some chatter. How much of it is warranted I do not know. If they cam in, would Colorado and Utah follow suit? It would be a huge gain if that happened, but the more likely scenario is the Big-12 expands to the Big-16 by adding members like UCF, USF, SMU and Boise State. I would be fine with that as well.
