OU fan here. I am enjoying the conversation. From my perspective (and that of many Sooners fans), I think it would be better to have a conference like the Big 12 in the middle of the country, but once Nebraska, Missouri, Texas A&M, and Colorado left it was just a matter of time until the conference split up. There just are not enough TV sets or premier programs in this part of the country to make a top level conference work without those teams. There are no big teams that could be poached, and adding non-power 5 schools wasn’t going to stabilize things. It’s too bad. I got the impression over the years that OU tried to make things work, but when the tv partners indicated an unwillingness to consider renegotiating contracts early, supposedly did not like any of the possible expansion options, gave the conference bad tv slots for premiere games, etc., the writing was on the wall. Hopefully some of the conference teams find okay landing spots.

@@debbieelder5140 no we said how much 😉 jk. But really I think Big 12 leadership is the real reason for the move. OU can't do much more than we've already done in the Big 12. Going to struggle to win a national championship without better competition and not enough money to make it worth it. Thank you TX for the initial dominoes falling though. Pretty suckie that they are going to benefit from that though but makes sense OU wouldn't let the rivalry game go away.. SEC was not where I wanted us to go, but I didn't think OU could afford to stay at the Big 12 anymore.

Texas Tech alum here... you are VERY correct. You don't go to Lubbock unless you have to. Still would fit in well in PAC-12, though not because of Lubbock. More in spite of Lubbock. The campus is just as beautiful as any of the dozens I have toured visiting friends and such and The Jones gets packed and is ELECTRIC. The enrollment has been growing year after year for the last decade or so, very heavily, and we have alum and fans spread out all over the nation. PAC-12 should be thrilled to have the Red Raiders, but Tech should proceed with caution. Might do better to keep the BIGXII together and try to be a top dog there, now that the annoying big brother is leaving... I'm pretty sure they were adopted. TAMU is the brother we would love to hate, Texas is the brother we don't want at all. GOOD RIDDANCE! I hope they have fun getting STOMPED in the SEC

@@tmjel1 definitely more Red Raiders come from DFW than anywhere else, but the numbers coming from the Houston area, as well as San Antonio/Austin(to a lesser extent), have been growing fast. If we don't go to the PAC-12, we need to welcome UH to the revamped Big XII. Adding UH to the mix doesn't dilute the Texas market, it would be a positive for Tech and I would be very happy to see Houston move up to a power 5. I think that could be a very mutually beneficial partnership. Opening game this season will be a good preview of what could be.

If all these conferences are going to consolidate teams then the they just need to become their own entity. Separate the "big" schools from the smaller ones. Divide the NCAA into tiers and and put the teams in the "tiers" into geographical divisions. Very sure there would be some big money television contracts to watch some of the games from these groupings of people. Could separate the super divisions into sub divisions for championship games. Scheduling could rotate by years and keep some games as rivalry games every year. Have "Super Tiers" with "Super Divisions" with Tier 1 teams. And with the onset of the Playoff System, they need to put a playoff system into each separate Tier so that you have a national champion from each tier. This gives the teams that aren't in the Tier 1 Super Divisions a chance to win a national championship themselves in their own division. If you have some teams from the FCS that want to join the Tier 2 then they have to meet certain criteria. If not then FCS becomes NCAA Tier 3. Kansas, Missouri, Colorado, and Virginia to the Big Ten in two divisions, East and West. Play nine division games and three inter-divisional games as a warm up replacing non-conference games. Then, have 1-10 East play 1-10 West on the "championship" Saturday the week after the regular season ends. Big Ten champion play the Pac-12 (or Pac-whatever) champion in an actual Rose Bowl. That is a good COLLEGE football year.
