The biggest haters in Mexico are people who take hater narratives at face value and/or uninformed casuals. The thing is, boxing is higher profile in Mexico which is good in many ways, but it also attracts a lot of haters with an agenda and opinionated casuals. Also in the Spanish language media they oftentimes don't get the full details, and there are a lot of sources just looking to generate clickbait revenue with hater takes. The ESPN Spanish language side is actually a big source so it's no surprise with Stephen showing bias on the English end. On the spanish side, they have a guy named Faitelson who's main job is to hate on Canelo for the clickbait. And they have another guy named Pilletti who has a position on ESPN p4p voting panel even though he's such a hater that he runs with full blown conspiracies like suggesting Canelo's fights like Smith were staged. On top of that you have guys like Marquez who has history of personal beef with Canelo and just comes up with any nonsense. For instance, when Canelo was set to face Bivol, Marquez straight up said he was cherryipicked punching bag when any knowledgeable and objective person realized it was the most difficult fight possible. The ridiculous part is when Zurdo was set to face Bivol, there were Mexican Canelo haters saying he was a true warrior unlike Canelo even though Zurdo had literally only faced one reigning champ in his career many years ago against a worn Abraham, and those fans said Zurdo would show him how it's really done but Zurdo ended up losing in a more one sided way despite having the massive size advantage lol But back to this topic: it was Benavidez who took himself out of the unification picture by dropping his belt twice, refusing a Plant unification with Benavidez's manager publicly saying he would not make this fight fight, and he also never fought his mandatory Callum Smith who held the WBC and Ring belts, and rejected another title shot at 175 even after being stripped. But this is the fighter people praise above Canelo lol? Fact of the matter is that Canelo took the fights David ducked out on. Canelo has faced more champs than any fighter this era yet haters ridiculously suggest that his legacy hinges on a bottomfeeder like Benavidez who has one of his leftovers as his top win at 168. Even more ridiculous, Canelo doesn't even have mandatory due and didn't even ruled out fighting Benavidez unlike Benavidez who flat out refused to fight the other champs at 168 and 175. Basically, the biggest criticism against Canelo is that he's expected to fight everyone in boxing all at once while a guy like Benavidez pads his 0 while holding out for 1 fight retirement pay.

These aren't good fights, Crawford is 147 and started his career at 135 moving up to 168 to fight Canelo. Yeah the names are big but it's unfair. It's a fight at 168 that is beyond fair and it's benavidez. The reason Canelo is fighting Charlo and Crawford is bcuz he has a better chance at winning. Boxing is going downhill fast
