And he might also sign or not sign within 24 hours or sometime after. The single possibility not being discussed is that Ohtani might not sign at all. Conjecture can really not be worth the time. Wait and see, I say.

The one guy doesn't know what he's talking about when he said the Jays aren't well liked across Canada. Maybe he got them confused with the Maple Leafs. If he had ever bothered to notice the games when the Jays visit Minnesota or Seattle... both have Jays fans in attendance from the Prairie Provinces and BC and they fill 1/3 of the stadiums. They are truly a national team, being the only Canadian team in MLB. Ohtani being in Toronto would be a national sensation. I have no doubt Rogers, their corporate owner, would be running him in national cellphone, wireless and cable commercials.. and making boatloads of money off of that.

Yeah that was an uneducated statement. The Jay's are the ONLY team that is like by most Canadians. He was definitely thinking the Leafs 😅

But what if his elbow injury affects some hitting and pitching
@berto82328 ай бұрын
Hitting wise, he was already hitting with the injury without impacting his performance. The pitching is the biggest question.

I truly don’t get all of the whining about Ohtani keeping things private or not speaking with the media. How does that hurt the sport? Do they truly believe that if Ohtani acted like Lebron or, for a baseball example, Fernando Tatis Jr, that baseball would blow up and be on the front of everyone’s minds? Let’s be real, that wouldn’t help with “marketing the sport” at all. Ohtani already does a ton of ads for both other companies and MLB, and he sells a boat load of merch for his team doing it. Sports media makes a big deal about wanting him to give them interviews more often. How much does a short interview of a sweaty, tired Ohtani after a game change anyone’s perception of baseball? Did Judge make more money from endorsements or make the Yankees sell any more tickets last year because of his post-game interviews after another embarrassing loss? The only thing Ohtani “hurts” by being a more private person is sports media’s ability to write and release an article or TV segment everyone will forget about in a week.

I hope the dodgers giving 600 million they're going to be done for a while
@berto82328 ай бұрын
Dodgers only have two long term contracts. Mookie and Friedman. Assuming Ohtani gets the $600M/12 years, that’s $50M per year. Easily doable for the Dodgers as they’re at $132M in salaries for 2024. Also, Ohtani is projected to bring $25M/year in revenue to the Angels (they haven’t disclosed that so that’s just some conservative estimates). If that is close, that means Ohtani is really a $25M/year player.

The Padres are going to sign Shohei to a $300 million + contract for 5 years
@michaelscepkowski50318 ай бұрын
So the dodgers are going to get 600 million to ohtani and another 300 million to Yosemite and plus what they have on their contract with Betts and everybody else I don't see that that happened
@berto82328 ай бұрын
You need to look at the salaries yearly, that’s what matters for the Luxury Tax. The Dodgers are projected to be at $132M for 2024 ($237M Threshold) even with the Mookie and Friedman contracts. That means they have $105M dollars of additional salaries they can hand out to meet the threshold (they can even go beyond that if they want to like in the past). That will easily cover both Ohtani and Yamamoto.
