I've been following McGregor's career since 2013 and he's said multiple times that he's been boxing since he was 13 yrs old. He's even trained with Irish olympic boxers throughout his mma career. And even in MMA you need to be a decent boxer, you can't be a shitty boxer and expect to be successful unless you're a jiu-jitsu wizard or a high level wrestler. So yes he does have boxing experience even though he's never had a pro-boxing fight.
