I would have been shocked if he took the job. The Lakers are just about guaranteed to be one of the worst teams in the NBA in a few years barring incredible luck. He'd be costing himself millions if he took the job because he wouldn't see the entire $70 million, would lose half of what he does get to taxes, and then would be foregoing the guaranteed UConn money because Connecticut will always be a top Big East team. Assuming he doesn't get coaching burnout, that could be a loss of tens of millions of dollars he could have earned by staying put.

Live every day of your life servicing a player that has way too much power and influence compared to his current performance. Possibly being forced to draft that player's son, who is overhyped and has serious red flags, then be blamed if he doesn't turn into a superstar. Am I missing anything? Ty lou is living off the backstabbing he did to David Blatt in 2015.. David Blatt was in the finals and had 2 all stars down and it was a close series. then in 2016 they were on a roll and he got fired. even that ring aint all that. i think Blatt or any semi good coach would have won it that year. that cavs team was absolutely STACKED and had no business being down 1-3 anyhow.

For all of the talking not one person in this video brought up the possibility of Lebron being a factor of him turning down the job. Coaches want control, especially when they are coming into a situation that they are there to "clean ship". With LeBron and clutch sports, calling the shots in LA, dictating who the Lakers are going to draft (Bronny) there's a good possibility money wasn't the only factor in Hurley declining.

People in LeESPN thinks working with LeBron is the best job in the world when it's one of the highest risk-lowest reward jobs to ever exist. Atleast when it comes to guys like Kobe and MJ, all you have to do is strive to be great at your job and those two can live with that even if it doesn't lead to a championship. On the other hand working with LeBron, you're now an automatic scapegoat it doesn't matter how great you are. Even if it is LeBron's fault, you are gonna be scrutinized by his fans and LeMedia but if LeBron wins, all the credits are given to him. You legacy will forever be tarnished and people won't still admit that you had a great job working with LeBron. Examples of that are Eric Spoelstra, Frank Vogel, Mike Brown, Ty Lue and the hundreds of players who played better after leaving a LeBron team.

Can buy them a home cash (in most areas), get them completely out of debt, pay student loans, and a jump start on a nice life. In many cases, it can do all of those things. Sometimes these players/media people forget what it's like to be the little guy who can only dream of ever owning a million dollars, let alone 40 million.
