Even with the casual employees the management usually tells the security or employees when a player, owner, GM, etc, is coming through the gate and we let them in without hesitation. I did security at arenas and stadiums (college/professional) and we were always told when someone important was coming to the gate and we would just let them through politely. Patrick Ewing is arguably the greatest Knick of all-time. He was a beast in the 80's and 90's. Battled Hakeem Olajuwon in the 1994 NBA Finals. Gave the Knicks 15 years of loyalty. His jersey is hanging from the stadium ceiling. He's easily one of the top 10 best centers of all-time. He shouldn't need a pass. He is the embodiment of the New York Knicks.

I work Security and when you know as the Head of Security he or a VIP of that caliber is going to be in the building you go over the scenario and tell your staff if its any problem call you to handle it and whoever the top Boss is that night for the organization you personally greet him or send for him to make sure he is good 👍 also you try to set up something for the future to help your organization because who alive is a Bigger Knicks Alum or Player than him. Dolan should have made sure of this at least from a PR standpoint

But the people who make the big decision's whether its from the Garden or the Head of Security to handle the VIP's and situations like who is in charge? I'm at a smaller venue and we have had situations where Entertainers, Athletes, etc.. Come through and we search everybody but if Obama walks through the door u need people in place . However to your point rules are rules and if a guard stops me that works for me he is doing what he is trained but there is a human element that comes from training also .
