Physicality in Europe is 100% more than NBA , what you meant Windhorst is athletic ability...not physicality. They still play defense in Europe. (grabbing/holding all that) Doncic had a much tougher time scoring in Europe last year than he does now in the NBA
@aleksandarspasic60675 жыл бұрын
That's true. Also, FIBA rules court is shorter and narrower than NBA court, and three point line is shorter for half a meter. Naturally, there is way less space. Whole offense has to work for every basket as there is very few opportunities for iso plays.

As of Hezonja and Bender, they were never proven on a senior level. Hezonja barely played on Barcelona and when he did, he would just wait for a ball behind 3pt line. Bender couldn't even get minute on arguably the worst roster Maccabi Tel Aviv ever assembled. And he was there just because Maccabi's GM and member of coaching staff were Croatians.

Euroleague needs no advertisement. The games are great, competitive, there's less space on the court so you have to work for every basket, every game is meaningful because the season is much shorter and you always need to qualify for the following round/playoffs. Every team plays collectively within a system. American fans don't wanna watch it? That's absolutely fine, the NBA is obviously another level of basketball. They wanna be biased against European players? Well... That's a little bit less fine, also because there has been a huge number of American high pick busts but somehow the existence of some European players who didn't do good in the NBA is always rubbed in our face and used as a reason not to draft and invest on Europeans. Too bad.

Dirk Nowitzki is the ONLY European star to be the carry a championship team (and be a franchise player). Every other European star has been either a role player or a complimentary star to an American superstar (like Pau Gasol to Kobe Byrant). Most European players that have become stars in the past (including the Gasol brothers) don't seem to have the same competitive drive as some of the top tier American superstars. Teams playing in the euroleague dont just have 2 games per week. You also have to consider that every team also plays games for their country's national cup AND national championships- meaning that they are playing in 3 different leagues simultaneously during one season. Obviously the level of difficulty is not that high in the national cup and national championships (as in the euroleague the best teams in europe compete, but in a national level only the best teams of a country compete), but the teams still have to play more than just 2 games per week. Also, if they make the playoffs in both the euroleague and their national championships (or the knockout games in the national cup) theyll have to play double playoff games than an nba team...

The Mavs were targeting Wendell Carter Jr, Mo Bamba, or maybe an outside prospect like Mikal Bridges or another big at 5. They were hoping Jaren Jackson Jr would fall to them, because he up until draft night had said he would not sign with Memphis & Mavs were hoping Memphis would pass on JJJ. That didn't happen and ATL's asking price for the #3 pick finally fell at the last second and the Mavs swooped in and took Luka, who I have to imagine was top on their board.

Luka is by far the most complete player outside of LBJ, his fundamentals are raw he can shoot , pass, precise and poise and he's only 19! His potential is massive and his talent undeniable.
@TheAnswer_135 жыл бұрын
That's an overexaggeration don't you think? There are players in the league far more complete than Doncic. More athletic and better in the defensive end too. I don't know how much more he can improve. I think he's close to his ceiling.
@donidixem41635 жыл бұрын
pankouk1 I never said he's most athletic but he's not in his prime and as far as his improvements, once he bulks up a lil bit and also starts taking a lead role he will live up and over achieve his potential, his resume as a young kid speaks for itself
@fturla5 жыл бұрын
Sadly, for the Atlanta Hawks, the switch to trade Luka Doncic for Trae Young wasn't balanced because you are comparing two players with a wide gap in experience. Doncic has more experience behind him compared to Young. More than a quarter of the regular NBA season is over, and there's no one better for a rookie than Luka. It doesn't matter how well all other rookies perform for the season, Luka has the rookie award wrapped up.

the real question shouldnt be "How will this effect the european draft stocks?" The real question is: Should you, as a highly recruited prospect from America, go to Europe and play in the Euroleague instead of going to Highschool and College. And if they ever extend the College to 2 Years, you definetly should go to Europe, as soon as you are 18, sing a contract, get paid and play for 3 years for a decent European Team and then get drafted into the NBA. Of course I am not talking about the "LaVar Ball" concept in getting your kids in a joke team. I'm talking about going to Spain and play for a decent ACB Team... And if you think that would be impossible... just look at "your" best soccer prospect in Christian Pulisic. He did exactly that and it helped him a lot.

@antho12skater5 жыл бұрын
I just don’t get how anyone didn’t realize he was the best prospect in the draft he was MVP while playing in the second best basketball league in the world and he did it at 19, some of y’all might not know but Porzingis played in that same league for 4 years but even he couldn’t touch that MVP and look at how he turned out, from the moment I heard Doncic was entering the draft I thought he was easily the best in the draft, people sleep on Euro basketball but at the very least I think the Spain league is much better than college basketball, I think give it 5-6 years we’re all gonna look back and think about how stupid the Suns, Hawks and Atlanta were for passing up on him given his previous record in Europe, just like how we look back at the 2009 Draft and wonder how the Timberwolves managed to draft not one but two bang average pg’s before Curry.

man i LOVE Luka but can we please stop this comparison with him and Trae Young?? It's honestly stupid comparing teenagers on "who's ceiling gonna be higher?" Don't be upset at the Hawks for trading him but also be upset at the Suns AND Kings for both passing on him too. Luka should have been the number 1 pick but I think him, Trae, Bagley, JJJ, and Ayton are the future of the league. Just let the young guys play!
@Dixon_Cider4075 жыл бұрын
They talk as if Trae Young has been trash. He’s playing for the terrible Atlanta Hawks and has still shown much promise averaging 16 and 8 There’s nothing wrong with saying 2 teams involved in a trade both received fair compensation smh Hate the idea of one team MUST win in a trade. Luka and Trae BOTH should have great careers. Stop the nonsense
@carlito_1485 жыл бұрын
Dixon Cider I think trae may have a decent career , however I truly believe atl botched this 1..

Dixon Cider he’s been good, Doncic is on another level.
@srikargarapati73535 жыл бұрын
Dixon Cider what sets them apart is efficiency in my opinion. Trae Young was known as a deadeye 3 point shooter, but is shooting below 30% (Luka is in the 30’s), Trae young shoots in like mid 30% clip (Luka is 45%). As far as overall ability they are around the same it’s just that Luka will get more rebounds Bc he is taller and bigger, and Young has better handles and secures the ball better than Luka.
@Dixon_Cider4075 жыл бұрын
akumasdeception in what way?
@akumasdeception5 жыл бұрын
Dixon Cider Doncic is a better shooter, passer, and defender. His basketball iq is off the charts. Not to mention he’s just a much more efficient player than Trae. It’s not close imo.
