I’ll never forget that day. I was doing well in school. I was making new friends. My math teacher felt sick and took the day off out of precaution for us. My dad and I went to the driving range to spend some time together since we’d both been so busy. I didn’t look at my phone for hours. Then when we got ready to get in the car, NBA shut down, Rudy Gobert and Tom Hanks had it, classes cancelled. It all happened so fast.

It was madness. Everyone that came in was confused all day long. I told them all it was fake and to remember that day so a couple years later they would remember I was right. I was at a packed bar in San Francisco (Nickie’s in Lower Haight). Dropped in after work as I usually did to watch basketball and grab a bite to eat. OKC is my hometown team. The Kings-Pelicans game was cancelled or postponed or something and it was very much this weird feeling that something was wrong. Then this game became weird, and then they just called it. Everybody in the bar started talking about the virus and speculating, and it got kind of scary. I stayed and finished my drink, and went home that night. And then the world stopped.

I remember reading about this while at the Brewers and Dodgers spring training game. They played up until about the 7th inning and then the game got called for rain. The next morning MLB postponed everything. My wife and I packed everything up and went to Las Vegas for a couple days as we didn’t realize how serious everything was. We spent a few days there and then we started realizing how bad things were getting. Deciding to board our flight back to Wisconsin was probably one of the most stressful moments of our lives. I went back to work for two days after we got back and then everything shut down. Crazy times…

Cole Phillips yea but China and israel already made a vaccine so it’ll be nothing in a month, and people said that about the flu that started in Asia and became a pandemic which had a 20% fatality rate, 18% higher than corona, and a 10 on the infectious scale, which corona is a 2. But you see there was no media at the time so the pandemic came through almost undetected even though 10 million died. All I’m saying is don’t worry about the corona, most of it is mild, and it’s not as infectious as people say.

I remember this day so vividly, I'm almost strangely nostalgic about it. I had about 2 weeks left in class including finals. If I remember correctly this was a Thursday and our finals was set to take place the week after. I was sitting around in the library, when I saw a tweet that this game was being postponed due to Gobert getting Covid. Then we were just sitting, waiting for anything announcements the school might have. While other schools have suspended classes on the spot(I remember it initially being only for 3 weeks), our school basically said, "Screw it, you're all taking the exams on Saturday and Sunday." In a way, though we were all upset because of the quick notice and little prep time, I was actually thankful they let us take the exams at all because after that, we were done.. nothing else left to do, our school year was over while others had to wait months to conform to online classes. I guess I remember it fondly because it was the last time I got to go out of my house for a while
