Agreed but theres no reason not to be. It was a mutual beneficial partnership. As a ND fan I'm thankful for the years and the work that Brian Kelly put in, but also Notre Dame was very good to him and his career. The people that call him classless dont understand recruiting and how these schools wont wait for these decisions. He did to Cincy the same he did to us. It's a fair ball game

I’m a lifelong, die hard ND fan. He’s not classless, he’s a good coach. He did great things for ND and he’s left ND in a lot better place than ND was before he got there. I don’t blame him for leaving at all. He’s getting paid, period. I just think he coulda handled it a little better. A four minute meeting w the ND players? Really?

It was the timing. He left less than a week before ND knew their playoff fate. Had it been a week later and ND was out and then he moved on, I'm sure us fans would still be pissed, but it would be something where we can at least respect Kelly's decision to move on. He did a lot to improve the program, even after the disastrous 2016 season and all the progress he made in the following 5 seasons. But leaving right before the team could potentially make the CFP is just a bad look. But hopefully, ND has a guy now that can take them to that next level in Marcus Freeman.

@@billielugli7952 exactly! Go Irish! It’s not Coach Kelly’s fault with the timing of everything. That’s the way the system works unfortunately. I wish there was some sort of design that allows these coaches to finish coaching these kids in the current season before they start getting these opportunities to take advantage of. Coach Kelly spent 12 years with us and really built the program into an elite top 5 program in the country, which is a massive jump from when he took over. I have nothing but praise for him, as a diehard fan and the grandson of a Notre Dame graduate that’s turning 96 on Tuesday! It was tough to hear he was leaving, but him and I are both excited about Freeman and the future! I am pretty upset about how we didn’t get that Georgia win we needed to get into the playoff, but it is what it is. Looks like a Fiesta, Rose or Sugar Bowl big time game that can hopefully help elevate the program and give valuable experience to the guys coming back. I love what Jack Coan did for us this year, considering the circumstances, but I definitely want to see Buchner get most of the work in that big bowl game! LSU has gone to 4 national championships with 3 different coaches the last 18 years. For 3 of those appearances, the head coach was Les Miles / Coach O. Brian Kelly has won 10+ games at Notre Dame for 5 straight years and he’s led them to 2 playoff appearances and a BCS title game appearance. ND fan here, and wish him the best. I don't hold any ill will and understand that this is how this business works. He's a solid coach and a real CEO personality (all the good and bad that entails). He was always trying to beat the big dogs at their own game, and in that regards I think he's correct in stating Notre Dame's limitations from his perspective. I also believe that he never really truly "got" ND or at least knew how to truly convey the message to young people. Marcus Freeman does, and I think that could be the real difference to get ND over the hump. He seems like the kinda guy that isn't trying to beat the big dogs at their own game and instead knows how to truly sell and convey the message to young top talent about why ND is truly the most unique opportunity for them. I have now clue if Freeman could have been a program builder and luckily we don't have to find out. Now he just needs to be a program elevator. I'm thankful for what Kelly's done rebuilding our program, and I think he will do very well at LSU. Can't wait for some incredible showdowns in the future!

When should he leave? How about when the entire coaching staff and all of the players are emotionally ready? Would that be okay? They can't stand the fact that someone left Notre Dame for another school. Not only another school, but a school in the SEC. Historically speaking, they would view that as 'beneath them'. Maybe Notre Dame is realizes what everyone else has known for decades. It's not 1945, and they are no longer at the top of the college football world.

I would respect Kelly much more if he just acknowledged that the $$$ is the main factor. I mean.... LSU fans - if you're being honest, let's assume Kelly was making 7 million a year for ND. If LSU offered him 6.5 million a year, do you think he was going to leave? If you're being honest, no, he wasn't. For 95 million AT LEAST for the next 10 years, most of it guaranteed, lots extra incentives to make it worth WAY more, of course he was going to leave. Heck, if any power 5 team offered him an extra 3, 4, 5 million per year for the next 10 years lol... he's gone. And I can't blame anyone for that.

If as he says ND just has to be "the best team that day," he's saying an ND National Championship is possible. A rational coach would stay on the job therefore until there's no chance of reaching the playoffs. What Kelly is *not* telling you is that he saw the denial of a pay increase earlier this year as a show of disrespect to him. (Don't kid yourself, he knows how much cash MSU coughed up for Mel Tucker.) That's very likely when he sent his agent into high gear. Not many begrudge his desire to move on, but his handling of the transition was textbook on how NOT to. He is never truly sorry for any error on his part. His current ND players win 11 games and he gives them less than 4 minutes of his valuable time to say adios. Unreal.

My 3 questions for Brian Kelly: 1. Jack Swarbrick has told the media he had sensed earlier this season you would likely be leaving Notre Dame. Was there any reason in particular that you decided not to confide in him, once you decided you would not be back? 2. Did your decision not to ask Notre Dame if they would be willing to match the LSU offer have anything to do with a pay raise you were denied earlier this year? Did you perceive that denial to be a form of disrespect? 3. Was there any consideration on your part to wait until the 4 final playoff teams were set *before* ending your ND tenure?

LSU lost 14 top players this year due to injuries, the SEC West is the toughest division in all of college football. Look at the majority of National Championships won in the last 10 years and the highest number of NFL talent in conferences. Saban has won at Bama with a bunch of Louisiana players, last years Heisman Trophy winner was from a town real close to Baton Rouge, LA. This year some previous winners are talking about how good the middle linebacker is, a strong possibility for the Heisman Trophy and he is from Louisiana also. If Kelly can stop the outflow and sign the major talent in the state he will win National Championships. LSU held Bama to 6 yards rushing this year with a lot of 3rd string players, they were one play away from winning the game. Four of the top players at Bama are from Louisiana.
