Don’t ever sell a service academy’s option attack short, especially when you don’t ever see it. Much better prepared teams like ND have a hard time with it, and they see it every year.

This offense gives everyone fits but when you got better talent in there than usual with guys like Michel, larrier, and eldridge they are definitely a top 25 team. Also air force has had a great defense.

It’s the only way the service academies can compete at the FBS level. They don’t get 5 and 4 star recruits. Even 3 star players are rare. So you run the triple option which is not reliant on having the biggest, strongest, or fastest players. All you need is some athletic ability and discipline to run the offense to perfection.

I love the triple option offense. I’ve coached it for years the best part is watching defensive coordinators go nuts because how they prepared is just not working how they thought. When you get the defense fighting with each other than you got em. It’s so great to use underdog players and beat a good team.

Great coaching and execution by AF today! Congrats to JMU, a 10+ win season is always a great achievement, as well as getting a bowl game. I hope some of those followers who were posting on here after the UConn game, will learn a little today on why big D1 programs were ranked & continued to be ranked ahead of a much smaller school who just does not have the depth nor strength of schedule to compete with them.

AF still using Fisher DeBerry option offense like 30 years ago

That offense is from Ken Hatfield. He believed if AF could run the ball for 35 minutes or more, score a touchdown per quarter, you simply win games. You're not going to get 4 and 5 star players and teams simply have better athletes. But this scheme requires discipline and complete team execution at the line and on the outside. Players need to be in top shape as well to compete with bigger schools. In the last 4 decades, it's proven to be a great formula for AF, NAVY AND ARMY.
