with all the praise and raving over Pep being the best coach, and City being the best team, can someone explain to me why FOR SO LONG the media will still give him the excuse that Rodri is injured and let him off the hook for it. isn't he good enough to adapt? aren't his players good enough to know how to defend without Rodri in the team?

Liverpool's win rate is 5% higher without Salah than with him. Madrid had an approximately similar win rate with and without Ronaldo. Barcas win rate is much higher when Messi was not playing. Brighton keep losing stars upon stars but are fine. Spurs survived without Kane. The list goes on. People must stop blaming missing players and injuries for poor results.
@fireproximity42252 сағат бұрын
Agreed, Rodri is an amazing player but it is becoming a lazy argument that his injury is the sole reason for their woes. Just like the Sporting game, this was a case of City not taking their chances and allowing their opposition to capitalize on theirs. In the same way their control and possession is praised for its effectiveness, their lack of sharpness on the counter has to point back to Pep.

"Stay humble" banter aside, Haaland is the very least of City’s problems. City are getting torn apart in transition with Rodri out and their attacking patterns of play have become far too predictable. The likes of Silva, Grealish, Savinho, and Walker offer no width and nearly always predictably cut the ball back recycling possession and virtually never provide first time service to Haaland. Doku’s injury absence has taken away City’s only real 1v1 winger who creates width and stretches back lines by getting to the end line. And De Bruyne’s injury absence has taken away the only City player who is actually willing to play high risk aggressive passes that not only feed Haaland first time service but once against stretches opposition back lines.

I know things can reverse at any given moment and I'm prepared to take back my words but it's finally right to say I told you so after 5 losses in a row for City. I made the exact argument that it would get difficult for City quickly as soon as the Rodri injury came out and that City were one injury or Haaland losing form away from it being a disaster for them in terms of their title defence. I also mentioned that Debruyne and Rodri are world class players for a reason and that they can't be replaced easily. No amount of Peps genius abilities can ever change that.

I just don't understand why City didn't go in for another defensive midfielder in the summer, yes Rodri is out and so is Kovacic who can do a a job as a sitter, but then EVERY other midfielder in your roster is a ball player and you have ZERO physical tacklers to bring in to protect your back line?? I must admit I love seeing City lose to anyone, but as they said nobody will have any sympathy for them missing a couple players after they fixed their books to assemble an illegal super-team, it's just surprising that they would allow having 1 player with a long term injury result in their billion dollar squad crumbling 😄😂🤣
