You list dribbling, stats measures that. It also measure "needle eye pass", "play making" Believe it or not, stats also measure IQ as well. At least one person on the voting committee later admitted that he and those on the committee were told/forced to vote for Messi. Why? The only thing that can stop Lamine Yamal from winning Balon dor in the future is if he have a career ending injury, apart from that nothing else. At the age of 17 he’s far way more creative than any other wingers, his dribbling, decision making, passing, all world class already. In my opinion, going forward outside of Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe (depending on his form for Real Madrid), if he keeps playing the way he’s playing and develops at a steady rate since it’s been fast so far, going forward, Lamine Yamal has a chance to be one of the frontrunners for the Ballon Dor since the award is so open nowadays. I amazed with how far he’s come in football at such a young age in a sense that he was bathed by Lionel Messi when he was a baby, made his debut for Barcelona at the age of 15, had an excellent breakout season there where he broke a ton of records with every goal he scored and appearance he made and had 17 G/A (7 goals and 10 assists in all competitions) and was arguably their best player and on top of that, he came into his own for Spain at the EUROs as on the biggest stage in his first ever major tournament while also doing his homework, he had a goal and 4 assists in 7 games getting a goal or an assist in every knockout stage game until the final helping them become European champions and could’ve easily have been player of the tournament especially since other players who were in their prime weren’t able to translate their club form with the national team. The most difficult thing when it comes to young players is finding a level of consistency, yet Yamal is built different as at the start of the season he has scored or assisted (1 goal and 4 assists) in all 4 of Barcelona’s games in La Liga and he has gotten a goal or an assist in almost every game in the last 2 months for club and country and as we speak, at the age of 17, he’s already been nominated for the Ballon Dor and while finishing top 10 could be seen as too high for him since a lot of players had excellent performances throughout the season and he also didn’t win any trophies as well and it’s difficult to tell if he would’ve been on the list without the EUROs, but the final rankings for this award is impacted by a combination of PR and recency bias with people talking recent events into consideration so don’t be surprised if he’s even top 5 with the way he’s playing right now. Watch people start to put him in these “best player in the world” conversations since realistically speaking ever since Messi and Ronaldo left Europe, it seems like every couple of months, someone is the best player in the world and we love to overhype players. As I said before, going forward, Yamal is a Ballon Dor contender because he’s just that good for his age the way he’s playing, you would think that he’s already world class yet he’s still a teenager and on current form, he’s the best pure winger in the world in terms of his creativity chance creation ability to hold the ball what he does in 1v1 situations close control and technique.

Once he starts scoring goals at a consistent rate, while also creating chances at the highest level, in the coming years depending on how he develops, it bodes well for his Ballon Dor chances and it’ll help If he continues performing well individually wins trophies for Barcelona and has international success with Spain since he has chances to win the EUROs again and the World Cup as he’ll be around for a long time. Guys like Haaland and Mbappe are going into their prime, yes Haaland has never played in a major tournament for Norway, but at club level, he’s scoring goals and breaking records left right and center and he has a chance to win this award almost every year as long as he’s at Manchester City and they continue to be a contender in multiple competitions and if he starts leading his national team in major tournaments, Mbappe has better chances of winning this award following his move to Real Madrid as he’s on a team where he should be able to win the champions league there and while he’s started off slow in terms of goals and overall performances, he’s going to find his form and put up numbers and he should win a Ballon Dor there, it’s not going to be as easy as we think it is since he’s playing on the same team as guys like Vinicius Junior Jude Bellingham Rodrygo (not nominated this year) and Federico Valverde. Someone like Yamal for example or any other player who could potentially win a Ballon Dor keep in mind that they’re competing against players that are playing on the same team and the only thing stopping him from realizing his potential is injuries because he has an unlimited ceiling and I just wonder how good he’ll be when he’s in his prime.
