But that's club football. The whole idea of national team competition is that you can only draw from the pool of talent from within your own country. And the manager is such an essential part to a team's success, especially nowadays, that to hire a foreign manager to give you success is like signing foreign players for your national team. It's basically cheating and should be disallowed. And for a great footballing nation like England to consider doing this, after already having done it in the past, is frankly embarrassing. If you don't have great managers in your country, you can't win the world cup, tough luck. Just like when you don't have a great striker or a great defense.

But if those were the rules it would put many smaller nations who predominantly have foreign managers at a huge disadvantage. But again maybe your opinion on that is just "tough luck" too. But given this is the situation, and its also embarrassing we haven't won a major tournament in 60 years, I will take any win with any coach. Counterpoint to Frank and Ale : The top 6 clubs in the top league in England are all managed by non-British/non-English managers. It's not until you get to Newcastle with Eddie Howe that you get a British man, and I don't think England fans would be jumping for joy if he were appointed the next England manager. Poch is a great choice for USMNT because who are the good American options? His point about coaches from one country coaching another country applies to “big” football nations…a French coach coaching Saudia Arabia or Georgia is not the same as a French coach coaching a big footballing nation like Spain or Germany (which is a moot point, as those countries develop good coaches). The problem in England is they lack good coaches.

It's not beneath England to appoint a foreign coach. They've done it twice before and whilst they weren't successful it wasn't because they were foreign either (although it wouldve been better if Capello knew how to speak English!). England once approached Sir Alex Ferguson for the job and being a Scot, that's probably as controversial as going for a German. And for a few years fans when debating who should be the next manager, Wenger and Mourninho would come up a lot. Maybe appointing a German is a bit too far, I dont know but I think the modern English fan is more tolerant of a foreign coach than ever before.

One of the great things about football is that every nation has a different style, therefore I always thought that the coach by rule should have to be from the nation he’s coaching. When I watch X nation I want to see X nation football style. After all, the coach is probably the one most important person on the team. I understand this will put some nations at a disadvantage, but it also incentivizes nations to develop coaches.

Bayern hesitated and didn‘t follow through. Tuchel brought it up one way or the other over and over again. Well, he could ve went the positive route and highlight the great opportunity for the young guys etc. Tuchels glas is mostly half empty. A coach should always consider what could go wrong in a game, but you also need to know when it s fine and be optimistic. „That could work out great for us“ is not Thomas Tuchel as a coach England fans would hate his guts a their coach

the problem is tuchel is a coach who is extremely stubborn, he isnt mostly wrong about the weaknesses of a club but he opts the wrong way to deal with it. I believe he will have much more flexibility to deal with weaknesses and strength as he can drop and call up his favourite players as he would like. Trust me, he made dier a world class CB at Bayern in a short span of 4 months, he can do that at England as well.

Tuchel is an excellent knockout tournament coach & winner. (He won't have all the issues with the owners in this role if the FA leave him alone). There are no English managers near his class ..
