Nah, it's not that Starbucks coffee is bad. They have plenty of excellent blends, it's because they're a morally bankrupt company.

I saw your comment, I actually completely agree. My wife used to work for them (that's why we have mountains of their beans in our freezer, she was given a pound a week as an employee) but they are so horrible she quit a year ago. They've always (somewhat secretly) supported Planned Parenthood and now the T in LGBTQAIP&... So I've never given them a dime of my money, I'm NOT fan of Starbucks.

I don't know about Starbucks doing that, but I know that the Tyson meat company does so I wouldn't be surprised.

I can't even get past just brewing from the moka pot. Bought it from world market and the instructions say to keep it on low but every video I've seen it's always a medium heat. Anyways the espresso tonic looks quite interesting

Sounds like you need to use less heat. I have a video on how to make a latte with a moka pot, you might find it helpful. Medium or low heat are intrinsically relative terms: relative to your stove. A higher BTU stove needs to be on low whereas a lower BTU stove might need medium or medium high.

In my 7 years of roasting experience, I have found that dark roasted beans hide defects and nuances that lighter roasted beans highlight. I find that I can be l can make mistakes with dark roasts that would be profound in a light roast. Less expensive beans are roasted dark for this reason. It kinda sucks that Starbucks may blend lower quality beans and then charge a high price for a cup of coffee. Of course, some drinks can have a good taste, yet a variety of roast levels would be appreciated.

@Homemade Edition Thank you. I checked out your channel. Seems like some cool stuff. I saved a few videos to watch later. I'll be sure to like, comment and sub to help your channel and the KZbin algorithm. I roasted 2 batches of coffee last night. The 1st was absolutely beautiful, the 2nd I kinda got a bit too toasty n came out with a darker roast. The carry over heat was way too high and blasted through the development stage. Roasting coffee is so enjoyably but when I mess up, it is rather upsetting.

Lol, I can imagine it being frustrating if it goes poorly. My brother has done a bunch of home roasting over the last year and he loves it. I haven't dipped my toes into it yet but someday I'll give it a try.

For a mix drink I wouldn't waste real espresso because it's just too much work. I guess the bialetti is fine for that. I own the Flair Pro 2 and it makes world class espresso. I'm using a good grinder that is capable of espresso grind sizes. I prefer medium to dark roasts. Don't know about starbucks, as I'm buying from my local roaster, but I think nothing of all the pseudo intellectuals who want to teach everyone espresso.

Mixed bag of thoughts here but one I will respond to is that real espresso is not worth the effort for a mixed drink. Subjectively, you are right because you're speaking to your experience and view of flavor value for time investment. I find it to be worth the time, especially compared to the moka pot. But I think that's because I've pulled so many shots with the FP2 that it doesn't feel like effort. Part of that is because I enjoy the process but part of that is having a very consistent and streamlined work flow. At this point, I'm not living in an RV (which, I was at the time of shooting this video) and I have a dedicated coffee bar with a bar top drain and cold water faucet. Pre-heating and clean up are easy in that environment and there's no set-up and teardown time because it's in a dedicated space. If I didn't have the space I do, I would tend to agree that it isn't worth the effort at least half the time. But I don't think the Moka Pot is ever worth it because it just doesn't taste right for a direct espresso replacement. Not sure if the pseudo intellectual content was a barb pointed at me. Actually, I'm not sure what exactly you were saying at all. Cheers.

You should stop fire after water go out and fill the mokapot about 1 cm, about 30-90ml, its give strong flavour and no watery

I'm on the opposite side of the preference question, I generally prefer espresso, but I agree that moka is different.

Definitely the flair. If you watch to the end I compare the flavors and the Moka Pot is just nowhere near intense enough.

It's about 4.5 for blond and 5 for dark. I play with the grind and temperature a little bit to get the flow rate right for a good extraction.
