It might be better to say that mathematics is an attribute of consciousness. We might say that math evolves, but actually it is discoveries of what is actually there. Where are the principles of math? They are in the mind of God (by whatever name). If you got to Mars, or the end of the universe, math and principles will be there. They are inherent in consciousness.

Its like the Egg and Chicken problem. Mathematics is the purest expression of consciousness, because its independent of space-time. However, for us to understand mathematics we need space-time, because mathematics needs space-time "to be experienced/discovered". However, I think the Universe is like a gigantic mathematical code/equation with consciousness as the most fundamental basis. (my 2 cents to this topic)

In 2007 I began having spiritual experiences after I learned to meditate. At the time I thought I was going crazy and could not talk about it to anyone. It is such a relief and a joy to hear a great scientist talking about consciousness this way. I had one experience where I became the observer and the observed. For just a few seconds my consciousness expanded far into the cosmos and I could see (not with my eyes, but some other sight), far into the atmosphere, through the clouds . It was as though I glimpsed heaven. It was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. For days after I experienced deep peace ❤

Yes, experience does change us. I was walking with my wife when I began to feel electrical sparks of energy coursing through my body. I kept shaking my arms asking my wife, "What is this electrical energy I'm feeling." Soon I could not walk because the energy was taking over. I fell to the ground and immense energy began pouring into me. I felt as if a giant hose of energy was stuck in my heart and I was expanding like the universe. My wife ran home got the car and took me to the hospital. I was examined by multiple doctors and kept overnight. Tests showed no heart attack. Managing doctor said they had no clue as to what had happened. When I googled my symptoms the one thing that kept popping up was a "heart chakra opening." Not surprising since I had been on a spiritual quest for many years. I previously had experienced ego death and immense love and beauty. Now I say, if you want to have meaning in your life, just love everyone you meet as best you can. That will give you all the meaning you want.

In my minds eye My consciousness is a tree When things are okay, it's a tree in summer When things are great, it's a tree in spring in full bloom, suffused with light, and my minds eye goes from blackness to whiteness Even when I'm asleep When things are bad, the black is deep - and the tree is dead, in the winter. I have had one breakthrough trip where I saw a machine elf. I was in a hallway of mirrors. Each mirror was a memory of mine. Past and future memories. I checked them out. The machine elf was the size of the universe. It was standing in front of, and part of a tree bigger than that I could see through my hallway, to billions upon billions of uncountable billions of hallways all leading to the tree "You're not supposed to be here yet." The machine elf rumbled, and it's voice was like gravity - the sound waves disturbed my atoms like dust motes being blown away by a gale. I instantaneously became whole again, experienced a state of... Apology. That I will continue to... Experience. Then the machine elf ejected me - and decades of climbing that hallway and spying on my future memories became all of 45 seconds in reality.

I am so grateful that Mr. Faggin is stepping forward to open this door. It's high time the scientific establishment get over itself, and admits there is far more to existence and consciousness than can be described with math, and remove the stigma from these areas of research. Having a highly respected physicist willing to point the way makes this a safer thing for others to explore, and that is priceless. The world NEEDS this, right now more than ever. Mr. Faggin, my only wish is that you would consider that consciousness does not have a gender. You refer to it as 'he' - and i understand that's just natural to do, but- especially in these early days of this as a science, could you consider the importance of not limiting The Oneness to a singular polarity? I'm not saying it's she, or even it, but "he" is a subset of All, so cannot be accurate. Just my thought.❤ thank you for what you are doing. You are a hero.

What a profoundly inspired human, this Federico Faggin!! We are blessed to have him. Now let’s give this Theory outlets on which it can get foundational: like proving that Consciousness is not brain emanation (but universal substrate from which life and cosmic creation arise), we also need to prove and show how the brain or cell interface with the consciousness field works? Etc. we need to do that before AI gets monetized on such way as to undermine all human values: freedom, nobility, beauty, creativity, care and love.

It's more than the brain. The whole body is the consciousness entity. The brain is just one organ that processes parts of the consciousness. The powerful expression is in the heart chakra. To connect to the universal field meditate while expressing love and compassion via the heart chakra. Focus this the larger world and universe. Project your compassion. Soon connection will come. With some practice it will become an everyday communication just as speaking and hearing. When you project with your heart chakra with love and compassion you will see smiles appear unsolicited. People detect it subconsciously and respond. You've seen it with some spiritual leaders or caring charismatic people.

Good to hear his explanation. Meditation - of the right kind - reveals all this - it is then 'self-evident'. The way to go is In - not Out in this world we know is unreal.

This is all dead wrong. Just fyi. We are just goop having a fever dream. There is nothing special about it. You can go out and learn quantum mechanics, neurology, chemistry, etc, but that’s hard. It’s much easier to sit and listen to grifters tell you you’re special. Every thought you ever had, every dream, hope, love, and fear can be approximated as a an amoeba following a nutrient gradient. When you die, rides over. Just thought you should know. Have a nice rest of your fever dream.

Really fascinating to see how modern scientific theories have started matching the Vedantic philosophy... "Ekam eva advitīyam" (एकमेव अद्वितीयम्) from the Chandogya Upanishad (6.2.1) - "It is one alone, without a second." "Prajnānam Brahma" (प्रज्ञानं ब्रह्म) - Aitareya Upanishad 3.1.3 (Mahāvākya from Rigveda tradition) - "Consciousness is Brahman" "आनन्दो ब्रह्मेति व्यजानात्" (Ānando Brahmeti Vyajānāt) - Taittirīya Upanishad 2.5.1 - "Brahman is bliss itself."

Oh my god. I love this. It makes me think of how the Upanishads said the ultimate reality cannot be put into words. And it makes sense why he says that you cannot express how you feel in words because quantum information is not the reality. The reality is only something which you can feel but the moment you try to explain the wave function collapses and there is only a little information you can convey and since that's not the whole and not the ultimate reality so you'll fail in expressing it with words. Hence the Upanishads said you can only experience it. My god I'm losing it. This is amazing

I had a major breakthrough tonight having viewed this for the 3rd time. It is humbling to ponder how small our "place" in the universe is, when you "measure" it in terms such as these. It is equally empowering to sense how truly vast our reach is when you liken the quantum field to consciousness. When one begins to examine how our very own consciousness is integral to the entire source of consciousness throughout the universe, it becomes mind boggling. Ty for sharing and expanding my world.

I once had an experience, after meeting and shaking hands with a famous person of great cultural and, to me, spiritual power. It was similar to what some of you are describing. It was a sensation of a launching of myself into the stratosphere. I went home laid down and just watched the energy, a sparkling light, bounce off the ceiling, scattering everywhere. I was bursting with pure joy. I watched it and marveled at it. At one point it seemed to gather together in a swirl and hover just above me, as if regarding me, curious. Who was this being, bouncing off the walls? I was too elated to be afraid. I was young, in my 20’s, and it changed me in some ways, not all good, as I think I thought that this wellspring could only be found in that person or maybe another person. I was no longer happy or satisfied in myself or in my normal life, which was actually quite wonderful. If that makes sense. I was never quite sure how to follow this experience up. Still not sure, but this fascinating conversation, and some of these insightful comments, hold some clues.

Brilliant! He is well-versed in Vedanta-the ultimate knowledge within the Hindu tradition-and has direct experience of the Absolute, a pure, unconditional love without identity or boundaries. His theories and interpretations closely align with the metaphysics found in the non-dual philosophies of Advaita Vedanta and Shaivism. The totality of all that exists and not exists and is even beyond that - Brahman. Holistic - Shiva: the absolute, non-dual consciousness. Dynamic: Shakti - creative power of consciousness; the force behind energy, creation, and all appearances. Atman: The true inner self-the consciousness that each being experiences-which is ultimately identical to Brahman. Who am I? - one wants to know itself -> I am that absolute consciousness - expressed in Sanskrit as Shivoham ("I am Shiva”). Realizing this and coming to know oneself represents a paradigm shift that transforms everything. This insight liberates us from the confines of scientism and materialism.

It has no fairy tales like any other religious text. For that the Hindus have the puranas or even the soaring epics like the Ramayana or the Mahabharata. The Vedas are basically philosophy and don't really talk about God or religion as is generally understood... Simply and extremely broadly put the vedas talk about paths to self realisation through action, meditation, devotion and/or the rigorous pursuit of truth. Advaita Vedanta or non-dualism speaks of experiencing the ultimate truth by 'knowing' oneself. It offers similar mind bending and challenging concepts that Frederico speaks of here... I would highly recommend talks by Swami Sarvapriyananda of the Vedanta Society of New York who makes the subject matter truly interesting and engaging.

Such similarities in exploring the ineffable, whichever means suitable, yet to see and hear Frederico’s portrayal of consciousness totally resonates with TMK’s & Sheldrake’s views. Have you heard that paper about microtubules as potential crystalline quantum-field antennae throughout the body? Reminded me as well of TMK’s notion that the brain is rather a receiver than a seat of consciousness. Heck, the common description of zooming through fractal geometric imagery when tripping could indeed resemble an actual experience related to such crystalline structures. Hoping we hear much, much more from the likes of Mr. Faggin to cease relentless competitiveness and focus on a form collaborative humanity emerging as the challenges we are facing are tremendous.

Faggin is onto something important in terms of viewing us as part of a field of consciousness. The field he describes as part of his Taho experience is observable as scintillating sparkling dynamical and I may add it looks like a rapidly flowing brownian scintillating energy field - analogous to looking at a tarred road from a distant on a very hot day and seeing the emerges what appears to be a flow of energy, however this “conscious” field is at once all encompassing flowing simultaneously from us and flowing to us in all directions.

If I understood correctly: Consciousness is what allows us to know. Computers 'do' without knowing what they're doing. There is no meaning in 'bits.' The meaning can only be quantum; something that exists in QFs. Qualia (the subjective experience with sensory referrals) can be represented by quantum information (QI), but QI cannot represent the meaning ... QI can only represent qualia. Moreover, qualia is the beginning of the inner journey. Qualia are the 'bringers' of meaning. We look for (crave?) meaning. First comes comprehension, and from that comes meaning. Meaning is the essence of comprehension. Meaning is what you get AFTER YOU GOT IT. ...... Simply profound. Thank you, Federico, for sharing what your beautiful heart and soul experienced on the shores of Lake Tahoe, and what your brilliant mind has cobbled together. @@EcoTHEgrey As you know, with any theory or proposal, there has to be at least one given. For me (and for Faggin, Kastrup, Hoffman, ...) the ontological primitive is consciousness. @@Igor-x7z9s I wouldn't agree with that. Faggin's entire framework comes from his mystical experience, which he takes as direct evidence of fundamental consciousness. K on the other hand, consistently rejected mystical experiences as just another product of thought, conditioning, and the self seeking continuity. Faggin also builds a metaphysical framework around consciousness, positing it as the fundamental reality behind everything. K rejected metaphysical speculation entirely. He saw it as another form of psychological escape, a distraction created by thought trying to grasp the unknown. Faggin also suggests that individual consciousness continues beyond physical death and evolves through multiple lifetimes. The authentic wisdom of Kabbalah....says this is exactly our development--the development of "the will to receive pleasure" which gradually evolves to want the pleasure of being like the One that created it. This necessitates us to abandon our need for self-fulfillment and transition into fulfilling all of creation. This is the transformation of our "intention" - a completely different inner world we enter and exist in.

Not just Kabbalah. In fact quite literally every native or indigenous spiritual tradition believed this. Whether you’re of Nordic or Celtic descent like me, other Germanic tribes (Frisians, Anglo-Saxon, Frankish, Galls, etc), any of the multitude of races of Africa, Native American, Mesoamericana, Asian, Slavic, Mongols, Ainu, whatever; all of these traditions shared this belief in one form or another. That to be human is to serve all of nature in its totality, to live a balanced and harmonious life with the earth and its creations, and to achieve a higher state of divine consciousness.

@@0psec_not_good certainly similar. kabbalah is said to be an actual method of correction. without a method implemented correctly with advice of teachers we'll stay stuck in our egos

I'm a lonely thinker, not scientific, and everything this man has said (except the unconditional love) has resonated with things I have discovered by myself, included the informations that I integrated these past decade about quantum physics. There something very brilliant in this mind and I'm not surprise he's italian. He's a great thinker, and I'm gonna add him to my pantheon of people that I can quote to fight the materialists and skeptics who spread bullshit like "emergent" theories and lead us to cold hearted robots.

My sister was planning to cut her yucca palm shorter at certain hight. She kept looking at the plant for some time having thoughts of cutting it at that particular place. After a while the palm started producing branches under that very spot, where she intended to make the cut. The yucca knew and prepared itself for the event.

Dear Federico Faggin, I'm no scientist but your theory on the expansion of the univers is exactly what I thought of while reflecting on nature one day. It's nice to hear that someone has a similar point of view on this subject. Thanks for this fascinating interview!

1:11:30 The "combination problem" is a problem of "classical panpsychism", not of "quantum panpsychism". Very good 👍

John Hagelin is a physicist who was asking/telling, Is Consciousness the Unified Field? That was more than 10 years ago. What is it about these old physicists, are they bonkers or are they the connection between science and spirituality that could transform us into a peaceful and joyful society? Please God increase me in knowledge.

Why should connection between science and spirituality transform one to being joyful? If that's true, why? If that's false, your comment should have no existence?
