the tax free change is not "a little annoying". It's a massive change that would decrease sales figures when it gets implemented. If only 1 of every 3 people visiting Japan uses the tax-free system, that's a million people (based on latest international arrival figures) trying to get their taxes back at the last possible moment every month.
@dummygirl1201 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, this is a good way to curb tourism and decrease sales from tourists 🤦🏻♀️

Good point . It will definitely add an extra step to the whole process

i never used the duty free even when i had the chance to register it with the locations.. might have used it once but not sure anymore.
@harblife Жыл бұрын
It can help save some money especially for big purchases like electronics. But now this new policy might make it hard to justify going through the whole process.

Silly question…..do I need to carry my passport everywhere? Even when going for a jog?
@harblife Жыл бұрын
Not at all. When you're traveling around the city... maybe but I doubt a cop will ask you for it. Just for tax free shops and other stuff like that!

I was totally unaware of those illegal taxis because nobody gave me a flyer when I arrived at Haneda Airport in September. But I guess if the taxi driver tells you that you only have to pay the 4000 Yen the taximeter was showing right when he noticed that his very old GPS system sent him in the wrong direction, that driver is most likely not an illegal one. :)
@harblife Жыл бұрын
hahahah true that! Glad you didn't get burned with an illegal taxi though!

The tax thing is annoying. If everything is done digitally, the answer is in the system. The passport is scanned at the store when the items are purchased and when we leave it’s scanned at customs at the airport. The itinerary and length of stay can be tracked at the lodging. They’re kind of over complicating this than it really needs to be. I saw an ad from Japan Tourism board ‘To visit Japan’ at Times Square on an electronic billboard this afternoon. Didn’t they say they wanted to combat over tourism
@harblife Жыл бұрын
Right while it's the national government encouraging tourism, the local governments are voicing their issues about the over tourism issue. Ultimately, Japan wants/needs tourism as it helps inject money in their stagnant economy. However, they also had plenty of time to figure out a solution to the overtourism issues during the covid shut down -- hard to feel bad for the government at this point honestly.

Yes it is for 18+ now. It is because of the pre show that makes it over 18

God no, I hope Japan doesn’t let Air BnB in. It’s been awful in the states and them owning properties will take years for people to be able to own them again . Don’t let corporations buy residential homes for profit!
@harblife Жыл бұрын
The article states it wouldn't straight up buy their homes, just help encourage the government to fund renovations so they could be used as Airbnbs.
