Richard, I've been following you for ages (15 years +) and I must say that you are one of the few really knowlegeable, thoughtful, tying it all together with quality tuition. On top of it you've managed to stay humble and a down to earth kind of soul. Thanks for another really useful insight on another great one, love Kossof. Keep on. Cheers.

Liked Koss a lot. Saw him live in Paris in the '70s... Unfogettable ! Cheers Richard and thank you for this homage.

Yeh getting that vibrato down is HARD. Its been my main focus for about a year now any time i play and im still crap at it…. For me anywhere near kossoff/Kirwan is pukka. I think natural strength plays a part in it, if your pretty strong youll have an easier time dialling it in. Sadly im naturally tiny wristed and pretty weak 😂

I agree about strength, but I think that at least is something we can work on and improve. What's tougher is, some people just find it a lot harder than others. I spent a lot of time over a 6 months period trying to develop a downward vibrato, and made very little progress. But while it serves little purpose musically, there is some "improvement in the movement" now. 🙂 So that's something to build on - only I don't know how many years I have left. 🙂

Broad brush, I don't think they were any more talented, but maybe there were less barriers for them absorbing "race music" (blues) than in the US? So they were more readily able to throw themselves into it. And then after a while you have a kind of academy of players that people aspire to..... maybe. 🙂

That guitar is ugly AF. “Yo I want a LP but I want it to look tarded”
