@@Nidge. I have had lower and mid back pain for over 10 years (mid/lower back herniated discs) and started over head pressing, squatting, and deadlifting with a coach (for around 7 months). I have improved my pain by around 80% and have a goal of being pain free in the next year. Over a 10 year period, I have tried yoga, kettle bells, body weight training, stretching and nothing has worked. The key to my success, has been to improve my overall strength and strengthen all of the supporting structures that stabilize and the spine. Good luck with your journey!

Many thanks for uploading this trilogy of videos. I seemingly have Thoracic Outlet Syndrome but have been given exercises for Upper Crossed posture to loosen shoulders & thoracic area up first. Query re first exercise: I'm using a yoga band just above the knees to pin my legs together. When breathing out & I start lowering the other arm, I'm encountering tightness / pain down the sides (it standing straight, it would be below the armpit) but it starts from about halfway down the ribs and goes to the top of pelvis. Would tight Lats be causing this? Also, getting slight twinge at top of buttock area but I suspect that's more because my legs are clamped together. Thanks again

Hi I've got pain inbtween my left shoulder blade it's been like this for 20 years. I've seen so many people but never been diagnosed.

When I do the thoracic rotation, I usually make the mistake to force it at the end range. I don’t know I should relax.

Is it ok to do this 3 parts of rehab for thoracic spine if I have cervical herniated discs?? The strongest pain is beetween shoulder blades both sides and neck.

Try squeezing a ball or rolled up towel between your knees or press the ball/towel down between top knee and floor.

On the first exercise on 1 side I can’t even get close to lying My arm to the floor. I have had costochondritis for 7 years and now wondering if this is why???? I have never tried a thoracic stretch like this.

Is it important to have your face follow your arm on that open book stretch and why? I have had some people who did not want to follow their arm with their face.
@physiorehab3 жыл бұрын
Not massively important

You go a little too aggressive in demonstrating that 2nd & 3rd, i have had some real deal thoracic problems and notice a slow and measured, observed movement can help someone estranged from the feeling of movement. Slow and deliberate movements help train each new addition til it becomes functional, sure.. its done in the first but the patience should carry into each so neuromuscular control is defined. Slow and controlled is good, otherwise one risks injuring weakened or overactive muscles and not overcoming the loss of sensation.. anyone with years long restriction who pushes towards strength can vouche for loss of sensation being contributory to weakness, we are trying to develop control and that is established via the nervous system. Many able bodied pt’s seem to miss out on this due to having not suffered in such a way. Slow it down, good exercises though
@grumpyguss3 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I saw that and immediately thought "I'll do those at 1/10th the speed". Slow, deliberate and with good control is important. That way if a sharp pain arises you can stop before you strain something (all too easy when going too hard/fast).

Is this spine rotation on floor safe to do? I have neck herniation and pain between shoulder blades
@physiorehab3 жыл бұрын
Perhaps have a pillow under you head if it causes you any discomfort

I've read that the lumbar spine has little room for rotation and should be more stabile. So If it's important to keep our lumbar spine stabile and not rotate it - how can we make sure that this thoracic movement that you're displaying doesn't include lumbar rotation? It looks like you're also rotating your lumbar along with thoracic area - especially when you're standing.
@physiorehab3 жыл бұрын
The lumbar will still move. I think you are getting confused with the lumbar being stable under LOAD. That’s when it’s important.
