Good advice about trying a bunch of picks. They can make a huge difference in tone and will also impact your technique.

Another great video, thank you Ryan, you have helped me on my bass journey🎶. I was a novice guitar player most of my life, traded a guitar for a bass and now it’s all bass for me. I play with a pick mostly and in fact that landed me a bass spot in a local band, they really liked the attack that a pick can give your sound. We play rock, country and blues and after trying many picks I settled on the Dunlop John Petrucci Jazz III, 1.5 mm, these picks rock! It takes days of playing with one pick to see the slightest wear at the polished tip. Rocking on in my 70’s 😎

Your bassline on “Joyall” is a fantastic example of how a picked bassline can really make the hook for a song

Most of the time I use Dunlop 2.0's. Zero flexibility in the plastic and a tone that can sound almost like fingers if you want it to. And they last forever. I'll switch to something like an .88 for a lot of metal and punk to get a more authentic sound and to reduce wrist fatigue.

I love Dava Grip Tip picks! Both delrin and nylon, depending on the tone I want to get.

Great advice for those who are finger only players. I use a flexible pick and rigid pick to get a variety of tones and attack sounds. Fortunatley I started off playing bass with a pick as I was already using one as a guitar player, so I had these techniques built into my muscle memory. Unfortunately I struggle with fast alternate finger styles.
