Mahalo. Helped tremendously! One suggestion is to remind people about the BC EF. Buddy close ,extra friendly. No half steps. That way if they need to find on their own it helps. It helped me keep track of how they were all connected. Thank you for sharing your talents.

Thank you Matt. That was very interesting though I guess I didn’t understand too much of your lesson. But as you said… I will come back and once in a while this great puzzle (of notes and scales) will show a beautiful picture for sure. 🙏

Great lesson (as usual and as always)! If one has no intention to solo, is there another use for these scales (like embellishing a chord melody)?
@MattDahlberg
@MattDahlberg 2 жыл бұрын
Typically you are going to want to prioritize your melody on the A string, and harmony on the other strings, so it’s a bit less critical than it is for soloing. It can, however, really help with learning the notes of the fretboard and that opens up the opportunity to find new chord voicings to help open up your arrangements. :)

Hi Matt lovely tutorial thank you. I have a question. Why did you go from the G scale to A minor scale? Is there just an A scale? Thank you so much.

(I'm late in finding this so my comment might be old news) So the C Major scale was the only one with open strings. If I start, instead, with D Major, then each of the companion scales, E Dorian, etc just follow the same finger/gap patterns but each a fret higher. Now the scale family is totally moveable (til I run out of frets )😁

The finger gap patterns change a bit between each scale, but you are correct that C is the only one with moveable shapes!

If I understood well the whole lesson - this means I can just play all over the fretboard but making sure I hit only the whole notes, never sharps or flats, am I right?

I am maybe disproportionately excited about the existence of this lesson. 😅 This is such an amazing reference for not only learning these scales (that seem to have names like elves from The Lord of the Rings) but also for learning the notes on the fretboard which is something my brain struggles to do, a lot. Can't wait to try going through this! Not sure if this makes sense, but are these scales able to "link" together? Because if they all share the same notes as the key of C major......................... Could you play all the way up and down the fretboard and these scales would be within that mega C scale? I don't know how to phrase what I'm thinking. 😂😅 Anyway, thanks for this great video!
@MattDahlberg
@MattDahlberg 2 жыл бұрын
You absolutely can do that, yes! They all share the same notes, really the only thing that separates them is the context that is created by where they start and end.

I'm a piano Noobie, and my daughter lent me her Uke. And I've decided to get serious. I'm not musical but am geeking out on theory, so this wasn't overwhelming, but it was revelatory since it was so well explained. Bigly well explained. Like, merci beaucoup. BTW I've just learned of the Rule of the Octave. Have you done a video about Bach and the Ukulele? The Well-Tempered Uke?
