I think I’ve said it before, it I don’t believe that Tennis is a zero-sum game, with only a winner and a loser; the right opponent will challenge you and respect you as well, and together you both can do something amazing. I think that a couple of my greatest matches were losses, and I finished them smiling because of the way the other guy and I raised each other to such high levels of play.

Scott has something that I am only beginning to develop...good arm-lag on his forehand. That's where the effortless power comes from. Hey, Scott, if you never read Andre Agassi's autobiography, OPEN, read the part where Andre hires Brad Gilbert to coach him. Read Gilbert's analysis of Andre's game, and what Andre should do to maximize his abilities.

Great to see Scott back! Loving this match because of the contrast in styles, a hard hitter vs a bringing all back wall. Adam's game is so tough, a lot of patience is needed. Personally I think it is a match up that I would often lose, as I cannot keep up with moon balls and long rallies, so I'm looking forward to see how Scott finds solutions and take them myself on board!

Genius content! Apart from the play itself, hearing their thoughts during changeovers is such a learning opportunity. I think they both said "I've got to do xyz" during the changeover, and then went out and didn't do it in the next game. To their credit, they kept their composure and followed through with their plans on the game after. It's a chance to see mental toughness in action.
@scottbroady31594 жыл бұрын
I love this aspect of it as well. As a participant, it keeps your head in the game. It’s easy to just put your head down and charge, but it bears fruit when you are continually asked to analyze the action. The man who would not go away. Shows how it affects the opponents’ play. Scott no worries. Keep your composure. You can go out on a break. It seems on both sides, hard to consolidate after a break. Thanks for you efforts and Ian, thanks for your display.

Hey all, I have a thought here: just noticing a underlying thread of posts opining that Adam is tenaciously trying to break me down makes me wonder: aren’t I trying to do the same thing to him? We have different approaches, for sure; he is making me hit ball after ball after ball, sometimes uncomfortably so, while I am trying to pound him into submission with heavy aggressive shots. What we have here, and I think it’s genius of @Essential Tennis and @TennisTroll, among others, is an opportunity to recognize this Mortal Kombat aspect of tennis. There’s no single right way to win (but plenty of wrong ways to lose), and what makes it exciting and fun is that we put ourselves (and our fighting styles) on the line to see if we can battle to completion and maybe emerge victorious. Thoughts?
@-Munditimum-4 жыл бұрын
Brilliantly said. Injecting a bit of fun while experiencing the process by good sportsmanship, challenging oneself and giving it the best of ourselves just makes it that much better. After all, we may think that the challenger across the court is the one that we battle with and that he or she may be trying to break us down, but at least in my truth I find that all we experience in this great game is our interpretation of what our adversary does and how we respond to it at any given time. How we deal with our stance, position, shots, and the decisions that we make in that split second are what make us victorious or less successful than expected. This makes what the opponent does not as significant as our own input at any given time.

In the spirit of friendly competition you two friends put it all on the line and you obviously were getting the better of him. Maybe it was the editing, but it looked like Adam was making a comeback toward the end. People who can't play tennis on your stratosphere tend to side with Adam because we relate to him. Who doesn't vote for the underdog? If I had to bet my life on the final result I would have to bet my hand on you, Scott. No matter what happens, when all is said and done and the last ball is rolling toward the sidelines, you two guys are gonna walk toward the net, chins held high, both of you knowing you have won in your own way, no matter whose face did the mopping...

Interesting how Ian tried to up his offense against Mark; how Scott tried to up his offense against Mark; how Mark tried to up his offense against Cole; and now Adam is trying to punch up his offense a little against Scott. It would seem that when the other guy is a little better it does force you to stretch your game a little. I remember Mark really trying to find that line of upping his game against Cole --- at times he was successful, but as Cole kept taking Mark's punches Mark started to make more errors. So far it seems Adam is stretching, but staying within himself pretty well. Second: I kind of like the tennis soap opera Ian has started. difference in depth of analysis between this match & Mark Sansait matches. Mark is much more in know on what is happening on the other side of the court.
