Thank you! I've spent 2 days trying to set up the TP link RE 450 and yours is the fourth video I've watched and just to let you know that your video works perfectly for the 450 too! The info on the TP Link website is crap and the "easy quick setup" chart that comes with the extender is useless. My Netgear router doesn't have a WPS button so I couldn't connect that way. Now that it is set up it's working well. Brilliant!

Thank you. I didn't look at all the video but the tip on the "Tether" app done the trick for me. Not that I didn't want to look at the entire video but Tether had me dancing through hoops to verify, find user name and password. (admin/admin). I had to reset it twice before the settings took but if I didn't take your advice, this extender would have found the trash hip of devices considered unusable. Thanks again.

Sorry for late reply. Red means theres some connectivity issue it might have not connected properly to the router or lost connection. Sometumes it happens if theres a power surge or something like that. Id just unplug it and wait a min or two and try again. Or you can set it up again and hopefully that works

do we have to split our router into 2.4g and 5g networks or can we just connect both the tp-link’s 5/2.4 to the one our router does 2.4 and 5 but it only appears as one

🤔🤔🤔 im not too sure. I think it would show your router on the available list and then it should have the 2.4 and 5gs option as well. For me it would show jev which was my router and then i had jevwii(2.4) and jevwifi5ghz. Im using the deco m4 wifi mesh system so i only see one for wifi but it switches from 2.4 to 5ghz accordingly depending on what the device uses.

I was thinking after set up this device could be used as a hot spot which is different than a range extender. The Netgear range extender I have does the hot spot after being inputted with an ethernet cable from the router but this TP Link range extender doesn't seem to do it unless I'm doing something wrong. I did notice the TP Link router has three modes though, one of which is to be a hot spot, it is a far bigger unit compared to the TP Link ranger extender though. Btw, the Netgear extender is bit smaller than the TP Link range extender but seems better because it has the hot spot mode capability too.

Brother i had the tp extender working fine. It became disconnected. I have reset it before but here is my problem. The device is loaded on to my box and showing as an option and thus will not connect as usual. Any suggestions would be of great help...🙏

Going from Router to the Range Extender is giving me bad handoff issues. My videos would freeze until i turn off and turn off my WiFi back up so it can reconnect to the extender. Is there a way to make the handoff more smooth?

Hmmm could be a couple of things. I have some issues sometime too but usually ill just unplug extender, then router and reconnect both and it works. Also the location of router/extender can have an effect or sometimes i just do ipconfig release and renew and that helps as sometimes theyres ip conflicts. Hope you can get it sorted out! 🙂

Tether is not working for me the same way it is working for you. I tried to follow you step by step but running into a lot of walls. The info that comes up for you is not what I get on my Iphone. I have been trying to get this up for a week and invested a lot of time with no results yet. Right now I have it is not a secure network although I have privacy set up for the router the hardware says open on the extenders. Thanks for any help.

You change it by searching up the IP address in chrome and then you login and it should give you options to change it

I am not 100 percent sure but i believe tou should be able to in AP mode meaning you would have to use lan cable to connect from router to the extender. I have not tried it but that's what I have heard 🙂

I’ve tried setting up the extender the method you provided in the video, using the wps button method , even trying to set it up online through the tplinkrepeater.net website and I still cannot connect to the extender once everything is set up. Would I be better off returning it ?

did you get it figured out? i used this extender for like 2 years and it was pretty good. sometimes it would cut out so id have to reset it but it was pretty reliable most of the time. its up to you, maybe exchange it and see if it works or try another one. i hope you get it fixed! :)

Thanks, What a help, just the information on getting the Tether App, also good for iOS. I think a very good idea to use different name for the extender wi-fi from the main parent wi-fi. I always had an issue when using the same SSID for the extender. Now I know for certain if my wi-fi is using the extender or not.

you dont have to be next to your router, but i would suggest being close to your extender while you set it up. you can move the extender where you think you will get the best signal. my router is in the basement and my extender is on the main floor. hope that helps :P

The extender shows it's not secure. How can I secure the extender so that my network won't be open to public?

When you connect the extender to the router thru the app, you will have to put in the password for your router and that will secure it. If you dont have a password for your router then it wont be secure. I believe that you can change the password as well after in the tether app i believe. Im using a mesh system right now so i cant remember fully lol but i hope you can get it working 🤓
