Kudos for showing these classics! They get lost among the thousands of new releases each year, even though they would deserve some attention. I'd love to hear your thoughts on Calandre by Paco Rabanne one day. Being an aldehyde addict, I want to like White Linen so badly, but everytime I try it there is this harsh vetiver lurking behind all the aldehydic gorgeousness.

I am always so happy to find reviews about classics! Sophia Grojsman is great. I own her Paris which I don't wear often but when I am in the mood for it it is such a blast! She has really got a style of her own. If you don't want to spend too much money, some of her scents have become cheapies and are a steal for the price.( True Love for example by Elizabeth Arden or even Vanderbildt . I know I know.... but I think they are cool ). Edit: now that I receive notifications will I finally make it to be on time for the live reviews????

I am so excited to hear what you have to say about this fragrance. I wore this as a very young lady on my wedding day and on my honeymoon in the Bahamas in 1980. It is the fragrance that started my obsession with fragrance. I believe they have reformulated it but i am just guessing, it smells slightly different to me.

Fantastic! Thanks for your reminder! I definitely need to buy it again! In our house, the family white linens were spread out to dry in the sun on the large lawn behind the house. As a child, slipping into sun-scented linen bedding freshly bathed on hot summer evenings was divinely cooling. This scent embodies authority for me, a dominical clarity, purity and grace. It is prudish, but not the prudishness of a J.S. Bach chorale, more G.F. Handel, playful, light and upbeat.

@@Persolaise Thank you very much! I'm impressed with how the scent can be defined. In my twenties, it was - along with Cabochard by Grès (pure perfume!) and Must de Cartier (Refille!) - my fragrance! Sensational and a mystery! I don't know any man who ever liked this fragrance. Men would have preferred to change the side of the street to not be identified with this aura.... Actually an excellent macho indicator ;-)

I just gifted my mother w/ another bottle of WL for her birthday, a timeless class act!!!! I'm reserving 22 for myself for when I am in the mood for a serious aldehyde lift. On a comment someone made about Americans not showering enough, just absurd (I'll take it up with Ashfaque later 😜). Americans shower too much, a neurotic clinical approach to everything in life. We strive for a squeaky clean exterior, leaving the interior human mostly unattended, aha; but it's all coming to a head, and so it should!! Till we all unearth our heaven on earth, there's perfume to soothe the soul and Persolaise to guide us there! 🙏

Love Sophia Grojsman and a very special place in my heart for White Linen. I was in my early teens when this first came out and I was addicted. It was so unique. I always keep a bottle in my collection. YES No. 22!!! My holy grail fragrance journey started with L'Air du Temp, I then added White Linen, then Paris, then on to Eternity and then finally No. 22. nothing has been able to top No. 22 -it was the graduation of my floral aldehyde love affairs.

I love White Linen. It’s gorgeous. Oh Sophia Grojsman knew how to create a fragrance. I’m wearing Beautiful today, my bottle is from the 90s the vintage formula is phenomenal. I tend to hunt down vintage on majority Estée Lauder fragrances. I don’t like most of the current formulas of any of Estée Lauder scents.

Soapy clean scents usually don't work for me, but White Linen has that knife-edge vetiver and those dry, starched aldehydes that make it so fresh and sunlit it's almost impossible to resist. I don't find it dated at all, either. Perfect for cutting through the summer heat without relying on citruses, which I love but unfortunately can go a bit rank on my skin. I only recently smelled White Linen for the first time (I never noticed it on relatives or acquaintances growing up) and I was shocked at how wearable and downright modern it still is.

WL has had a re-formulation. I wore it when I was younger and loved. I recently ordered a bottle and it’s scent was different. I looked it up and yes…reformulated.

The only White Linen i wore was a flanker, Pure White Linen, hastily purchased from an airport shop (ah, the good times). Such a compliment getter, but people must have smelled something I didn't, because once I got used to it, all I could get was "extremely luxurious fabric softener". Quite appropriate for the name, but not what i'd want in a fragrance.

Why can't I remember the aldehyde in White Linen? I can't imagine that starched molecule was available when that Russian formulated Chanel no.22 , but still (I should listen through before I comment! Ah well, ADD and all that yazz). Will you mention Lutens La Myrrhe? And about Sophia Grojsman, it's really remarkable how recognisable her perfumes are. P.S. America is also responsible for the elevation of the concentration of perfumes. I don't know why. Guess I should study anthropology. P.S.S. My true Lauder scent is J.H.L. I remember putting it on my Christmas wishlist at 15. The s.a. told my mother it was quite inappropriate for a "boy". So I received Halston 1-12 instead. It worked for Andy Warhol, so I guess I can't complain. /Seedie Edgewick

I'm always curious how American Perfumes for women smells from the '70s. I remember someone sent me Drakkar Noir and i can't imagine growing up wearing that stuff lol. It always made me think of American perfumes for ladies that would smell super strong white floral and grandma soap rose perfumes that they wear to church

Love the white linen, beautiful is my favorite I love it as you don’t know what you’re smelling exactly !? Just that it’s rich and lovely …youth dew ohhh my grandma but I knew as a little girl ….it was sensual!!? It’s funny looking back to the late 70s when I was growing up going to grandmas house ha we weren’t rich!! But she always always had an array of fragrances….( I know where I got it from!!) When I hear the young perfume reviewers calling something dated I actually do become irritated!! Is a field of lavender dated? Is the smell of coffee brewing ever old?? No! I don’t even compare fragrance to fashion something made yes perfume is made but it’s based off senses! And senses aren’t dated! lol you either like a fragrance or not?

Stereotypes are so funny. I am american, but I am definitely not stereotypical LOL. But, yes, americans shower quite frequently a : ) Its like saying Europeans don't brush their teeth, which is so silly. I always liked white linen, but more on someone else, rather than on me. I prefer the richness of YouthDew, though I think I would like the bath oil. Cinnabar is another Este Lauder perfume that was pretty distinct. A friend of my mother used to wear that one.
