Estate Sale Gone Wrong

Today I bring you along with me to 2 different estate sales. One of the sales exceeded my expectations. The other did not. But, in the end I ended up scoring a bunch of vintage clothing, Nintendo Video game memorabilia, and retro toys.

Families realize they have stuff after seeing stuff listed it happens all the time I’ve had set of GameCube games I was waiting for the family came the morning of pulling stuff trash bag full of stuff remind you her kids were grown like 40 years ago so she had no use for any video games lol. Shit happens

@@iSaidStanbackyup, it’s the end of reselling. All cards & video games were the gold mine before Covid, now everyone knows & getting “lucky” is almost impossible. & by next year it’ll be all gone. IMO those were the main gold mines to reselling, now they’re gone, it’s basically over. Unless u just doing it for complete fun

I had the same thing happen to me too once. I drove 2 hours to this auction to by this wooden duck that was really valuable. Once I got there, the auctioneer said they pulled the duck because the family wanted it. I mean I understand when people do it, but it is frustrating when they don’t say that in the add or description.

That’s why I don’t like estate sales because they price eBay prices usually and I don’t ever find anything. I like garage sales and thrift stores for this reason.

Love the videos Ben always look forward to em and she was def lying and most likely a pre picker who paid some cash for early access unfortunately it is the name of the game I’ve worked private security for goodwill in New York and I do resell part time because it’s so easy with google lens and you post and wait for a sale, I get first dibs on racks before they’re brought out and in other I have the gym on a small payroll for back access there is still so much out there but also so little due to the amount of competition everyone hunting the same thing and with now technology and also the mom who’s kids went to college is now a new competitor so people gotta do what they gotta do and just gotta tilt ya hat to em

So what happens alot is they'll get tons of messages about certain items before the sale and then alot of times they ask themselves why are so many ppl asking about that, and then it gets pulled and usually put on ebay. Happens in my area all the time and people don't learn they just keep doing the samething over and over thirsting for video games and other collectibles lol. Recent estate sale advertised SNES games and when i saw the FB post picture with the games the sale was still 2 days out and just that picture post had over 100 comments games never made it to the sale they got pulled alot of people were mad i just laugh because i'm just like what do you expect when you generate that much buzz presale and the family always has the option to pull stuff.

like that despite the second estate sell having some crazy prices etc, you stuck to the task and found some good stuff and kept positive about the whole thing, estate sales are just like that, I have def gotten irritated and there is one company in my area I quit going to their sales because everything was just way overpriced.

Great finds! That’s good you found other items at the other sales because that estate sale disappointment. That would of been bad if you came a long distance for just that estate sale & they pulled that crap. Yeah they should of updated the list so people know. I’ve heard that story countless time , it just so happens that all of the best items were gone on every category . They let some come and presale . See my opinion is they reserve every right to sell items when ever , I think they should be up front and take down photos and have people aware that those items are no longer there . Not just have people Waite two hours in line expecting something to be there it’s just common courtesy

Hey Ben..strange question, but when you checked out with that older lady, was that a GIGANTIC pair of jeans hanging on the wall right behind her???!! I ask because I managed a family owned clothing store many years ago, and they brought in a pair of LEE jeans…size 65” waist one day that they had made special for some guy in town. I borrowed them for a big family reunion and they were a huge hit!! Two adults & four kids could fit in them! Everyone got their pictures taken in them. hahaha…!!!!

Always sucks when that happens I went to a packed sale last year way north of Chicago and the prices were absolutely insane They have resellers working for company I made a few fair offers on stuff for the last day but ofcourse the leftovers were bought up by employees or something So I wasted all morning missing out many better sales to get a few undesirable items Oh well

Not always a pre-sale directly. Sometimes they get bombarded with people asking to presale so much they get worried and pull the items everyone was asking about to figure out later. Pre-edit: either way it’s a crummy thing to do.

I agree, somewhere along the line it became taboo to call people out on their malfeasance in front of everyone. It should be done, and the perpetrators should be made to feel people's ire. They are not giving a second thought about how their actions effect you. Never let people mistreat you maliciously.

best lesson here is to just move on when someone does something slimy. it definitely takes some practice. My favorite one recently is someone on fb marketplace tried to up the price after we had worked out when and where to meet because he had 2 people interested. lol

Esp for the prices they were charging...those Dekalb Trucker hats at the very beginning should've been a scoop. I sold one similar recently for a really good profit. Farm Industry, Corn, 'Merica...surprisingly valuable!

That last estate sale definitely had a reseller run through there before any of you guys. I think you know that as well ha ha. Just keep the name of the company memorized then on your busy days when you have a few state sales to go to just prioritize your day and make sure you put them down last because they obviously have a partner who works with them and takes all the good stuff.

Yep they lied 🤥 and let a pre-pick happen and just used the family as an excuse I’ve seen this happen over and over again even to the point we’re the people running the sale pull the stuff and at the end they say it sold for half or didn’t sell at all and make an offer on the items left… I seen this happen at sale a few weeks ago a lady’s estate that had 2 tables full of fine jewelry and watches not talking about costume jewelry which they also had but I got there first in line and all the sudden it was only part of one table and they said family came back through and took things only to find the family and ask and find out they didn’t 😡 then it was said someone came in they knew and bought some stuff prior to sale which was Bullshit also because they had nothing written down about the purchases 😉

My philosophy is once it's in the pictures and they're posted there should be no take backs. That's wasting people's time and false advertising. It's the Willy Wonka Experience equivalent of estate sales. If I ran a company once that contract was signed everything in the house would be sold. I once went to a sale for a local company I frequent. Relative wanted to get a quilt so she gets there at 7:55 for the 8am sale and the estate sale company owner told her she'd have to get in the back of the line and try and get and buy it like everyone else I was like ✊️

Stuff like this is why I don't really like estate sales. I mean, like the ones run by official companies. They always make you wait in long lines, which is very frustrating given how critical time can be on a shopping day. Not to mention that the stuff is always priced at or even over market prices. Plus most of the time, they aren't open to negotiating.

When the family takes games back like that, it's usually for one of two reasons: Either they couldn't bear to part with it for sentimental reasons, or they looked the prices of the games up and figured they'd make more money by selling them online.

I have noticed this trend happening more over the last few years. Items shown in photo’s. You go super early sometimes hours before & wait for nothing. Get inside first & the items are not there. Don’t trust that estate sale company anymore. The family decides what they want & do not want way before the estate sales company gets in there. Better luck next time bro

I also collect not just resell. And that’s a pretty normal price for one CIB. If you want one you can have it delivered to your door by the end of the weekend for that price.

I almost never go to estate sales. The prices are absurd and they do things like this. I tell them if they want ebay prices, sell it on ebay yourself. Plus I tell them that even if I wanted to pay the asking price I would buy it on ebay over them because at least there if it isn't as described you get your money back. In an estate sale, good luck with your refund. When I sell stuff off of ebay's and in person. I generally knock about 30% off the ebay SOLD comps right off the bat. I'm saving that much already in ebay fees, packing supplies, time cleaning, listing, packing, and shipping. So your $100 item is already $70 and depending on the item I will usually go lower. When you want the service of buying from your home and having all that done for you with the option of returning for a refund, yes I will charge the $100 and pocket the same amount for more work. That's the way I look at it with pricing. Yard sales are nowhere near as bad at doing this, but it does happen occasionally and that baffles me even more than estate sale shenanigans.
