I did find out what ink is in this pen and unfortunately it is Montblanc Rebel Red, which is discontinued.

Excellent review! Thank you ! I have the Petrified Forest with a Kirk Spear custom grind and it’s marvelous ! I got the OS Botanical Gardens with the new Techo nib and haven’t tried it yet. It’s pretty maddening, though, to have to tune a custom ground nib. That just shouldn’t be a step we have to take with an upgraded, custom ground nib. I agree that the Journaler nibs are fabulous - I have three. Please keep us posted if you decide to tune the nib.

Thank you for showing that nib! I have been waffling between the journaler and the techo and I now know I'm going to get the journaler.

I have three Oversized Esterbrook Esties (Black, Scarlet and Sunflower) with the Journaler, Scribe and Needlepoint nibs, respectively. I really like them all. The Journaler is easily the best. An Estie is really only worth buying with these special grind nibs, at extra cost of course. But the prices (since last July) for ALL Esterbrook pens have been set at MSRP with none of the usual 20% retailers’ discount. That still sucks a lot. So buying an Estie now with any of the specialty nibs really does make you think and not impulse buy. That said, thanks for this short review of the new Techo nib. I was curious. Now I know. Not quite impressed with it. I’m quite content with the far superior (albeit manifold pricier) nibs like Sailor’s zoom and naginata Togi and also Aurora’s Goccia nibs that offer the varying line widths at different writing angles. And oh, I think Esterbrook is overdoing it by constantly putting out ever new releases of resin color finishes of the Esties. Some of them look to me rather meh, like this Petrified Forest one. I remember the Nouveau Bleu one, particularly, looked like multiple different pens because the color looked wildly different on various video reviews and retailers’ (including Esterbrook’s own) glamor pics on their respective websites.

@@XxXHardcoreshredderxXXxxxxxxxx ..I was curious about but haven’t used the Techo nib yet. This video review of the nib suggests that I probably won’t like it too much and can do without it. Architect nibs generally take a while getting used to for anybody using the nib for the first time. It sure took me a while to fully learn to master and enjoy using the Scribe nib. I have several stubs and italics which I like and use a lot. The Scribe is quite different. And although I don’t use it as often as my stubs and italics, I don’t regret getting the nib fitted to one of my Esties. Since you’re already a little into architect nibs, I reckon you may as well get the Scribe. It’s a fairly forgiving architect nib. Worth having in the collection, even if used occasionally. I own and enjoy both Sailor’s zoom and Aurora’s Goccia nibs. Different line-widths at different writing angles is quite a cool feature to have on a single nib on a particular pen. But then, these nibs aren’t exactly suited for daily writing. More like very fun and versatile nibs for occasional use, in my opinion. And the Goccia nib involves at least a $100 addition to the price of the pen. Not an impulse purchase, surely. But I love the Goccia nib a whole lot. I have two of them. 🙂

@@sajjadhusain4146 thanks! I think I'll pull the trigger on the estie Scribe soon enough. I like the idea of different angles for different types of writing.. hmm but i think id enjoy it really bold. I realize I love broads too. Maybe might get an oblique someday as well. By the way,I've got a question about ink. This ink I recently bought called George Kerr - by Lennon tool bar (taiwanese ink company) it's a beautiful ink color. But something felt off. It wouldn't actually flow through my broad Leonardo officina pen..and after a while wouldn't write at all. (After several hours of not writing, capped properly) soni wentbti expell the ink and really clean it out.. but there was floaty stuff still in the water. Like a flaky residue that took more time to really entirely get rid of. What could that be?

Sajjad, you and I are on the same wavelength. Not just with Jowo nibs, but also when a pen maker releases so many editions.. No doubt the Estie is one beautiful pen though.

Good morning from Spain. I have bought this model, specifically, from Esterbrook with this nib. The pity is that I have been waiting for her for two months. Apparently the nib is in production.😑

I actually got a techo nib Estie as well recently. Same experience, scratchy. I am trying to smooth it out myself, why not, haha.

@@MysteryArts i pray you feel better soon. 🙏 I reached out to another youtube friend and she indicated that she hasn’t experienced any scratchiness. I am going to reach out to the retailer and see if I can exchange the nib and if not will contact Esterbrook directly.
