I know this an old video but wanted to comment what a beautiful collection you have and also say thank you as I learned a lot from you about different vintage nibs and also changing nibs out. I have a number of Esties but I also love my Jrs and feel they are under appreciated by the FP online community.

Thank you! Glad I could help😁 I agree, the Esterbrook pens don’t get enough love. Of all my pens, I reach for these the most.

I only have one Estie right now, the gorgeous Nouveau Bleu, and I see more in my future. It's really lovely. I do have several vintage nibs that I need to play with in the MV converter. Love your video, as always!

I don’t have an Esterbrook yet, but they have a special place in my heart because my mother’s good pen was an Esterbrook when I was growing up. I wasn’t allowed to use it, but I got my own inexpensive fountain pen when I was 11. On another topic, how about doing a video on the pens and inks you sketch with?

I have a sea glass oversized and a bleu in the normal size, both in fine original nibs. I think the sea glass is a bit smoother than my bleu, but they are both favorites that I don’t stay away from for too long. I have small hands and the oversized is surprisingly comfortable. Totally agree about the notebook that came with the bleu. I was disappointed but now use for my sons scratch paper LOL. Would like to see your impressions with the original nibs and why you swap.

Her nib swaps are just ingenious. I love it. Very adventurous and audacious of her to pull off some of the stuff she seems to do. But clearly worth it because they are often so transformative…for the better.

I once wanted to buy the Esterbrook 12-pen case but later decided I didn’t like it that much. On second thoughts, the look of the stitching, for one, didn’t impress me. I agree with your own thoughts on the cases. And like everything from modern Esterbrook, they are overpriced for what they offer. Besides, there were better pen cases around. Not least from Galen, which make some of the best ones I see today. Also, I mainly use glass display cases for my pen storage. I also noticed how the smaller Esterbrook pen cases are actually markedly more expensive than the larger ones, in terms of the price to carrying space ratio. Which isn’t fair or funny really, when you need the 2 or 3 pen cases instead of 6, 12 or more. I have complained in the past about the blatant overpricing of the ‘reborn’ Esterbrook Esties. However, as a lifelong Esterbrook fan, I still gave in and now have four Esties, because they are so very pretty and excellently made. So, while I still think they are priced too high (the MV adapter really ought to be included free), I’m not complaining anymore because I like the Esties so much. Mine are the Ebony w/chrome, Honeycomb, Sunflower and Scarlet. Three oversized and one regular pen. You’re right that the standard size is just perfectly fine. And cheaper and more practical purchase for the typical buyer. I just like oversized pens every now and then. And such attractive color/finish of the Esties just beg for the Oversize look. 🙂 Very comfortable in the hand, too. I use any of my several vintage Esterbrook steel nibs on two of my pens. The other two have the Journaler and the Scribe nibs. I expected better from the Journaler nib. It’s alright and I like it, but the vintage nib it is supposed to be modeled on is a truer, nicer stub than the Journaler. The Scribe is an architect grind and took a while getting used to. And it’s just nice occasionally for a change and some fun. Not for daily cursive writing. I even bought the Esterbrook Bee book holder. I’m very fond of it. I bring it out all the time even when I don’t need it. If you’re going to buy more Esties, I swear you’d love the Sunflower and (especially) the Scarlet a lot. I had earlier passed on the very appealing Seaglass and Nouveau Bleu. Even the limited edition Pink Sands is very tempting. Thanks for this very enjoyable, very well done video. Long comment, I know. But I couldn’t help it on an Estie video. Edit: Thought I’d mention that, if forced to choose just one, the Camden is actually my favorite modern Esterbrook pen. I have the Graphite Black with the Broad Schmidt nib. I love it dearly! I passed on the JR.

@@MysteryArts …Oh yea..Esterbrook are clearly on a roll with the Esties. The recent spate of releases have all been winsome lookers, in my eyes. I’m going to buy another; I’m betting so will you. 🙂

Thanks for sharing this series. Esterbrooks are not very popular here in Asian markets. I see the vintage ones still pop up, not the modern ones. Do these vintage ones difficult to clean?
@MysteryArts
@MysteryArts 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the vintage ones are a little difficult to clean. The lever action just doesn't fully fill or empty so ink is going to get stuck in there. I think when the vintage pens weren't vintage, they only used one ink in each pen so it wasn't an issue. But now, we have way more inks at our disposal and it's more common to change them out more often.

@Dash Snl….I have 10 vintage lever-filling Esterbrook pens, including the classic J series in ALL the six available colors. Not too difficult to clean, only a bit tedious and annoying. But worth it because the pens are so charming and good. 🙂

@@MysteryArts …I must be an oddity and an outlier of sorts on this, i.e. I have dozens of pens and dozens of bottled inks. But I largely use only the same ink over and over again for each of my pens, with a few exceptions. With my vintage pens, not one ever sees a different ink.
