Esterbrook Estie Journaler nib. Do I Like It?

It's a very nice pen but I still think modern Esterbrooks are way overpriced. Here in Mexico my friend is an official Sailor importer and he recently sold me a 1911 L Ringless Magellanic Clouds for around two thirds the price other established sellers ask for the cheapest Estie, that's totally ridiculous!!! Fortunately I have a small collection of vintage Js and 6 different nibs to play with, so, no modern Esterbrooks are in my radar 😅 But I'm truly glad that you enjoy yours 👍

I love my journaller nib. It’s my favourite among my Esterbrooks.

Interesting nib! Stubs seem to have a narrow range of angle and rotation. Other than that, stubs are fun, particularly narrow stubs I can use for everyday writing.

I personally find that the sweet spot on this nib is actually quite forgiving.

@@rygregory The more I use pens, the more tricks I find and the sweet spot seems easier to find on stubs, too. My latest revelation comes from a couple of pens that were notoriously hard starters. It seems if I cartridge converter is fully burped for a complete fill, it vapor locks and doesn't want to write so well. Also, uncapping pens nib down seems to be beneficial. Any motion imparted to the pen while uncapping helps with any surface tension issues. My two hard starters now write first time, every time, without doing anything to the nibs.
