This sneaky, fast and versatile footlock is a great tool to have when dealing with difficult open guards. the bottom player tends to think twice about careless foot placements when you apply or even threaten this lock. Also called the sock lock and other names, this submission is most popularly associated with the Estima brothers who have hit it at very high level of competition.

Depends on the rule set, but I don't believe so in IBJJF.

I always forget which is the cutting arm. The hand faces the same direction as the foot.
