Time to visit the early 90s again and focus on the early trance tracks. Think Jam & Spoon, Moby, Humate, Energy 52 (Cosmic Baby), Drax Ltd, Barbarella (Sven Vath), ...
I'm only using synths and sounds that we're available at the time to create a track I would have done if I was born 10 years earlier and started producing in 91. Starring The Roland Alpha Juno, Korg M1, Korg MS-20, Yamaha TX81Z, Korg Wavestation and more.
Chapters:
0:00 Intro
1:03 Laying down a trance inducing groove
2:22 Warm Alpha Juno Pad
3:28 SH-101 Arpeggio bass
4:17 Expanding the beats
5:59 Wavestation Piano and Vox
6:42 Korg M1 Deep Space Pad
7:47 Korg MS-20 Acid bass
8:28 How to build the track
9:23 The final track

Oh my goodness, trance needs to return to this. I'm getting some real Art of Trance - Mongoose (TekTonik Remix) vibes from this, which is a huge compliment because that's one of my all time favorites. Trance used to be about the journey, this takes it back. Between the classic vibes and your excellent mixing, this is easily better than anything I have heard in the scene for years. I have a theory about music and culture repeating on a 30 year cycle (the 2010s just gave us the 80s, the 80s threw back to the 50s in many ways, etc). We're seeing early 90s electronic music throwbacks happening from many different sectors, but it's like trance wants to skip right to the end of the 90s with stuff like Trance Wax's album. I love the late 90s sound but I would like to see the decade explored again. There was such a mysterious vibe and magic to that era.

@@Estuera You did mention that in the video, and I have heard a few tracks even over the past few years from people like Pig & Dan and even Boris Brejcha. Hi Estuera, i recorded with Friends and R Elmar (Jam El Mar from Jam & Spoon (RIP)) in Germany at Studio Besser in 1993, and we met Dorian Gray DJ Thorsten Fenslau (RIP) who was working on Mr Vain which was later a huge success. The Atari ST and Cubase or Creator are essential for that early 1990's sound :-)

@@SpongeLab Not really as the Atari only sequenced MIDI and didnt affect the overall sound as such.
@SpongeLab
@SpongeLab 3 ай бұрын
@@ImmersionaudioLTD But using creator for instance makes you think about the development and structure of a tune, which in the long run does affect the structure and arrangement, I have found using recent DAWs less restricting and susequently lead me to different decisions. Using Creator to sequence and record onto multitrack tape in 1990 was a very different deal to recent Cubase or Ableton, where I can just move whole sections around using a mouse, whereas back then, it was either editing the tape or rerecording everything. It was worse when doing a live run onto a DAT tape with no option to edit! Even worse with a Kawai Q80 as the sequence

This is definitely reminiscent of 90s trance, not just because of all the lovely period-appropriate synths (and their emulations) that you've used, but because there is an >actual< stereo field and some dynamic range! Who knew a trance track didn't need to be filling up the mid to highs full of saws to the point where it sounds like white noise!
@yustyni5280
@yustyni5280 2 жыл бұрын
Also the lack of sidechaining ties into making that ethereal hypnotic atmosphere, like the track actually 'breathes' and isn't being throttled by the kick, which I think sort of kills this vibe.
