100m SuperYacht Docking in Monaco - Madame Gu

Travelling into Monaco today I noticed on Marine Traffic that Madame Gu, a 99 metre SupertYacht was also heading (at speed) to Monaco. So all of a sudden it became a race to see if I could get there before the yacht so I could film it hopefully docking. And here is that video. Enjoy

They're not. They manually place the anchors because the alternative (placing them from Madame Gu) would not be as easy.

Great video. Loved how the whole proceedure was explained in detail. Learned something new again. About the number of additional lines needed after a certain lenght of the vessel. I like the descriptions/explanations. It would be interesting to see these boats dock in heavy weather (if they do) and how secure they stay at dock during a storm. I know the harbor is protected but there's till a lot of wind.

Wow! Amazing the amount of work necessary to dock a ship. I've been on lots of very large cruise ships, up to 900 footers. As a passenger, I always took docking those behemoths for granted. I guess there is more to it than meets the eye.

Some marinas have fixed lines that stay on the bottom and are attached to the dock with thin lines. So you can pull them off the bottom without a diver.

Notice at 7:10 the linesman “dipped” the line by bringing it through the eye of the other mooring line. By doing this either line can be released first.

I didn't know they dropped the anchor whilst docking. I presume it's to secure the bow without paying for the divers to rig the bow lines to the bed. Edit: just saw them rig those lines anyway. What a pulava! Imagine doing all this in the morning and casting off again that evening. Megayacht, Megapain!

The color said, 'dated' to me, as in out of fashion or old. I didn't bother to find out those details, so, it may have been fabricated and recently launched and thus 'new'. Finish details convey an image and impression. Millions are spent by Design Consultants, every year, looking into trends and upgrades in design, for new production to give new products a current, fresh 'edge'. You see it done in automobiles, garment manufacture, and anything under constant manufacture. As a Graphic Designer, I am merely noting that particular shade of blue looked garish and/or tacky or dated. matte Black, carbon fiber, brushed, vs matte or satin chrome, etc. seems more au currant. Easy comparison is the trend of putting gold (colored) metal fixtures in residential bathrooms. It was a trend for two hot minutes and hereafter looks dated as hell. That said, I don't live that nautical life and offer layman's observations. I very much appreciate watching these types of videos. They are for watching, after all. So, thoughts, opinions and critique are expected, eh? In short answer to Paul Mace question, No, it wasn't just you who didn't like the color. I wouldn't even say it's a matter of like or dislike. If it was a trend and bright semi-primary colors were being seen in all other boats, it would fit in. But having seen many boats finished in midnight blues, shades of grey, black, silver and white, this carnival color looked out of place or 10-15 years old.
