I switched to Linux for all my gaming on the 3rd of July 2024, so nearly 5 weeks as of this comment, and so far it's been brilliant. I'm running a 5800X3D with a 4080 Super on Linux Mint. Cyberpunk 2077, Kingdom Come Deliverance, No Man's Sky were my main time sinks this past month, with a few others thrown in. So far all the games I've wanted to play through Steam have just worked, I made a video for some friends where I just sat and launched 16 games in a row. I also installed Lutris which lets you install and play games from the likes of Ubisoft Connect, GOG and EA etc. Got a bunch of games working like Watch Dogs and WD Legion, Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Valhalla, The Division 2. I'm blown away by the work that has been done by people to enable all these Windows based games to run on Linux. From the original ~20 years of work done on WINE, to Valve's Proton compatibility layer which has went back upstream to benefit anyone running any Linux distro, even to run games that aren't on Steam.

@@bobryan7927 No, you'd be better off buying AMD still. Anything under 500 dollars = AMD territory, ESPECIALLY for linux... because AMD costs LESS and has an average of 30% better performance than Nvidia under that price-tag... Over 500 dollars, and Nvidia starts becoming viable with RTX enabled, but without RTX enabled, AMD is like 5-10% better, or equal to Nvidia, performance-wise. So unless you give a f**k about ray tracing, go AMD, ESPECIALLY if the graphics card budget is below 500 dollars, AMD gives you way more value, and Nvidia's RTX performance is irrelevant at that price-point. AMD is better... And when it comes to driver support, it doesn't get better than amd with linux, lol, 'cus nvidia drivers are cursed AF on linux, i mean they work, they're just not part ofd the linux kernel, which is why they can have bugs and weird interactions with certain games, the same way old and outdated AMD card do, like what is shown in the video. Just buy a 5700 xt or something, it's the modern budget choice for AMD, and it gives you 30% more fps than Nvidia's price-equivalent.

I finally messed around with what Proton was capable of doing back in January and, of 260 games in my Steam library, I can count all of the ones that won't run on one hand. I put together something similar last year. I used an HP Elite Desk SFF with an i7-8700, added a 1TB NVME and brought over the 1TB SATA SSD I was using with my old system. Cooling was an issue emulating PS3, so I picked up an HP workstation cooler that happened to be compatible and added a pair of Noctua 40mm fans in the back for exhaust. Lastly, I grabbed a used RTX A2000 - the fan was pretty loud, but a trip to Ali Express, $20, and 2 weeks took care of that. Total cost was about $550 which is probably more than I should have spent on this setup, but it's working great with Windows 10 and booting in to Big Box (thanks for your tutorials!). With the cooling from the beefier cooler and the exhaust fans, PS3 runs perfect, and I've been able to get a lot of PC gaming out of the way with it too. Your channel was a great inspiration for the build, and I'm looking forward to several years of service out of it.

Boo resolution scale. When working with a $260 PC like this it's totally worth your time to do some GPU bios modding. I have a RX 580 Strix that I got new years ago for $160 and there are programs that allow you to test tighter mem timings (aka strap tweaking). Combine that with a bit higher tdp, a couple MHz core and mem freq bump and custom fan curve. Once dialed in the flashing process is relatively straightforward but I recommend making a bootable blind rescue flash drive just to be safe (esp if card only has single bios). For the cpu and system RAM Ryzen Master is your best friend with these HP Pavilion TG01-2xxx systems using the Erica 8906 mainboard. CPU OC is easy, but RAM OC is a hot mess. Took 4 hours to dial in dual rank ( 2x16gb 4400c17 G.Skill Ripjawz V) at only 3200c16-20-20-28-1T. Terrible timings and clock speeds for ANYTHING other than these HP's. Running 5300G at 4.6 GHz

Does Bazzite function well for integrated graphics both for most recent version of Intel and AMD CPUs? Say up to 1080p, 60 FPS gaming...

I am building one with a r7 1700x+rx 580 8gb and a seagate 1tb m.2 ssd. Would a ethernet cable work? Edit: I got it all setup but I am getting really bad performance. Any idea? It is really bad like 20-25fps on a game I know runs really good on this rig.
