Want to add color to glass that pops? By using this under paint, it will allow a brighter more opaque color on your glass project. The most accessible place to find Etchall is on Amazon. The chalk ink I am using is from Chalk Couture. However, since filming this I have seen a few more similar products on the market. This technique would work well for any glass paint of your liking. I found the glass mugs at my local Dollar Tree. It is my favorite place to pick up glass items to etch.

I would like to do this to globes on a light fixture. Do you recommend etching & painting the inside or outside of the globe? (I am thinking the inside for easier cleaning on the outside). Would the heat from the bulbs affect the paint?
@Betsiemorris
@Betsiemorris 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a really good question! I don’t think the paint will be affected since it sets in heat, but I’m not entirely sure. You might want to check with the manufacture of the paint beforehand.

I already removed my sticker so it's etched, If I gob on the paste and rub it off will it only stay on the etched parts? TIA
@Betsiemorris
@Betsiemorris 3 жыл бұрын
I’m not entirely sure what you mean by paste since I did not use any paste in the video. So I am going to assume that your autocorrect is being naught like mine does from time to time and it is suppose to be paint 🙂. No is the short answer. All that would happen if you rub the paint off is the paint will come off of it. Etchall does not make the surface sticky for the paint. It just makes the color show up more vibrant. If you paint over the entire glass the etched area will show through in the color. It will be opaque and the rest will be a bit transparent. I hope that makes sense.

Hello thank you for great video! Is the paint dishwasher safe? If not could mod podge be used to seal it?
@Betsiemorris
@Betsiemorris 4 жыл бұрын
Great question! It actually is dishwasher safe. You just want to make sure that you allow it to sit on the glass for at least a day or two before popping it in the oven to make it permanent. Otherwise it can flake off. So, just give it a day or two, pop it in the oven and bake it, let it cool completely in the oven and it will be good to go.

Didn't notice if anyone mentioned this... I increase my coverage of the glass way beyond. Just use masking tape and cover that glass all around the vinyl! There's no point risking having a mistake hit that glass for the cost of a little masking tape. When I'm doing a large area, or a full circle, I even cover the bottom and some of the inside so that any etching cream on my gloves doesn't accidentally get transferred there as I move it around.

Oh no! I’m so sorry! There are a couple things to check. First, make sure your screen is smooth with no wrinkles. Second, lay the color on so that you can still see the outline of the image. You don’t want it so thin I that you can’t see what the image is. You should be able to see the image a little through the paint. Third, don’t let it dry! You want to pull the screen print when the paint is still wet. HTH

the etched area is translucent (when it’s not painted) it is not transparent, there’s a difference. clear glass is transparent as light goes through it. etched surfaces let some light through but diffuse some light so it looks cloudy. when all light is blocked from going through it is called opaque. i couldn’t tell if the ink blocked light from passing through the glass but if it does, it’s opaque paint even though it has a shimmer from light bouncing back in many directions.

@Betsiemorris
@Betsiemorris 4 жыл бұрын
That is actually a very good question! The reason why you add etchall first is because it allows your paint to be opaque and not transparent. I don’t know if you’ve ever tried to add color to different shades of substrates before. A white substrate will give you the most vibrant color. That is what the actual does to the glass. Thank you so much for asking that question.🙂

Will this glass be dishwasher safe? All the etching and paint ?
@Betsiemorris
@Betsiemorris 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question. Most claim they are, however I have had some wash of on certain types of glass. I wash them by hand just to be on the safe side. This particular mug still looks good and it has gone through the dishwasher a few times because it’s my daughter’s.

Ah!!! So, I just looked at the flag. I would first etch the entire thing with the flag. Then, I would remove it piece by piece working my way down to the white. For the white, I would just leave it etched with nothing on it. First I would remove where the red goes. Paint that carefully. Than remove where the blue goes paying attention to detail. Like, I would use a fine tip brush. Then I would. Are fully remove the rest. HTH

You really should wear gloves when working with etch all. I had a pinhole in a pair of gloves while rinsing a glass I was working on and it was quit painful for about a week. Even after I washed my hands many times...much better to err on the side of caution.
