As if back in 2004 the competition was that much harder. It's nothing to do with that. It simply comes down to the fact that an indie movie like ESOTSM is allowed to bag awards only in few categories, most notably screenplay and supporting actor/actress.
@davy2096 жыл бұрын
I honestly believed the studio’s didn’t have much faith when it comes to the movies award chances. It was released in March instead of November (the perfect time for award contenders) and the only one really campaigning for the movie was Kate Winslet and her team. It’s amazing the film got that Original Screenplay nomination as well as Best Actress.

Look boy, you seem to be New here, even if he says he doesn't care about the oscars, he does, and he should, because a lot of people care about the oscars. If charlie wins he gets promotion and promotion means more sales at the cinema and awareness of him, and that would be amazing, because then he can make more movies and the way he wants with not so much of a restriction in budget so
@CristianNicolae7 жыл бұрын
+diego Martinez for writers like Charlie promotion is irrelevant. Most of his movies are low budget and big studios don't fight to buy them cause they know his style is not commercial. And his scripts are so good that he would sell them without any promotion.
@kmanet41187 жыл бұрын
You're wrong. He does care about winning, because he doesn't want to loose and winning means more opportunities for him. His films are not low budget at all
@CristianNicolae7 жыл бұрын
+kenneth merced calo Nope. He doesn't. He said numerous times that the Oscars are "phony" and that he doesn't like the Oscars. His latest movie, Anomalisa, had an 8$ millions budget. Coraline, another movie made using stop-motion had a budget of 60$ millions. So yeah, that's pretty much low budget for the same type of film. It doesn't seem like the Oscar gave him the opportunity to produce the movies he wants cause he fought hard to get Anomalisa produced.

@creatorstory99163 жыл бұрын
Are writers THAT undervalued and underappreciated? The screenplay is the most important part of a movie. Without the scripts, directors and producers would have no movies to make, actors would have no roles to play, and audiences would have nothing to see on the screen. Seriously, a "consolation prize"? It's not as if both screenwriting awards are considered to be among the top five awards or something. I have heard that there are fewer stars on the Hollywood walk of Fame than there are for animals. I honestly didn't believe that when I first heard it, but I do now.

Eternal Sunshine has gone down as probably one of the most innovatively written and directed films in history. The emotional components...the absurd components....the awe-inspiring complexity of the screenplay...the playfulness...and even the darker components like re-visiting already erased memories....this film was on a whole new level and the only filmmaker who would go on to transcend it even further is non-other than Charlie Kaufman, himself, with the film *Synecdoche, New York,* which Roger Ebert called one of the best films of the decade. Kaufman is a Genius and it's not easy to get such a name. Eternal Sunshine represented the time when he blended all the experimentations of post-modernism in perfect sync with Hollywood sensibilities about love stories and was still able to be completely truthful and honest through the medium, never resorting to depicting the titillation of sex, romance, or young dashing rich actors to do so. In so doing, he's given a thesis on Love and relationships that actually convey wisdom in our lives, making us realize that even if love is tough, nonsensical, and downright repetitively tumultuous, and even dichotomous both its cathartic and non-cathartic elements, it's still something that needs to be truly experienced.
