When I was young, it was this piece that made me fall in love with the sound of the piano. And I guess it will live in my heart forever. Caliko, I am not sure if you will be reading this, I really look forward to that day we get to play this together!

It takes getting used to 440. I remember there was a period of time when I noticed my old piano was one semitone lower. So all older my songs on KZbin was one semitone lower than original key of songs. And I can only play by ear... If you're used to 442 and you tune it to 440. It will sound a bit off, like less impact. YUS 5 is a super high end upright piano. So I assume Yamaha may have integrated German or European piano making techniques or parts too. Especially since they bought Bosendorfer. German and Europe are more used to 442. Normal ears won't hear the difference. But perfect pitch people... Will feel the difference.
@XiaoTongPiano3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ray for the detailed comment! The new tuning has been bothering me a lot, I guess I am really not a 440 person :/ And you are right, the YUS5s are using German strings.
@RayMak3 жыл бұрын
@@XiaoTongPiano but even if you tune it to 440 now. It takes around 3 tuning plus months to stabilize. And returning it to 442 may not be so good for your strings too. I believe my old piano was around 432 when we imported it from England last time. It was handmade.

@@XiaoTongPiano Ayo at least you tried your hardest and you made sure it would come out as a masterpiece. I respect your artwork and hope you will do more like this in the future. At music class I am trying so hard to ask my teacher to play this at one point lmao. I would even even show this video to him about it.

At 1:50, this part always makes me feel TINGLY, and it’s just a beautiful piece to me, it makes me cry lol.

This is the piece of music that inspired me to buy a cheap-ish but decent keyboard and try to learn how to play the piano. After a lot of effort, I could play the first two minutes. Unfortunately I was too impatient and untalented to stick with it, and now, 15 or so years later, I've forgotten everything I ever learned on the piano. However, I can still remember the joy and satisfaction I felt, even just from playing those two minutes worth of amazing, incredible music.

@XiaoTongPiano3 жыл бұрын
Merci comme toujours, Keltic ! Oui, je suis très habitué à 442 Hz, bien que 2 Hz soit juste très petit, mais je suppose que j'ai besoin de temps pour m'adapter. :)

I saw the title as "2 Piano Collection" and was hoping you were doing a self-collab video again, haha. The harmonies in 4ths at the beginning sound very Hisaishi-like! Very interesting music with lots of contrasts in mood, and very expressive and sincere playing! I'm curious, where do you place your mics? Have you tried opening the the lid of the piano? I agree with Fruit, it would be great to hear your recordings on a grand piano! Hopefully someday 😊😊
@XiaoTongPiano3 жыл бұрын
I didn't realize the title could have double meaning, haha! The original music is basically just the main theme melody on a loop, but this arrangement does make it sound very interesting! The recording setup is a long story.. Almost all of my recordings are actually recorded with the piano lid open! But I am using the only tablet I have to do recording (which is also the one I use for score) With cables, cushion and soundboards everywhere, the setting is too messy so I decided to keep them from the video. And I need to film my playing from both sides using my phone and sync them after :/ I am hoping to upgrade my recording equipment (and piano!) too as it is not very sustainable doing this way. 🥲
@TheMeeksDuo3 жыл бұрын
@@XiaoTongPiano We understand the difficulties of recording, and we keep updating our set-up too! For our overhead shot in the Unravel video, Clare hung one of our phones to the ceiling using hooks and strings! But it was moving around a bit while we were playing, so for our latest recording, she found she could extend a phone selfie stick onto a mic stand, and it works much better!
