I split 50k three ways and just reinvest the dividends. 20k in SCHD, 20k in VYM and 10k in SDIV . Will hold these for 10 years. Every paycheck I dollar cast average in and add a few more of each.

I saw a video that showed there were a few dividend ETFs that had outperformed SCHD over the last five years. Those etfs were LEAD, TDIV, RDVY, VIG, and DGRW. I was wondering if any of these would make for a good battle with SCHD.
@etfguide2 жыл бұрын
Agreed Ronnie. Those ETF tickers look interesting and DGRW along with VIG have been featured in previous ETF Battles. Check out the Season 3 (2022) playlist of ETF Battles that I sent to you. Thanks for being a fan of the show! Ron

Nice battle guys. I bought VYM nearly 12 years ago. I chose it because Vanguard brokerage didn't charge me to buy their ETFs. I've always had my eye on SCHD as a good dividend fund. I don't buy the dividends so much as the companies and the value sector area. I still own VYM. I did buy a couple Schwab ETFs recently, the SCHM and SCHO. Love their low fees and portfolio construction.
@etfguide2 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave, VYM is a solid dividend ETF and for many years it was one of the few solid low cost dividend income fund choices in the ETF market. VYM was launched during the Renaissance era (2006) whereas SCHD was launched during the Baroque era (2011). I may be off by a few centuries, but I'm correct on the fund launch dates. It's sometimes hard to believe just how long VYM has been around. Both Schwab and Vanguard are great firms with many solid ETF choices for both core and non-core holdings. Take care and good to see you again! Ron

Hi ETFguide. Since you asked, how about head-to-head ETF battle in the Diversified Emerging Markets category. Suggested tickers: $VWO $EEM $SPEM $FEMS $DGS $EWX $DEM

Wow Micah! That's a lot of ETF ticker symbols. The max we can do is a quadruple header. So you'll need to get this down to 4 ETF tickers. Thanks for watching ETF Battles and keep us posted! Ron

THanks for the video ! Does the backtesting not taking into account the dividend in its CAGR ? I thought so since it asks whether we will reinvest the dividend. Is the backtesting only about capital appreciation? Thanks!

Hi Jenny, the performance figures on our charts in this episode exclude dividends. Also, they are historical results and NOT backtested. Thanks for watching #ETFBattles ! Ron

I was wondering what you guys thought about an inflation etf battle between RRH and PFIX. Both are fairly new and lesser known, but both have performed well recently.

Ronnie: We've done (1) inflation ETF battle this year but not with the RRH vs. PFIX. I've got you down for this matchup and thanks for watching! Ron P.S. Here's our full Season 3 (2022) playlist, you'll see the other inflation ETF battle we did located there.

@@etfguide Another interesting battle would be a retail etf battle since retail is affected by inflation. You could do a retail etf battle between RTH and XRT. Also, inflation affects leisure and restaurants, so maybe you could do a battle between EATZ and PEJ.
@RonnieM902 жыл бұрын
You could also do a leveraged ETF battle for inflation between TTT and TMV. Both have performed well recently.

How do you reinvest there dividends?
@wread19822 жыл бұрын
Hello sir, I have a question I’m trying to figure out. I’ve read that- “Shareholders own a portion of an ETF, but they don't own the underlying assets in the fund. Even so, investors in an ETF that tracks a stock index may get lump dividend payments, or reinvestments, for the stocks that make up the index.” Why wouldn’t us ETF share holders not own the assets in the ETF we own? How does that work if we own an ETF but not the assets in the etf? Thank you
@etfguide2 жыл бұрын
Hi William, let me try explaining it this way. If you own an S&P 500 ETF, let's say SPY, for example, you are a shareholder of SPY. And your invested capital is linked to the performance of the underlying assets that SPY owns. You might say you're an indirect shareholder of SPY's underlying assets. Why? Because you are NOT a direct shareholder of all 500 companies within the S&P 500 index. That means you don't get 500 stock certificates and you have no voting rights at any of these 500 companies. Best, Ron P.S. For large institutions with a minimum of 50,000 ETF shares, they are able to create and redeem ETF shares in proportionate blocks to the underlying securities in that ETF. Here's more on how this works: www.ssga.com/us/en/intermediary/etfs/resources/education/how-etfs-are-created-and-redeemed

Very good Video! It's a shame, that it's not possible to buy SCHD in Germany. Also the costs for all ETFs are higher here.
@etfguide Жыл бұрын
The U.S. ETF market is the most mature, thus lower costs vs. other global ETF markets like Asia and Europe. We expect the cost of ETF investing - in other non-US parts - to come down and follow the same U.S. trend of lower costs for retail investors. In the meantime, hang in there and keep saving and investing!

I’m going to throw money in SCHD every month. Question. Should I throw 100% into SCHD or go 50/50 with SCHD and SWPPX or SCHD and SCHG? Thoughts everyone?
@etfguide2 жыл бұрын
Hi Josh, I like the SCHD and SCHG combo better because there's minimal overlap between the underlying ETFs. This avoids overdiversification which occurs when you own too much of the same types of assets. In contrast, SWPPX and SCHD have considerably more overlap, so it's not a 1-2 punch that I prefer. Thanks for watching #ETFBattles and don't forget to subscribe! Ron P.S. This is my analysis, not investment advice.
