Thank you for the great content! Can you please share more about the fund domicile tax? Specifically, the 30% withholding dividend tax.. 1. Does that mean if we were to cash out the dividends, we will be subject to 30% tax? 2. If it is accrued/ dividend is reinvested back into the funds, the tax won't be applicable? 3. Does Malaysia has tax treaty with the US and Ireland governments respectively? Appreciate you sharing these valuable insights as always Ziet!
@ZietInvests3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ivan, 1.For Dist etf, you will receive 85% dividend cash whenever cash is distributed, so 15% already withheld automatically. For acc etf, since there is no dividend, the growth will be reflected in the share price, and when you cash out, i believe the broker will withhold the payable amount of capital gain taxes (the 15% portion). So neither of them are better/superior than each other. 2. See 1. 3. No tax treaty with US, i believe malaysia has double taxation agreement with ireland, you can read more on its mechanics

@ZietInvests3 жыл бұрын
Hi Yi Jing! So far I have not dived into sector specific ETF yet, personally am abit reserved with sector specific ETFs because they are very concentrated, and due to the fund structure limitation, they can have max ~10% for each company, which means they are sort of forced to fill in with lots of winners and losers, making their average results underperform broad market ETFs over the long run. Though this does not apply to all ETFs of course, definitely need more research on them!

Hi Rohan, glad you are enjoying the video. The 30% or 15% tax is on dividends paid by a US domiciled company/fund (regardless accumulating or distributing), you will still be taxed, just at a different level. And also, no capital gain tax yes!

Hello Ziet, thank you so much for your excellent videos! Please, I hope you can help me understand this.... I am planning to invest in CSPX, due to heavy tax implications with dividends in my country, but I am not sure why -when comparing it against VOO-, the yearly return of the last year, is about the same in both ETFs, (40.75% Vs. 40.40), but VOO pays quarterly dividends, right? So, shouldn't the yearly return of CSPX be higher? I mean, where does the accumulation really happen? In the ETF price (if so, I would think that a higher price implies a higher yearly return) or in the number of ETFs, (but given the unit price of $446.64, I don't see how we could reach a new ETF unit), please advise, thank you so much and regards from Mexico City. p.s. Another doubt, are the dividends yields considered (included) in the yearly return? Or those dividends are additional gain in the case of distributing ETFs? Thank again.
@ZietInvests3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ezequiel, yes VOO pays quarterly dividend, and I believe the historical performance should have accounted that in the 40.75% already, that said it should be more or less the same as CSPX as accumulation should result in the increase of the ETF share price - the minor difference could be due to tracking different which is normal for an ireland etf with a much smaller fund size. To clarify, cash dividends won't result in additional shares/fractional shares. Let me know if this helps!

Hi Ziet, Thank you for the amazing content! I just have a couple of question: 1) why do different S&P500 ETFs perform differently from one another even though they track the same 500 companies? 2) your opinion about S&P500 Growth ETF (IVW)? Stay safe
@ZietInvests3 жыл бұрын
Hi Khalid, 1) They are all essentially tracking the S&P 500 Index, but they are from different fund houses (iShares, Vanguard, etc.) so the speed of execution of their managers might differ slightly but should be more or less the same. The time and date of accounting may also vary on a day to day basis so understandably there will be some differences. You won't notice much differences between 2 physical replication ETFs, but you might see more difference between a synthetic and physical ETF tracking the same index. 2) If not mistaken it underperforms the normal S&P 500 over the long run but I could be wrong, would need more research and analysis to come up with a better judgment but for now, I don't really have much input on it

Hi Benjamin, depending on where the fund is domiciled in. Usually for US domiciled ETFs, they may appear as 30-day SEC Yield (instead of dividend yield), and for Ireland domiciled ETFs, they usually appear as yield, but if you can't find them, you can find it on their website instead, for example VUSD (distributing ETF): www.vanguardmexico.com/institutional/products/en/detail/etf/9503/equity

Hi there, when choosing between ETF or Stock, the question you should ask yourself is the outcome you are expecting, not the cost of investing. Their upfront cost may differ today, but their outcome can vastly defer, as stock comes with greater reward (with greater risk of course), as opposed to ETFs. So ask yourself whether you can really stick on with the long-term time frame + dollar-cost average as it fits, and Im sure that will help you decide between ETF or stocks, or even mix of them. In terms of return, you can just quickly pop on to Yahoo Finance or Morningstar, or just google them to see their 1Y, 3Y, 5Y, 10Y return, you should have a clear picture of them! Hope this helps!

Hey Ziet, This is an awesome video professional done and meticulously curated. For half cook beginner like me, i have also learned alot more from this. And the timing was perfect before i start to invest into some ETF. I have got some questions and hope you can share your thoughts:- 1) S&P 500 ETFs: For these Etf's there are many versions like in US NYSE we have the - SPY, VOO, IVV while in LSE we have CSPX and VUAA (to name a few).. I think based on your video all are almost the same and we try to go for those that match our own criteria like currency, expense ratio, value of share etc. My question is can we buy more than one version and hope to have better returns (like VOO & VUAA) or just put all your investment budgets into ONE (like all into VUAA) cos the returns are the same? Would like to hear your thoughts 2) Any comments from you on the S&P midcap 400 ETFs? Any potential here too? 3) On average the S&P 500 ETFS have shown great return ranging from 18% - 30% (except 2018) which is good. Does this return means "capital gains" 4) Do you know how long they keep their porfolios or how often they change them? Lastly any ETFs in Malaysia will you recommend. Thanks and good luck

great vid as always Ziet, i have a question, how can i liquidate my acc etfs account especially after investing for 20-30 years (at that time i believe there would be large amount of money), does it only depend on the liquidity of the etf or is there other factors to consider ?
@ZietInvests3 жыл бұрын
Hi Faris, depending on which domiciled ETF you are referring to, for US ETFs you might want to take note of Estate Tax (refer this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHqwYpmZr7aXd6c). For Irish ETFs, not much to worry apart from the withholding tax because Deemed Disposal Rule (41% tax) is only applicable to Irish residents. Liquidity is definitely something to take note of if your trade amount is very big, but I believe the market is well enough to accommodate retail investor's trade value. Usually issues happen when the amount exceed 10s or 100s of millions for institutional funds or high net worth individuals. That said, please also check with your local tax laws incase they impose tax on foreign investment income, that, I cannot answer for you. Hope this helps!

hi Ziet, are all ETFs with the caption "UCITS" all Irish domiciled? planning to buy some outside the usual CSPX and VWRA, to save on that 15% withholding tax for us Malaysians. Edit: after researching and asking on Reddit, found out that some of them are domiciled in Luxemborg or elsewhere in EU. Also found in an article EU all are 15% taxed on dividends. So guess good to invest in any of them as long good? Looking at US bank ETF - EU domiciled as rising interest rates in US makes these ETFs a good pick for this year.

Hi David, nope, UCITS means it is certified by the european regulation (can read on it), Irish funds happen to one of them. As a general thumbrule, it is better to go for ETFs with UCITS. @ZietInvests3 жыл бұрын
Hi Shamil, I don't usually look at Malaysian ETFs, but I took a quick look and spotted a few things that jumped out to me: 1. Total expense ratio is a bit high at 0.70% (0.60% mgmt fee + 0.06% trustee fee + 0.04% index license fee) 2. Top holdings - Amperex and BYD takes up ~12%, both are battery players, looks like this fund is slightly leaning towards EV/renewable energy sector. 3. Trading volume seems a little bit low to me at 6 Mil daily (1 lot is 100 units) so only 60,000 traded daily, not sure how much this means to the bursa market but in US market, this is extremely low (i could be wrong here). Overall this is not something I would personally go for, the exposure distribution is quite scattered and there's no specific focus, I might as well buy other China-ETF listed on US market with around 0.3% expense fee, that would be better in my opinion.

Just login IBKR and search at the top bar "Trading Permission", then apply for leveraged products (need to update your financial info to have longer trading experience and account Net Asset Value)

Reading on CSPX from the fact sheet dealing information, it currently doesn't allow trading in GBP but EUR (SXR8 GY) ? is this true? Will they keep updating the ticker trading currency?
@ZietInvests2 жыл бұрын
Hi, CSPX still trades in USD! Are you looking for the GBP version? (try checking CSP1)

@@ZietInvests ahh..I'm talking about the GBP, I was wondering why the fact sheet doesn't show CSP1 but shows SXR8 instead

@ZietInvests Жыл бұрын
Hi cherry, you got to see its expense ratio and the top holdings ya, imo their expense ratio a little bit too high, might as well just do it with IBKR directly (with S&P 500)

Hi ZIET! Great detailed content as always, I respect the effort you put into it! I have an Inquiry tho: In your knowledge, can you briefly explain how tax on Ireland's domiciled ETFs works? Because the information on the internet is kinda confusing. It seems Ireland does not withhold tax for international investors (just the reduced 15% on dividends, but that is US tax), both in capital gains and dividends. Or the capital gains are taxed depending on the country where you reside at the moment of liquidating your positions? Because in other sites I have seen Ireland has a whopping 41% tax on gains and dividends, but that is just for Irish people residing in Ireland right? I don't know if you know anything about this.
@ZietInvests3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ignacio, thanks and allow me to share my opinion with full disclaimer that I am not a tax advisor and I could be wrong too (so please verify my reply). 1. The 41% you mentioned is Deemed Disposal Rule, applicable to Ireland residents only, Boglehead article mentioned specifically "Ireland applies no taxes of any kind on non-Irish residents who hold Ireland domiciled ETFs. Ireland domiciled ETFs are therefore completely 'tax transparent' to investors, making them preferable to US domiciled ETFs for investors in any country with poor or no US tax treaty coverage, and often acceptable to investors even in countries with good US tax treaty coverage." (www.bogleheads.org/wiki/Nonresident_alien_investors_and_Ireland_domiciled_ETFs#No_Irish_taxes_of_any_kind_for_Ireland_domiciled_ETFs) 2. Distributing ETFs - whenever the ETF distribute dividend say USD 1.00, you will receive 0.85 (85%) instead and 0.15 (15%) is withheld by brokers (i.e. Interactive Brokers) to pay on your behalf. 3. Accumulating ETFs - you won't receive dividends and the growth will reflect in share price. However, when you cash out your capital gains, you will be taxed a "capital gains tax" that is equivalent to the tax payable as if the ETF has distributed dividends, hence why you will see some online articles mentioned about the difference in tax savings between Accumulating and Distributing. From most of the sources I read, Accumulating ETFs have slight advantage over the Distributing ETFs in terms of tax, but I am not sure of how much are they in quantum. Hope this helps!

Hi Monjur, justETF sometimes focuses more on western ETFs, so they might not be the most updated on Asian ETFs, anyways here you go: www.blackrock.com/hk/en/products/315923/ishares-hang-seng-tech-etf

@@ZietInvests thank you. seems management fees is higher than western etf.
@ZietInvests3 жыл бұрын
@@monjurkarim9661 Yeah that is right, that could probably be due to the fact their asset under management is significantly lower, or their fund is still very new, or they are actively managed ETF, hence the higher expense ratio. Most popular western ETFs are passive ETFs so that could probably be the reason why you see most of them are cheaper 😊
