i came into this, as somebody who has never been on your channel before, and who usually avoids tutorial stuff due to rsd, expecting to get half-way through and be like "actually, screw you" or even "wow i feel like an idiot" but i got none of that. instead it was like "hey, you're right. this actually makes sense. i feel like i'm learning something" so like.... good job maybe i can use some of the stuff here to get past my adhd struggles (losing any mental visualisation as soon as i start drawing due to difficulties with focus shifting) and become able to draw poses a bit better. may even try backgrounds for once
@steinistein86115 жыл бұрын
This sounds like a super dumb tip but I have adhd too and had the same problem. For me it helped to stop imagining my motive in my head, "behind my eyes" but on the paper instead. So I just kind of have to trace it, you know what I mean?
@sirknight49815 жыл бұрын
@@steinistein8611 That's kind of interesting dude. So what you're saying is that you mentally project an image of what you want to draw onto the paper and then sort of trace that "projected image"? Very interesting, I have to try that.
@steinistein86115 жыл бұрын
@@sirknight4981 yeah basically. Of course it's not straightforward projecting. But when someone tells you to imagine something it's usually a "close your eyes and think real hard" kind of thing and that created the imagine in my head. People don't talk about it when someone is new in art...Maybe not to discourage them. But after some time, you eventually learn that you have to get the angle right for the work to go anywhere. And I don't feel bad about making mistakes most of the times, it just needs patience, the drawing/photo will always be there and the references are also there for us to go back to.

But he's also still not a jackass about it like some professional (and even professional-level hobby artists) can be. He's just getting straight to the point. Like, yeah, you can do whatever you want, but if you don't try to learn the basics, you probably won't improve. This ONE video did more for me than almost a decade in art classes ever did because it taught me one thing: ovals won't help you long-term. Bizarrely, ovals are STILL something they teach you and it's WEIRD.
@JakeTheLateCreates5 жыл бұрын
There is no wrong way to do art. There IS a wrong way to do professional art, or art you’re paid to do for some one else, and that is any way other than what the client wants. You need need NEED to be able to take criticism from people and be told to do something else if you want to do client work.

I'm not an art student, I mostly just draw as a hobby and for my own enjoyment, but the advice in this video was MASSIVELY helpful. I never used to use references when I drew as a kid--my character designs always looked BAD, and really stiff, awkward, and blocky, and I had no idea why. After watching this video, I used some good references on my very next drawing and saw IMMEDIATE improvement, and, more importantly, I could identify the mistakes I was making. I'm not really able to commit the time to get to a pro level, but this definitely helps me get the most out of the time I do have. Fantastic vid!

@zinc2zinc24 жыл бұрын
What he is trying to say is that ovals are too geometrical to be used for anatomy. The shapes of our muscles are not spheres or ovals, they have this specific dynamic shape that can be created using a combination of this asymmetrical triangle shape thingy. This gives the drawing a less symmetrical-stiff look and more of a dynamic-anatomically-correct look. PS: i know you commented as a joke, but just in case someone wanted to know why. This is the best i can try to explain it, but its better to try it out yourself and see.
@axellis83334 жыл бұрын
@@zinc2zinc2 I honestly don't even think his problem is with shapes, it's with where you're placing the weight in an image. Triangles are inherently geometric, but they have a dominant side. I actually like the video a lot but he's talking in circles a lot (or ovals HAH)
@peteypete10214 жыл бұрын
I'm not an artist or an art student, but it seemed very clear to me that the answer to "why are ovals indecisive?" is "because they don't determine a dominant side/direction".
