from you username I see you feel more Eritrean, the problem with most Eritrean parents is that they teach them hate against Ethiopians which I call it self hate. From my experience most mixed Eritrean and Ethiopian claim Eritrean even when their father is Ethiopian, or they are raised to hate their own Ethiopian families, but to be exact there are few families who allow to meet their Ethiopian families. In Eritrea most people afraid to mention that one of their parent is Ethiopian because they afraid not to get excluded from the community, indirectly Eritreans are very racist against Ethiopians especially Amhara, Tigraian, and Oromos

For example Issayas Aforki is not regarded as Eritrean native by Eritrean natives because his mother and father are Ethiopians orgin from Tigray, the third thing is Ethiopians have a better country and are well educated when compared to Eritreans who don't even know what ATM is in their country. For the most part, Eritreans and Ethiopians accomodate one another cuase their literally the same people. Its politics that renders some to hate one another due to prior wars. But culture or nationality isn't the reason why they wouldn't marry each other it's religion. Orthodox Christianity is the faith of both places and this is primarily what determines the acceptance of marriage. They take religion very seriously, the statistics says so otherwise that Ethiopia and Eritrea have taken 1st place world wide surpassing even Israel when it comes to taking religion very seriously. Their tradition is heavily based on Judaism of the OT and Christianity.

What this girl is saying is not true. The issues between Eritrea and Ethiopia are purely political. There are no issues between the people as citizens except those between pro-government Eritreans and anti-government Eritreans and Tigrayans from northern Ethiopia. It’s all political. Eritreans and Ethiopians marry each other all the time. It’s completely normal.

It’s a very common “mix.” People butt hurt about the politics may not want it to happen but it’s pretty common, back in Ethiopia and in Diaspora. The people can have almost identical cultures. It’s not like a “Christian marrying a Muslim thing.” More like an Irish and a British thing.

She speaks of the strife her mother, an Eritrean, has most probably gone through because she married a colonizer, aka Ethiopian. Eritreans have seen and survived a lot during the war of independence from Ethiopia. Every single Eritrean family lost loved ones in the War not to mention the mass rapes and destructions which took place. Ethiopians on the other hand never witnessed any repercussions from the War bec most of the advances were on Eritrean soil. If the colonizer was a White man, the people would understand the nuance..but bec they r both Africans the world turns their face.

@@Lemlem7682That is propaganda talk and untrue. 1. Axum included All of Eritrea, Djibouti, Tigray and Afar in Ethiopia, and Yemen...not the rest of current-day Ethiopia (more than half of its landmass today). ERITREA ALEAYS HAD ITS INDEPENDENT KINGDOMS and culture and lineages...if anything then it was forced upon you by jealous Amharas and not the other way around. 2. Yes Ethiopia is a colonizer and a cultural and geneological appropriator. It forced an offshoot version of the aboriginal Semetic language, Ge'ez, i.e. Tigrigna/Tigre , called it a different name, i.e. Amharic, and FORCED it not only upon its majority Cushitic, Nilotic, and Omotic populations...but it ethnically cleansed the ABORIGINAL Semetic Habeshas in Eritrea and Tigray, wiped out its customs, literature, liturgical influence, etc. so that it would enforce its hedonistic agendas. No Godly person can ever deny the atrocities the Ethiopians did to the Eritreans. 3. Education in Eritrean society is dependent on the tradition and choice of the person and hia tribe...and that is true to this day. My grandparents had an education way beyond 4th grade...and even had scholarships to study abroad to other sister nations like Italy, Sudan, and Egypt. We had a university from over 100 years ago and various trade schools and colleges...American didn't even have access to that many schools per set populations. What u said was just a dumb Ethiopian Haile Selassie narrative and propaganda. We had newspapers in Arabic, Italian, Tigrigna, and English...who do u think were reading those?? Naturally people who are hagereseb or from rural towns do not even today have the luxuries of urban resources and amenities but even the most remote towns during Italian rule had top of the line hospitals, schools, infrastructures, etc. 4. When the different countries co-ruled Eritrea...it was by the acceptance and permission of the Eritrean people. Eg. w the Italian..we saw the benefit of their investment at the height of the industrial revolution and trade and religiously neutral rule was very welcome. However when Ethiopia was trying to encroach its powers... we wanted none of that and luckily for both of us..we are not one country. At present the Nakfa is stronger than the Birr and our Global Debt is negligeable. Yeah..no thanks. U can keep ur country and all it has to yourself.

Lots of Wollo Oromos lived and settled in Eritrea. There is even a town in Eritrea called "Barentu" which is one of Oromos major clans that have Wallo/Rayya, Hararghe, Arsi/Bale and Karrayyu Oromos. The truth is all HOA ethnic groups are ancestrally related and broke off from each other in certain points of history. Cushitic speaking groups breaking off from each other more recent in history, and Semitic speaking groups breaking off from each other more recent in history. Nothing wrong with wanting to marry within your own culture and faith but we should still remember we are all more similiar than different as Ethiopian/Eritrean people. My best friend is half Eritrean Tigrinya and half Amhara. Funny enough my father and mother get mistaken as Eritrean often by Eritreans and even by other Oromos. But we are full Oromo. As we know Tigray, Tigrinya, Tigre and also Amharas are heavily related to their Cushitic neighbors Agaw, Bilen, Irob, Beja, Saho, Afar and Oromos. Truth is most of us cannot tell each other by ethnic group by appearance only. Language and culture is how we will find out. Diversity is beautiful let us respect and love each other❤

Comparing with religious difference is not correct. More like comparing it between a British and Irish maybe. I wouldn't say Ethiopian vs Eritrean. Ethiopia and Eritrea are a multi nation countries. So the question should be between Eritrean Tigrigna or Christian vs Ethiopian Tigrayans or lesser extent Amhara which we share almost every aspect of our culture. With Amhara it is because of our past political rivalry and national identity. Eritrean identity is very strong and nationalist as is Ethiopian nationalism and Ethiopian nationalism often doesn't want to ackowledge Eritrean sovereignty which greatly annoys us Eritreans. If our Ethiopian brothers are less toxic on this aspect we're fine with that.
