Күн бұрын

We are constantly told that "Diversity is our greatest strength". But where is the evidence? There is none. It's a faith-based mantra. In fact, the scientific, sociological & economic research shows that, far from being a strength, increased ethnic diversity divides societies and weakens social cohesion, trust, civic engagement and levels of happiness (amongst many other negatives). When combined with mass immigration & the failed policy of multiculturalism it leads to super diversity, a phenomenon we now see in our major cities. Super diversity is our greatest dilemma, and one of our greatest weaknesses.
This is a speech by historian & New Culture Forum Senior Fellow Rafe Heydel-Mankoo. It was delivered at our NCF Immigration Conference held in London in October 2023
0:12: 🤔 Rafe questions the notion that diversity is our greatest strength and challenges the lack of evidence or examples supporting this claim.
4:51: 📺 Increased ethnic diversity leads to a decline in social trust, stability, and happiness.
9:39: 💡 Increased diversity leads to social withdrawal and decreased trust in communities.
14:18: 📚 Rafe discusses the difference between limited immigration in the past and mass immigration today, as well as the shift from a multi-racial society to a multicultural society in Britain.
18:35: 🌍 Rafe argues against multiculturalism and the importation of conflicts and prejudices from other countries, advocating for a united United Kingdom.
23:12: 🌍 Britain is portrayed as one of the most tolerant and least racist countries, while racism is prevalent in Asia and Africa.
27:24: 📚 Rafe discusses the importance of founding myths and the creation of new foundation myths.

I'm not sure how historically illiterate someone must be to say that 1920-1960 was a period of stability and peace in the U.S. This was a time when Jim Crow was in full force in America and the Ku Klux Klan became very powerful politically. Lynchings of black Americans were being committed constantly during this time (although lynchings of black Americans today may surpass them) and this was also a time not long before the great depression. Not sure how that era was stable or peaceful. As far as Britain is concerned, it built its immense wealth off of slavery and colonization. It massacred and enslaved people all over the world. The indigenous people of Tasmania were completely eradicated by the British. Anyone unironically arguing that Britain is some bastion of wholesome "western values" is delusional.

I'm an immigrant myself, from the Czech Republic, and I can't agree more. I agree with every single word. Despite I'm not British, I'm trying to integrate and assimilate as much I can. I'm a blood donor, also registered as an organ donor. I'm voting in the local elections (I'm thinking of British citizenship to have a chance to participate in the general elections). When I'm buying something, I'm checking every single item to be sure it's made in the UK to support the British manufacturers and farmers if there is no country of origin, or just "Made in the EU", I'm not buying that item. After my arrival, I also bought a book about etiquette to be sure there are no differences between what I've been taught as a child, but luckily, everything is the same. In fact, if you are a foreigner in a different country, it's you, who must change. You must follow the rules, respect the law, culture, learn different languages, not to force everyone to change or adapt, because of you. If you have respect for other people, your surroundings and your neighbourhood, you're trying to support the country and the community, you can peacefully live everywhere. Because no special British, Czech, or German values exist. Just the old-fashioned trust, patience, respect, humility, kindness, honesty, generosity and hospitality.

@sibanought
@sibanought 11 ай бұрын
@@VioletWaves44Not true. Also needed is shared values around things like freedom of speech, freedom of religious belief or non belief, human rights, gender relations and equality, etc. I don't think that cultural diversity is a bad thing per se, and personally find alot to appreciate in various Asian cultures, but when you introduce people from a culture (and here I'm talking about Islamic culture) that explicitly doesn't tolerate religious freedom, gender equality, freedom of expression, or dissent, and explicitly and indisputably advocates using violence and oppression to enforce its values, into a country with a culture based around democracy, secular government, and upholding human rights for all equally - obviously there will be conflict. And when the introduced culture insists that anyone who dares to disagree with or challenge it is evil and an enemy to be destroyed... there really is no way of resolving the problems that result. Being opposed to Islam and not wanting to live with Muslims isn't racism -- it's acknowledging that Islam is fundamentally harmful, dangerous, and incompatible with ALL non-muslim cultures.

It can be. Why? Because in most cases people would rather have relationships with those people that are similar in culture and appearance. A minority of people have long-term relationships with people outside of their own culture. Sometimes when these mixed relationships breakdown often differences in culture can be a factor. One main factor for people not mixing outside their own ethnic group is what people find attractive. Of course everyone is different in their own way. This is not about discrimination it is basic human nature. This is what people need to consider instead of going on about racism and so on.

We are facing the same disastrous levels of immigration here in Australia. In the 20th century we had an average level of immigration of around 75'000 each year. That has been widely regarded as positive for the country and social cohesion was high. People, as you said, celebrated and expressed their varying cultural backgrounds with family and friends while living and working for the wellbeing of the society and Australian egalitarian view of life. That has gone now as we have thrown open the doors to hundreds of thousands of immigrants from India and China. We have been told to accept 400'000 immigrants this year alone. We have lost almost all the vestiges of community we once took for granted. It's a disaster. Thank you for what you are doing in the UK. Let's hope for a similar voice here soon.

We are having the same issue here in NZ, mate. We don’t have as many as 400k immigrants coming in to NZ but we are taking in over 100k nowadays. NZ is a small pacific island nation. NOT China 2.0 , NOT India 2.0 or USA state 51. These people don’t understand ‘blending in’ or integration’. That's the measure of it, indeed! Only some of us like mingling culturally more than others, and it shouldn't be forced. In the work place it can be necessary, but need not be in social settings. I'm back in South Africa now, and I'm half English half Afrikaner, and letting each decide is but a small part of it: it is impossible to negotiate with hardline socialists & communists, and forcing the mix is not a place to go to. Even the town of Oranja is based on promoting the Protestant faith & the Afrikaans language: many non-whites share that outlook too, so at some time one of those ethnicities will wish to join. Chinese, South Asian, etc, etc. Thus, being racialist is but identifying with who you are. That remains our shyness in England, perhaps.

"United we stand, divided we fall" especially when the diversity is forced upon the population in large numbers and no attempt is made to assimilate those comming in who have different beliefs and values and also language. A society needs to be cohesive for it to be successful in the long run. Slow immigration of people who want to wholly and fully become part of that society is best.

It truly breaks my heart, when I come across scenes of Hackney, Earls Court, Finchley and the Barbican all places I know so very well, I often am close to tears, not for my self but the treachery and insult to our parents generation that went to war, and many died to keep this country British, which now thanks to f******* bastards in positions of power such as Bliar to allow the invasion which has now happened. In Canada, the stated objective of the government is to increase the total population to 100 million from the current 40 million by 2100. Since the birth rate is so low, immigration is the only option. To this end, we are getting about 500,000 newcomers a year. Britain and Canada face different geographical circumstances. The Canadian elite is most likely concerned by the potential threat of annexation by the US. It would be difficult for Canada to maintain its territorial sovereignty with a dwindling population. I understand that greater cultural diversity brings with it its own set of challenges. However, maintaining the traditional Canadian euro-centric monoculture is no longer a possibility. The best that can be hoped for is that the different immigrant groups will balance each other out, that no one group will predominate. During the 19th century, groups from very different ethnic and cultural backgrounds fused themselves together, creating one national identity. The best case scenario would be for this process to reoccur once again, given the necessary resources and leadership.

I've seen the workplace as a microcosm of what too much diversity does to society. People form their own groups and cohesion breaks down because competing interests don't feel heard. Without a common unity, the competing interest groups will tear society apart. It's impossible for everyone to be heard, all the time. I don't know what the secret to success is, but the secret to failure is trying to please everyone. Life's not fair. Sometimes you're going to be left out and sometimes you're going to be unheard, because it's for the greater good. We need to stop changing the rules of the game to please people on the fringes. It's time they learn the rules to keep up with the rest of us. You think China is worried about diversity? They're not changing the rules of the game for anyone

It's not about colour. The coloured people that came to Britain from the various parts of the empire (Commonwealth) after the war assimilated very well, despite the lack of welcome and racism they faced from so many white Brits. Hong Kong still fights hard against the monster of communist China, because of the assimilation of Victorian British values. It about culture not colour. Oh yes, because their money stopped, Britain was broke after WWII and ended the empire. The majority of immigrants coming here today, their countries were not even in the empire, we have everyone here from every country in the world near enough. Nothing to do with having an empire. BTW the Windrush were never invited, nor did they have any passports, so were illegal immigrants. The Government tried to stop the boat docking and have it diverted. The boat operators advertised cheap passage in Jamaica, to fill the boat, by the private greedy boat operators from New Zealand. Britain never asked them to come! Britain had taken in 80,000 European refugees and advertised for European Voluntary Workers (EVW) was the collective name given to continental Europeans invited by the British government to work in the UK in the immediate Post-World War II period, to help people who have become homeless during the war and to support labour shortages in industry.

How can I ‘like’ this more than once? The other point that is mostly ignored is that most of Britain’s post war immigration was from colonies of the British Empire ie those who were raised with Anglophile education, a Christian background and adhering to common law and a sense of ‘fair play’. Now we have millions of immigrants with NO understanding of what it is to be British, it’s history or values. It’s nothing to do with the colour of skin (that is just a weaponisation), it’s about culture and those things we have in common. We are being forced to accept those who despise OUR culture and history and even apologise to those we have supported in liberation, self determination and nationhood. The irony is lost on most, unfortunately.

These people come to our country's and say this is not good enough or this is not the way it should be. Sorry you are in our country and those are the ways we do things. If you dont like it, dont come. Also if I came to your country, the last thing I would try to do is change everything. That is not right and I have no right. They do the things they do because that is their culture. It is up to me as a guest of said culture to assimilate and try to learn their customs. @@user-mq5rh6ew7p The vast, vast majority of migrants do not come to a country and then say it is not the way it should be. That's a myth. The majority of migrants try very hard to fit into the country in which they arrived. They are employed, contribute to the economy, pay their taxes, etc. You won't see a migrant standing in the street telling people to adopt one of his beliefs or way of doing things. Most of the time, it's the society in which they arrived that wants them to completely erase all traces of their culture of origin. And these people can't really do that, or they will run the risk of being ostracized by the other members of their own community, family, and friends. And most migrants do not insult the citizens of the country in which they arrived : they don't say that those citizens are racists, that's also a myth. The vast, vast, vast majority of migrants only say that other people are racist when they have been, indeed, victims of racism. There is a young teenage boy of 17 years old named Nahel who was killed in France by a policeman just a few months ago : this young boy wasn't even a migrant, he was living in France according to the French laws, and that policeman just shot him and killed him with a bullet in the head. It was a murder. And it was even filmed and caused major outrage in France among people of foreign origin. These people were entirely justified to be outraged. But the French authorities did nothing. The murderer isn't in jail to this day.
