Minecraft survival. Today we scout the location for a future Witch Farm project and begin clearing some land / setting up base. Then we build a fence and investigate if the broken gold farm works properly again in 1.8.4.

One option for the witch farm would also be to make a plattform ontop of it, skytrap style. So you can avoid the digging.

etho, my only issue with your fence is that it looks out of place. It looks broken down, while your path looked very clean. if you changed the path to fit it, I think it would look better.

There were a few on there that I forgot he did not finish yet because they aren't huge projects that require a of off camera work (when compared to the nexus of course :p) Love the fence as well (forgot to add that in first comment)! Fuzzy Frenchfry When bed were first released in minecraft, Etho had a dirt house with enough room for a bed. It had a window of course too. This was in his first lp though. He does have a place where he has his bed at one entrance/exit to the mancave. I forget the purpose of it though. It's past the popup sheep farm (to the right of the golden door if you are looking from the grass path).

i like how etho does stuff, cause it is totally cooler than watching someone take like 3 episodes to build a whole witch farm, and two whole episodes being clearing land, another one building some huge structure, than finally you get the witch farm. He just always keeps it exciting, also when he comes back to something he hasn't worked on in a while i get super excited because i forget about it because some times he just doesn't work on it for a while, like i completed forgot about the arena, until he mentioned it in his list lmao, but now i am excited that he may just randomly bring it up in a later episode.

Etho, the 128 block radius perimeter can be centered in your AFK spot, so you can actually layout your perimeter to leave the farm at the border, and thus exclude the mountains from it. since it looks really plain on the other side of the hut it should be doable.

But, Etho... the slimes spawn regardless of light level only in slimes chunks under level 40. When they spawn in the swamp, they only spawn at light level of 7 or less, so you can just light up the area instead of flooding it. Anyway, it's too late now, but maybe next time...

the spawn radius is a spherical shape, so if you build a platform in the sky that just barely encloses all of the witch hut spawning spaces, you can ignore caves and terrain clearing/lighting

Slimes only spawn regardless of light level underground, in the swamp it needs to be 7 or less. Check the wiki if you want.

Etho I think the fence is great but first the path needs to find as its to clean and second there is no structure with the same thematic, only big wood trees and the weed farm. You might build an abandoned spooky house behind the fence and the trees and open a path to it. Also hide the enderpearl portals

I'm watching these videos for the first time, in 2019. I only got into minecraft recently, but it is a truly amazing game and I'm upset with myself that I didn't realize that a long time ago. I have been digging through a lot of older content from various creators both because it's fun but also because I have a lot to learn. As such, I've been working my way through your LP from the time you generated this world. I bring all this up because I got to 15:04 of this video and I exclaimed out loud, "You still haven't fixed that damn spot where the ghast blew up your rail line!" and then I started laughing because A) immediately after that all hell broke loose, B) this all happened 4 years ago, and C) leaving it there, possibly to annoy people, is a classic Etho move, as I've learned from watching your stuff these last few weeks. I am 99% sure that slimes do not ignore light levels when spawning in swamp biomes. They ignore light in slime chunks only. In swamps, they only spawn in light level 7 or lower.

Dude, he can make a mini nexus on the side to just store items, a whole different place just to drop books into. He wouldn't have to make a retrieve place just to drop books off which would just be hoppers, water, ice, and chests and no more work then that. Maybe a way to get in that room though.

Etho, Slimes will not spawn above light level 7 even in swamp biomes and, with 1.8, they will also despawn if 36 blocks or more away from all players after ~50 seconds. The only thing you have to worry about is chicken jockies laying eggs and then zombies picking up the eggs. Or slimes in caves drowning and then zombies picking up the slime balls. These mobs, in their will-not-despawn state, as far as I know will NOT contribute to the mob cap so even if you had over 100 zombies in the area holding eggs or slime balls, they will not affect witch spawning rates. They will only contribute to lag and/or frame-drop once enough of them are in the area. This issue is fixed just by lighting up the surface and caves.

fcnemr I just checked, and as of the most recent world download, you are correct. But, in all honesty, why have Emerald Village when you have the Underground Village? They both perform the same function, but the Underground Village is (in my opinion) better by design then Emerald Village

I absolutely LOVE the hedge/ruble/fence thing I think it looks AMAZING I'm so jealous, but maybe to make it "in" context you could have random houses/huts that the path could lead to, to make the fence make more sense. Just an opinion...

EthosLab Slimes only spawn at light levels 7 and under in swamps, so you could just torch the land. It's not the same formula as with slime chunks. Also, you could try shuffling some cobblestone into the path to better match the fence. On another note, if you're having trouble with budgeting gold for powered rails you could just use fewer of them. You only need one every 34 blocks to maintain maximum speed traveling straight on level ground.

ETHO! You should build an old-ish style village behind that wall, made of wood with stone bases and very high roofs! I think it would look really cool behind the wall you made, and it would fill in the emptiness, or make a forest out of those trees you made in that area!

That was a good building tip. I think I'm going to try it because I stink at building. Also your building has definately improved. Seeing your older builds in one shot and your newer builds in the next shows to me a definate improvement, so keep doing what you're doing. And another random thought, prismarine bricks might go well with the sandstone and purple wool in the nether hub.

I thought it was only underground in slime chunks where slime spawn regardless of light level - I'm pretty sure slime in swamps require lvl7 or below.

etho has really high expectations for witch huts. From what I can tell that is some of the best terrain generation he could have gotten for a witch farm since its a submerged swamp with an ocean right next to it.

By that cobble fence, make some ruin type of thing with similar block types. So the wall and the ruin kind of match but aren't so plain

I have a suggestion regarding the laggy enderporters that randomly teleport you: If you ever get around to building a proper nether portal system, you might want to move that whole contraption into the nether. You don't need to build them as far apart, and you won't get teleported while you're in the overworld. Downside is, you have to go into the nether to use it though.

Etho! Slime's don't ignore light level in swamps, they spawn the exact same way as all hostile mobs. Torches would work!
