Etho Plays Minecraft - Episode 413: Bounce Chaining

Minecraft survival. Today we try out the Nexus for realzies, put some items in it and test out some speed benchmarks. Then we play around with a slime block launcher idea and try to hook up the lights in the nether hub.

The reason the elevator isn't working is because there is an optimal speed for the items to arrive at, Test's video steers the items around a corner a few blocks before the fence post to adjust the item speed :-)

xisumavoid Good to know, xisuma. Thanks. The hopper issue however, is due to the hopper timing where it applies to stacks of 64 moving past the sorting hopper. It triggers the comparator and releases the signal to drop an item, but the hopper (sometimes, on a randomly frequent bad timing) drops any of the entities at the top, causing a glitch with the items above, drawing the wrong items INTO the wrong hopper. The glitch is less frequent when you name your items as Etho has done, but it still can happen when you are moving bulk stacks of entities. It has to do with hoppers averaging the load from every other hopper. Some can skip a hopper. I have learned to place two item sorters in tandom to redundantly reduce the property of the "glitch" or "state" that hoppers "are"... When a stack (64 items) is draw into the first hopper, the second may not make it into the hopper, the second hopper pulls it in, but if more than two stacks are coming, then it will fail again around the fourth stack. The work around is to do what Etho did, circulating the items around more than once. For this reason, I have not wanted to do a "Nexus" like build, opting instead for bulk silos which I sort manually, i.e. One item such as stone, gets placed into a giant silo, next to another separate silo for say, dirt, or sand. Mob farms are about the only decently spaced out item dropping builds that can yield good results for this type of item sorting, the drops are not numerous enough (unless you are doing a "Too Small" build) for the hoppers to fail.

You made 2 mistakes.The items for the elevator come in too fast. Slow them down with a non ice block 3 blocks before the fences. Second, have a 3x3 base out of blocks under the central fence.

Pretty sure that, on the bounce chain, you just need to make the centre platform longer. So that you get a block or two of running space to reset your speed.

Hey Etho! I remember your original slime launcher vid, I explored the concept myself right after watching it in an old video on my channel. It might not be useful anymore since it only looked into stationary launchers, but I did manage to make a compactified design using a tripwire and a delay mechanism to relaunch the player without having to touch WASD.

Most story driven games like the LucasArts games was even better as a grown up though, probably due to english not being my first language and you just get more of the jokes as an adult than when you were like 8 :) I replayed both Theme Hospital and Theme Park however like a year ago and thanks to Bullfrogs very special and enjoyable kind of humour, they were still quite good! A modern, more advanced remake would be great though.

Dear Etho, I was wondering if there was ever going to be another mindcrack server or anything like that. That was my favorite series by far, I loved seeing you guys hang out and interact with each other. I loved all the pranks you guys did to each other. Also I think EthoCorp was one of the best and coolest things I had seen. I loved seeing you work on the building and the redstone, I think EthoCorp could totally be a business in real life, like where you delivered food items or something, but that's besides the point. I feel like all of the guys from the mindcrack server have gone there separate ways and I find it quite sad. Wow. Just.... Wow. I just finished pretty much this entire series. (Sorry, I skipped to the new world.) I just want to say, this is one of my favorite series. I love how you mix the goofy builds with the functional builds and make them blend seamlessly. It is awesome. Since watching this series I have started paying more attention to the aesthetics of my builds and not just the function. The man cave has really inspired me and I have used a couple of your designs. Etho, for the slime block launcher chain, I did a similar thing a while ago, and I found that the only way I could make it fairly consistent is if I had a bit of a run up after each launch, so having a 2 or 3 block landing/running platform before each launcher might help.

Hey Etho, love the new videos, waiting for your terraria episodes, really hyped about it! Yeah, I think proabably when you was mining stone it fell into the storage :P To "speed up" things when requesting items from nexus I think you could build something to do in the meantime. xP Your slime block launchers fails because when you take fall damage your sprint resets and if you dont sprint while going in your slime block launcher it fails in that case, that's whats happening! You could make repeaters like 1 2 3 4 3 2 1 2 3 4 ticks so it would look cool or you could do in different corners differently - in one as I said 1 2 3 4 3 2 1 and in other 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 and so on :P aand you could build a beacon in the middle of your nether hub somewhere so you one hit pigmen! ^^

Etho: By the way, with one of the last few 1.8 updates, Slimeblock launchers have become far more reliable on servers - just in case you might wanna try something similar on Hermitcraft for example. On our server with 1.8.7, we haven't had a single player where it didn't work so far, even though some of them live on the other side of the planet. (Only exception with servers: Spigot-servers running NoCheatPlus with the SurvivalFly-check actively preventing things - this does still prevent Slimeblock launchers from working with player entities)

Hey Etho!! Love your videos!! If you have ever seen those cool slime block "roller coasters" , they are very similar to what you are trying to do in the amplified biome. You should check some out!! The main difference between what you have so far and these coasters is that the slime blocks are connected by a redstone signal and not triggered by pressure plates. They also require no running start, so you stand I one spot and hit a button and off you go! I would consider this, because they are much more consistent than the system you have set up now!! Thanks for being awesome!!!

Etho, have you tried installing Optifine? I notice you said at one point in your video that you locked your FPS at 30, while I average at 120 FPS on servers with tens of thousands of people. Its free, easy, and if you haven't installed it already, I think you'll find it very beneficial. It think might also help with your slime block problem.

fraps (which I believe is what he uses) locks your frames at 30 at default. His rig could definitely get at least 60, and I think he stated the reason he doesn't is because it is longer to upload. Hope that helps :)

He records at 30 fps bc uploading at 60 takes a hell of a long time. Anyone with a good graphics card, like Etho, can get over 120 frames on all high settings while playing (without optifine ofc) but there's no point if the video won't capture it.

You might try putting solid blocks around the item elevator. That may have an effect on where the items end up. And same for the top of the elevator, put blocks all around it so the items only have one place to go in a 3 by 3 area. And the slime things seems to be affected by momentum. If you run from farther back you miss the second jump, but when you start closer, and have less momentum you make it. A way you could solve that is put a block to stop you so you can still hold forward, but you would end up in the right place each time to get launched.

For the slimeblock launcher: in the center island, perhaps try adding an extra line of intermediate dirt blocks between the 2 launchers. This may help you get up to the correct speed before running over the pressure plates.

For the platform jumping : do a landing base of line 1 block because whats making you lag is that in minecraft when you land your speed reduces a bit so if you do a landing platform of 1 or 2 blocks it can let your character to build up his speed again Hope you read this Ethi -From a big fan: Alex

You won't be able to brew a levitation potion in 1.9 but the new mob called "Shulker", which spawns in the new "End Cities" (the new End dungeons) gives you the levitation effect if you get hit by its projectiles.

it because the items come in straight at the fence post and gets stuck on the post. Therefore, when other items go by the stuck one collects them due to the grouping of items now. To fix this you just need to add a stream coming at 90 from the block with the post on it about 3-5 blocks back. this will push the items to the side and allow them to go buy. This happened on mine.

For the slime block jumper. You could try a two wide gap in between the two rows of pressure plates. Maybe it is the pistons from the previous slime block jumper which makes a little delay for the second jumper to not work as smooth as it should. EDIT: And as for the binary display I think it should display from right to left. like 0000 0001 for 0 1 and 1001 0001 for 7 1.

Hey Etho, i think the problem with your slime launcher chain is that you have the speed effect which gives the piston no time to trigger for you to get pushed! Keep up the great work Etho!

For the slime block launcher pad in the middle with pressure plates,add another block for running room. It seems that would help

Etho, for the launch pads, make the two on the platform further apart. So you have more run up after the first jump. The speed you are going right after the first jump is probably what is messing it up. So moving the two launchers on the second platform further apart might fix that.

Name it Springtop Hills and also you should make your bounce chain a old collapsed bridge so that there are holes in between the launch pads and watch towers hide the launch pads as well, that would make it look really cool!

Etho The name of the amp base could be called mount jumper, because it references the early 2000s movie called jumper in which a guy could jump like in the game portals from place 2 place.

Hey Etho, I think the reason your slime chain worked when you put up the "running barrier" was because it limited your sprint charge-up time. keeping you at a pace slightly lower than normal sprint. This fact put you a little further back on the initial slime block when you fell onto it. THIS caused you to be hit by the sideways block a bit harder, thus making your head barely tap the wall from the next jumping section (from what slight variation I noticed in the video) FINALLY THIS put you at the same speed you were going from the first jump, and because they were the same speed, you were indeed able to chain the jumps consecutively. Feel free to tell me why I am wrong (or possibly right). I would like to see if my sprint charge-up theory is correct. GOOD LUCK ETHO!!

Etho, for the jump chaining try building it to use when just walking forward, not running. You stop running when you land and it causes your speed to vary , which affects the timing and where it pushes you forward.

I'm pretty sure the reason the second bouncer wasn't working is because you were hitting your head on the block above. It was breaking your sprint, and it might've worked some times because you were holding control. Keep up the great work, Etho!

Hey Etho, you should consider for your next project to be an area where you can collect all of your automatic farm loot. Like the poppy farm, mob farm, etc. Also, you should take a "vacation" away from your man cave and spend more time at amplified terrain. Keep up the amazing videos, they give me something to look foward to during school.

For the name of your base you could call it Vertical elements, and also instead of floating islands you could put the launchers on large stone brick pillars to add some realistic element to your sort of fantasy base.

Etho! Fix that ceiling in the Nether hub! Have the ice spread out from the center of the room like the ice is fracturing through the ceiling. Like how glass cracks when you throw a ball at it.

Risk of Rain is great, you just have to give it a chance and play for a minute to understand it. The key is to balance your time with getting items. As time goes on, the difficulty goes up. The first thing you almost always want to do is get to the teleporter on each level. I was obsessed with this game for a while, then I got The Binding of Isaac Rebirth, aaaand it was over. BoI is my favorite game now :)

For the "Bounce Chain" i think there are too many variables to get it to work 100%. I think that if you introduced more constant variables it could work, for example, Put a row of soul sand before the pad, so when you run it will slow you down and reset your walk speed to the same speed every time, or on the landing of the second one, make a wall that you hit so it resets your walking speed to the same speed every time you launch. I think for the slimeblock launcher just do an upward facing sticky piston and make a platform out of slime blocks so when you get prepoeled from the starting launcher its hits you up but you keep your momentum

Etho, it depends on your y-rotation (rotation left right) if you look straight along the x and z axis it may work all the time. but if you look slightly left or right it may not work anymore. You could also try double piston extenders. Idk, just experiment, works for me often!

If you want a discrete way to connect redstone over caverns, use tripwires. inverting the signal can pervent you from triggering it by mistake.

etho, your speed is very crucial 4 the jumping pads, if you have the beacon speed buff, than you will be able to get it while walking, if you do not than you will have to run, but your run gets canceled by the head bump that you get from the next launcher, i think that making sure you have a speed buff when you try to jump those slime launchers that that will make it work, so you probably should start the wither killing soon, awesome vid as usual, keep being an awesome youtube

Nice video Etho! For the SLime Block Launchers, space the two launchers in the centre further apart. At the moment they are only 1 block apart. try 3-4.

I was not at Minecon but I read up that you can put potions on arrows Levitation potions also you have two hands that you can hold items in but you steel right click and to change hands,by default is f.

Hey Etho, have you heard of a piston house? It's a house that has all sorts of useful redstone creations. You can have a basement and an attic as long as it stays within the house dimensions. For example, 15x15, 9x9, or 11x11. I thought it would be cool if you tried the challenge out since you are so good at redstone! Keep up the awesome work!
