I come back to this episode every so often. Catharsis, maybe. But also-with 2 years distance I think I can say it’s a genuinely beautiful piece of narrative nonfiction. A memoir of grief told entirely through the thousands of small tasks and mundane frustrations that come before and after a passing. It also features Etho the storyteller at his most eloquent, and ends with gentle reassurance that grief need not be done in solitude, that games can be a comfort, and that good friends will wait for you to come back. This was well done, Etho. Thank you for sharing with us

Etho, I’ve been watching your videos for basically a decade. Of course we’ll stand by you. I think your philosophy on any hard problem just being a function of “time put in” is utterly true. One step at a time can solve anything. Very sorry to hear about the whole situation. I actually study the brain for a living, and I understand how difficult things can get. It seems like you’re doing well, but I’m still glad to hear you have a good support network. Im selfishly glad you’re making videos again, but honestly, if you need to take more time away even just to spend time with your brother, I’m all on board. I hope the rest of the things you need to get done have less additional problems added on! Your attitude on life is deeply refreshing. I wonder sometimes if you realize how much of an effect you’ve had on your fans over the years. It’s not about how good of a minecrafter you are. It’s about who you are as a person.

Etho, My son was born in 2012. I had a five year old daughter that wanted to learn to play video games then. We picked up Minecraft and started watching this shy young man teach us awesome things like EATS Roads and redstone grinders. It was an invaluable time for me and my daughter since there was a new kid in the family. All of my kids (theres three!) play Minecraft now. We discovered the Hermits because of you and we've advanced our Minecraft game a bajillion points. We have a server we maintain and have about ~20 other kids and adults that play with us. We stream it! A a whole community built all from one video back in 2012. It hurts my heart to hear the tough time you were going through. And as a business owner, as soon as you said TAX SEASON, I started to cry and laugh. Only you, Etho, could make that happen. My son is 10 years old now, my daughter 16. I am no longer a young man grasping at straws to be a dad because you helped. You've made it so my kids think I'm cool, so we have something in common and something to brag about to their friends. Thank you Etho. I'm very sorry for your loss my distant internet friend. I'm very impressed with how you're handling this and how you sprung into action. i come back to this video a lot. Toward the end of 2024 it sits in my heart in a few different ways. First, I lost my grandmother and both of my childhood dogs to untreatable causes not related to age and partially to cancer. I was unable to be very close with my grandmother toward the end but the words said about money and taxes hit so hard. second, i was homeless and had a hard time even having accesses to my family at that time. Third, doctors wouldnt take the situation at all seriously with any of my family, which is so stressful and infuriating. My heart forever goes out to you Etho. You have been a voice and creative drive by my side for the better half (or more) of a decade now. I have changed, you have changed; but there is still growth and love every step of the way. I’m sorry for your loss, and I really appreciate how you took the time in this video to explain what was going on. It couldn’t have been easy. Peace and love

I started watching your content in 2011ish as a middle schooler. I have since deployed in combat with the military, married, divorced, became and continue to be an extremely successful sheriffs deputy with primary role being special operations. I said that to say I have seen a lot in life and been through a lot in the past 6 years. Your content is a timeless and wholesome escape, you’ve done more for me than you’ll ever know. You are appreciated and held in high regard my friend.

On the other hand, you have proved to me beyond any doubt how sweet and optimistic you are and I know that what ever happens, no matter how many videos you make, you'll always be there to make me and everyone else watching smile and laugh as you find diamonds and cover them with moss

Etho, I’m so sorry about your father. Ironically, you helped me through when my father passed when I was young, and I wish you would have someone like you for yourself. I’m glad you seem to be doing well mentally-you give others strength through your own. On another note, I wish I could meet you. Has anyone ever recognized you in public just by your iconic voice? I think I would, having heard it SO much. Take care, much love, glad to see you back ❤️

Hey Etho, it's wonderful to see that despite all the craziness going on in your life you are still able to maintain that cheery attitude that you've always had. I wish you luck going forward and peace to you and your family as well. Thanks for being so awesome Etho.

It's a bit rough. I can't imagine having to sort it all out on top of all that. I feel for my Mam and going through it together with their siblings. You have my greatest sympathies Etho. Etho, just so you know, around 20 minutes you start talking about you wanting your videos to be more about the game, and if that's what you want great. I can't speak for everyone, but ill say on my part. I've been watching your vids since I was 8, first video I ever saw was Episode 4 of the original series. I'm 19 now, and as I've matured as a person I've gotten to watch you mature as a youtuber. It's been great journey to be here, and I'm sure it will continue to be. I quit playing minecraft years ago, as work and school has taken over my life, but anytime I see one of your videos pop up I have to watch it, Because its YOUR video. Yes I love the games you play and how you play them, but its that YOU are playing them. So if you feel the want to express more of yourself in this hard time, and want to tell stories, please don't be afraid to do so. I'm really sorry for your loss, and I'm going through something similar with my grandma. Thank you for everything you have given me. Continue to be you.

Etho, I’ve been a subscriber for a long time and it’s odd to find myself in a situation where I understand what you or another KZbinr is going though. My father was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor in July of 2021 and was given 12-15 months to live. A lot of things in my family’s life were put on hold and I can completely sympathise with what you were and are going through. We found out suddenly, he struggled to speak one day, and we thought he’d had a stroke. When doing scans, they found a large mass in his brain. I’m glad that you have people around you that support you and care about you and your family. Thank you for sharing your story, it has helped me tremendously. Thank you for your videos and I hope that you continue to find peace.

I really like this format Etho, You mention that you want your videos to be positive, but to me hearing about you so lovingly supporting your family is about as positive as it gets. And for us as viewers it's great to get insight in your life as well, not only as explanation of any breaks in content but also because we watch your videos because we're interested in you, as well as the game. I can see why you don't want to give an update/mention it every video, but a chill update video while caving like this every once in a while would be very nice imo

Etho, You are truly inspirational. I was a child, truthfully a child, when I started watching your content here on youtube. I had seen you in a Vintagebeef episode, some team Canada stuff, and started to see your own series and watch them as they came along. I am now 20 years old, and halfway through college. You have been a central part of my life for that entire time. To know that you are going through any form of grief is heartbreaking. The fact that you felt the need whatsoever to explain to your audience the situation is both humbling and baffling. It is only fair that we be patient for you. You're different. It's not solely the content that I come here for, in regards to the games you play. You as a person, have been a most major influence on our lives as both a teacher and quasi friend on this platform. And if we say we see you as our friend and teacher, then it should be only fair that we act like it and support you in your own time of need like you have done for us countless times in the past. People watch you after breakups, after days of work, and after situations similar to your own. And you put a smile on their faces. I sincerely hope that you have someone or something very similar to what you have provided for us. A place to relax, settle, and relieve yourself of your stresses of the day for atleast a small bit of time. Take all the time you need. We will be back to watching you regardless. That sounds bold sure, income is important, but the people here will return to watching when you're ready. I know I longed to hear from you again, but being frank I was ready to be patient. Heck, I even have shown you to my long term girlfriend and now we watch your content together! So I know atleast, that we will be patient, and help you any way we can. Thank you for being a genuine and beautiful person, and I hope that this message gives even a modicum of joy.
