Etho MindCrack SMP - Episode 154: Wither Spleef

Today we try out a wither spleef game with the guys, and do some random stuff around the PVP arena and Ethopia.

I'm not sure what this minigame is called, but I believe it was made popular in France. A group of players make a big diving board really high over a 10x10 pool of water (1 block deep). Each player takes a turn jumping into the water, and each time they land in the pool, they place a block. It gets more and more difficult to jump in the pool and survive as people start filling it with blocks. Either the last man alive or the person who places the final block to fill in the pool wins the game. Good fun all around. It gets frustrating when you only have a few blocks of water to aim for.

Hey Etho, one of the funniest games we have ever played on our server was tennis. All you need to do is build a tennis court, get some punch 2 bows and one tennis ball (we used one of our friend with some projectile protection armour :-D). All sports equipment can be found in the skeleton farm at spawn. I strongly recommend you to try it out with the rest of the Mindcrackers. :-)

This is a game my friends and I used to enjoy quite a bit a while ago: So everybody gets a bow, arrows, weak to no armor, weak swords, and a stack or so of dirt. When the game starts, everyone goes and chooses a place to build and builds a protective fort out of the blocks and they start from there as a simple PVP game.

It's a real bummer that your audio was messed up for your commentary for the first bit. It made it seem very socially awkward, haha. I liked the concept of the game. I didn't think anyone would win. The arena is coming along real nice! A few more building sessions on your and Bdubs end, it might be complete. I can't wait to see this thing in action.

Etho, why aren't you using 'wireless' redstone? I know it sounds crazy to suggest that for Vanilla, but just listen to this theory: It will need someone to bring their camera account to the game, build a safe cell in the Nether and seal the camera account in there to keep the Nether loaded. Now, just like the short stairs in the Nether that Anderz built, build a gate underground and a gate in the sky and get the in-Nether gates as close to each other as you can without them interfering with each other. Now, depending on which team gets a point, dispense an item through the underground gate to send the item into the Nether, the side of the gate it is sent through is which team gets the point. Redstone in the nether so when an item is received, send an item through the corresponding side of the upper gate. Back in the Overworld, when an item is received from the Nether gate, increment the score of the appropriate team. It will just take some walls outside the Nether gates on both sides with a one space gap and row of hoppers to catch the items and feed them off to a chest, with the hopper prior to the chest detecting the item for score increment. With some work, you can probably even toss the items back through the gate (but higher up, of a little over with a wider gate) so manual resets of the transmission system are not required. Worth a try... I'll be trying it myself later... 'cause I only just thought of it.

Hey Etho! You can put a dispenser with TNT up at the display so when a team wins an explosion will be heard over the arena and the players know when to stop. Obiously you have water were the TNT explodes. Awesome video man!!!!

Etho, I think you should show both scores. If you have two displays, one on top of the other, it should work fine. Running the redstone diagonally [if you can in that space]. Seeing the score of both teams is important for a competitive feel. And you can work it all in to the rest of the build, having a tower in the middle connecting to the main building. It doesn't necessarily need to be functional [as in people don't need to get up it], but it would be an interesting way to make the redstone go up.

I agree, same as he did here, with the bridge to run the redstone on and as someone said maybe do a spectator bridge out of it, but definately have the scores showing for both sides.

Heya Etho, The scoreboard in the sky is a good idea. Make it look like it is supported by a crane or chain to run redstone to it. You could also incorporate a time-out or viewing box made of glass up in the air. Another idea you may like is have lamps inside buildings or landscape turning on and off to give more visual flavor for night battles.

Etho! I made a "T-Intersection" mob sorting system for your single player world! I think it might help you out, or at least help you figure out what you want to do with your mob system. The activator rails can be weird but I figured out a way to separate mobs and then have them all go to their own unique paths! I hope you can see it, and if anyone else wants to use it as well feel free :)

Hey Etho, I have a great idea for killstreaks for this PVP map. So both teams can have a special item that they hold in their hotbar (one RED wool for the RED team, and one BLUE wool for the BLUE team). Then when someone dies, they get the enemy's wool. After that they go back to their spawn room and can redeem a killstreak in a "KILLSTREAK SHOP" depending on how many of the enemy's wool they have. The shop could detect how many of the enemy's wool they have (through a comparator) and then would dispense something like: speed potion for 1 wool, or one ender pearl for 3 wool, etc. I really hope you read this, because it would be cool if you implemented this in the map.

First off I'd like to say its awesome that SMP won't die with everyone on ftb like last time. Also for the snow and ice theme Erhopia, it would be cool if you make all the mountains look like glaciers by outlining them with snow and ice, and covering the walls of cliffs in snow and ice. Also try to make some buildings in the mountains and have ice bridges, ice floors with deep chasms underneath, and ice walls instead of glass. I think any of that stuff would look really cool. One last thing, please use iron bars somewhere xD

Quarry Race: Every player gets a chunk of natrurally generated land, and has to dig the whole area down to bedrock, the player who gets there first wins, you are allowed to make chests to store items the game is usefull as well as fun for obvious reasons (you get tons of ores)

Here's a idea, Each of the minecrackers pillars up to near the build limit then build a house way up in the sky with bridges that would connect with their neighboring house in a loop. There would be a time limit on the building time and after the limit is reached, they would battle each other using swords or bow with the goal of being the last one standing. Beacons and potions such as invisibility, strength, health, etc. can be allowed or not allowed.

It can be bad I'd left on 24\7 for long periods.. like my friend his computer is much slower than would be if he wouldn't have NEVER turned it off.. he probably went 1-2 years with no restarts...

A lot of updates that download in the background need a restart, and the cache fills up. Its not just hardware reasons to turn it off sometimes...

One other way of doing the capture points system is to make the teams have to capture them in a specific order (starting with the closest one to spawn, then the mid point and then the enemy point) Fully capturing the second point (turning all the lights on for your team) will lock the first one, preventing the enemy from capturing it. Fully capturing the third will lock the second. None of the capture points can get locked for any team unless they (and their previous points) are fully captured. And you can't capture a point without owning the previous one (having at least one light on it). That way everybody knows where to go and where to expect the enemy. It would also make battles on the points much more intense and frequent since both teams will focus on them and want to spend more time on them, capturing. As for the scoreboard... you should invert it because the winning team will most likely be looking at it from the enemy's side of the map. I didn't quite come up with this idea, it's how he capture points in Team Fortress 2 work and they do a really good job at making it clear to people where they need to be in order to win.

To add with the score display idea--how about dispensers firing off snowballs when the Ice side is very close to winning (like your single-player fountain), and Flame arrows for the Fire side. Then fireworks when the game actually ends!

Etho you should use CNB minecraft's timer/counter and display to make the giant display. You can still do it with time but when it is adding, depending on how many points were scored you can have a longer pulse so that the memory cell will rotate more and add more per score. I'm pretty sure the timing would be simple and for a redstone master like you it should be a breeze. Just thought this was a goo idea. Have a good Day, Shadowdragon

Idea on inspiring more people to play the death games: Since the mindcrack server is tracking player kills now. With the kills you can make kits ex: 5 kills= Ranger kit 10 kills= ninja ect ect. So with those kits the person being attacked will not know what kit the other player will be using, just a suggestion. I miss the death games!

Etho, you should hide a diamond block in spawn (in spawn to make it fair) and who ever finds it has to hide it again. The first Mindcrakers to find the block three times gets to keep it. Maybe if nobody finds in a week of something the hider gets a point, just to make the game more challenging for the finders. Keep up your amazing videos! :D

Hey Etho! I'm not sure if you were planning to have a logo for your PvP mini-game, but I think it'd look really good if you made the arch over to the scoreboard stylised along the same themes as the two halves of the arena. Also, I was thinking that if you're going to connect the scoreboard at both sides anyway there's nothing stopping you displaying the scores of both teams to be visible from either end, unless that would be too bulky. In any case I can't wait to see what you and BdoubleO100 come up with, and for it to be unleashed for all the Mindcrackers to play.

Make a starting platform in the sky, then near bedrock have a big slime trampoline. Jump down and PvP in mid air. Add a ladder maybe for people who lose momentum or floating platforms.

I have an idea. You have blocks( any block) and you have to hide it in your segment. You have two segments, one per person. It is covered with grass blocks. You have to break grass block and hide block underneath. After 5 minutes(make a timer), a note block goes 'ping!' And you stop. Next, you go into the other competitor's segment and try and find all the blocks that are hidden. After 5 minutes(make a timer), it goes 'ping!' And you stop. Then, you place the blocks you have found and who ever has the most wins, if they competitors have the same amount of points, a randomizer picks a block and throws it out of a dispenser. The person with the wool that came out wins. Hope you take this into consideration, Etho, thanks.

Hey Etho I know you might not read this but I have a great idea for a game . Make and obsidian maze so the wither can fit in and move around but also with a roof so he wouldn't fly of. Make the other mindcrackers wear iron gear (including you) and who ever kills the wither in the maze gets the nether star. Also it will be PVP so if the mindcrackers see each other they kill or be killed!

I have a game idea...but not sure if it's a good game idea.... Night Maze, where you have to try and find the other player to kill them in the darkness (there are ways to make mobs not spawn right? webs..slabs? I forget...so this might not work haha..) But in some areas there are Pressure Plate or buttons that'll throw down one splash night vision potion to better chances to find and kill player in the dark maze. Or can just have a big closed off maze and try to get to the other side of the maze before a zombie kills you. When you first walk in over Pressure Plate it'll let out zombies in different areas of the maze that'll try and track you down. Name tag zombies so they wont despawn. First to the other side of maze wins~ But like I said, these could very well be bad ideas..since a lot of people hate mazes haha.

One other game the mindcrackers could play is Sheep Spleef. It is a battle for wool. Two teams dye sheep and shear them. The first team to build a flag of 24 wool wins, but the players can attack each other. If want more details I would be happy to help.
