Being down with the sickness isn't going to stop us from rambling about Amdapor, the War of the Magi and all the great trivia and references brought into patch 3.2!
This video extensively contains my own commentary and editing and is intended for educational purposes.

My new favorite pet theory is that, as White Magic at its base is the power to intercede with the Elementals and great spirits, the Sin of Amdapor was, in fact, binding Elementals as sources of aether and power for these especially powerful animated statues. They had to do something to gather up enough power to match the Black Mages who were binding powerful Voidsent, and crossing that moral event horizon was what brought on the flood.

Seeing this after going through Shadowbringers. It's interesting to see in a the First comparisons. The Sin Eaters, beings of light, mirroring the White Mage Golems from before. The pessimistic of me might lament the cheaper model-reuse, but it makes sense from a lore perspective that two incarnations of light would be similar thus.

I was under the impression that the old white mages pulled sin eaters from the first the same way the black mages pulled voidsent from the 13th

@@Christopher-eq1rn At the time of the olden White Mages, Sin Eaters did not exist. Sin Eaters came about in after Flood of Light began to consume the First. While this was 100 years prior on the First, those 100 years were only the span of the Stormblood timeframe on the Source. Adbert and co. went back with Minfilia at the end of Heavensward to stop the flood, when there were no Sin Eaters yet.

@@apljack the first and the source don't have the same rate of time. It's why your companions had been on the first for years while on the source it had only been a few days, the exarch mentions how sometimes it's shorter, and sometimes it's longer, you happen to come at one of the few times where the two stabilize

@@Christopher-eq1rn That's the point I was making. The Sin Eaters came with the flood of light, which came around the end of Heavensward on the Source. It was 100 years ago on the First, but only briefly to those of us on the Source. Even with rate of time differences, you can account for fixed points of reference for events. The amount of time between those points is different, but the moment events happen on both the Source and Shards is noticeable in the Calamities. Ardbert and Co. show up after causing the Flood of Light and go back with Minfilia. That is the start point, where Sin Eaters began appearing. The Ancient White Mages / War of Magi would have been before any existed on the First. What you see in Amdapor are essentially Light-Based Golems created by them.

Personally I had thought that the first boss had some sort of psychedelic spore on its scales and that we were actually hallucinating those copies of ourselves. The butterfly wings that are visible briefly, to me, made it seem like the physical attacks were the work of the magicked wamourae. The haze that covers the screen during this attack also made it seem like we weren't in full control of our senses and something in the air was interfering with them. That's my personal theory at least.

You must always remember with the mhachi that there were highlanders among them, proven by the numerous highlander statues in the void ark and city of mhach

Having just recently done the it, you also revisit this place during the lv70 Scholar quest. There was apparently a lot more interplay- and, to be fair, antagonism- among the three mage-cities of Mhach, Amdapor, and Nym.

The Amdapori's abuse of white magic made me think of the skill Cleric Stance. It's an interesting thought, that Cleric Stance could be a remnant of the Amdapori's offensive research which survived to be part of our skill set. It's a low level skill also, so do the Padjal use Cleric Stance themselves or is it's something we learn on our own, perhaps triggered by combat and learned through the echo? Sorry.. not so much a question but just me rambling. Got me thinking anyway, great video. Thanks!

Why only quesiton is that why Kuribu did not banish Diabolos the firat time he atacked the city so many many years ago? For the look of the fight we had, it seems it was never used on the first place. What was the AF2 for Mhach and Amapor? a far ancient gear or newer?

@ethys asher - the Winged Lion might also be a reference to the Winged Lions/Lamassu from Assyrian myth? As well as that, something interesting to note I'm not sure if you mentioned or not - the architecture of the Sanctum of the Twelve is almost identical to Amdapori architecture.

I never even considered that Reverse was the highest blasphemy of a white mage. I makes so much sense to me now, the Amdapori mages went so far as to absolutely corrupt something that was an absolute good. it's really messed up.

I think the fact that there aren't any other 'shade' type enemies of any other race than hyur can confirm. Tho I dont understand what so hard about ripping the formor type mobs from XI like they have so many other mob types.

The other out-of-placeism that bugs me is the clones in syrcus tower using thaumaturgical techniques (aka animations) when these weren't invented till the 5th Astral era, not to mention all the allagan weapons in the binding coil tailored to modern arts of war and magic. Though there could be a story behind that, perhaps?

Considering the end of ARR Hildebrand quest line we know Belah'dia had midlander nobility and aren't they direct descendants of Mhach? So maybe Mhachi were only mostly Lalafell. Though honestly I'm a little iffy on time scale in this game so maybe they came after.

Rather enjoyed the explanations going on here, especially the one for the first boss. And for telling me WHY IT WAS CALLED A MONK. I think you should revisit the Aetherochemical research facility, but there are plenty of options.

I sort of thought that Reverse was the original version of what would eventually become Cleric Stance. obviously a weaker version considering the kind if damage a Reversed Cure 2 would do.

Would there be a chance to have the city converted into a regular area? Perhaps just a different section of the city.
