The rise of the Garlean Empire in the Year 1522 of the Sixth Astral Era led to significant changes in the structure of Garlean society. This is most evident in the adoption of titles which serve to indicate an individual’s place within the social hierarchy.
Royalty: Zos - The emperor; Yae - Member of the royal family in the line of succession; Wir - Member of the royal family with no claim to the throne.

The spark of Lightning ignites when it strikes, and thus Fire is born.

Over the Horizon
Though there is some debate as to whether or not Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn and her League of Lost Bastards were the first Eorzeans to discover the western continent, there is no denying that their navigational charts were instrumental in establishing the major trade routes of today.
Moreover, the accounts from their expedition are widely regarded as both informative and entertaining. Of particular note is their first encounter with the Mamool Ja, as well as other indigenous peoples and creatures which seemed curiously intent on their demise.
These travel journals have since inspired a legion of explorers and treasure hunters to retrace the League's journey. Yet in spite of their numbers, the existence of "a bleedin' city o' gold" remains unconfirmed...
Leather-bound Diary
Beauty is ephemeral, but it needn't be. My lady Amandine knows this well, lovely creature that she is. Would that I could have the genuine article in my keeping... but alas, I shall have to settle for a pale imitation.
The vessel is not quite up to my usual standards, but beggars can't be choosers, as they say. I washed and anointed it per the instructions, then secured it to the bed with chains - wouldn't want her to get ideas above her station, oh no!
Gods, just the thought of it is enough to get my blood pumping! I can hardly wait to welcome my beloved succubus into this world!
The tentacles... so many tentacles! And the sound of it writhing on the bed! Gods, just listening to it is agony!

I nearly did a triple-take when you mentioned the "thing on the left" in the Natural History room. I died of laughter thereafter, I was not prepared for that aside at all. "Maybe some kind of fossilized dragon dick - I don't know, question of the day: what the fuck is that thing?"

Funny you didn't mention it, but Byblos is a boss from Final Fantasy V, from the Ancient Library dungeon, the same place Page 64 originates from. Byblos' dying line about his master's seal being weakened is straight homage to his earlier incarnation.

The last two journals you find, I believe, are not so much about Amandine's transformation (Though, chronologically, they may foreshadow such a thing happening.) as the chronicles of a creepy admirer. The author of those journals (probably just another Sharlyan scholar) makes his lust for his lady Amandine quite evident. Alas, he cannot have her (for various reasons, station likely being one of them.), so he settles for the next best thing: a succubus that looks like her, bound to him in thralldom. As we know from the triple-triad card, succubae ordinarily need a female corpse to possess in order to access this realm...so he 'acquires' a corpse of an Elezen maiden that bears some resemblance to his lady (Hence the references to him not having the 'genuine article' and it being a 'pale imitation'. The 'ideas above her station' too...most definitely not the actual Lady Amandine), follows instructions he's read from somewhere (likely the Necrologos) in order to summon a voidsent succubus into the body. Needless to say, he lives to regret his decision. What happens to the voidsent in the end is unknown. Though...t'would be an interesting twist of fate if this specific specimen ended up being Halicarnassus... In this way, it does not contradict the timing of the exodus as this could have happened at almost any time in recent history.

When you talked about the book tethering the summon to the world, my mind immediately connected that to the arcanist job and the fact that they carry a book. Maybe there's a connection there and the various grimiores and picatrixes they carry tether the summon they create into the world.

Gotta say I love these Lore Tour vids as I'm a bit of a lore nerd myself. Oh, I got a bit of a suggestion for the Umbral Zone! Maybe a piece on the insanity of Ser Yuhelmeric or the fall of the Dusk Vigil? Maybe it's because I had just read about Dyatlov's Pass when I ran that one but it really gave me chills and would love to hear your theories on the transformation the one respected Ser and his men underwent to become monsters. Can't wait for more.

I think if I were to rename a mob to Ethos, I would likely do Lady Amandine. The ascians' method of coercion was a play on her vanity, or reclaiming her looks. Her emotions were very much the driving force in her story. The notes in this very dungeon also make you try to feel some sort of emotional connection with her too :p

I like to believe that those books on the botched Succubus creation actually detail the creation of Ultros in Eorzea. When you first meet him they mention he was probably an accident of voidsent summoning.

I always called this hte "Great Gumball Library", I just imagine a library of gumballs and crack up. (On A side note, I made and alt thats a Potato-man and named it Evil Potato b/c of ur ARR abridged series). Anyways, love your vids, keep up the marvelous work

Hey Ethys! My likely thoughts are that The New World reference might well be a hint to the next expansion pack. It's also referenced somewhere else in Heavensward, but I can't remember at this time exactly where it was also mentioned. Some quest text perhaps.

I would name a Succubus "Pathos"! Considering they're demons who feed on a very "particular" form of emotional energy, and are generally summoned in search of satisfying certain emotional cravings..well, I feel it'd be fitting. And it would fit with the Voidsent/Ghosts theme, with Logos having a Dullahan model.

Idk if anyone here has commented on this but its called The Great "Gubal" Library because its situated in Mt. Gubal which is marked on the map just to the east of the dungeon entrance.

Marolith may be a nod to the trading card game Magic: The Gathering. In it, a "Maro" creature or spell has it's power equal to the number of cards in your hand, where these cards represent the knowledge and spells at your disposal. "Lith", stemming from lithic, pretty self-explanatory.

If i had to rename a mon in FFXIV "Ethos"; i'd have to choose the Gremlins from Lost City of Amdapor as the taunts they use when using their "Misery" attack are pure appeals to emotion (admittedly purely to incite sadness/self doubt).

Is it possible that the book we keep seeing throughout the Library is actually a complete copy of the Necrologos? (The book we do a ton of Levequests around where we end up collecting pages from it?)

You fulfilled your duty as a mnk by staying on the boss and ignoring the mechanics. Also I loved this dungeon lore/commentary.

Maybe the repetition of page 64 has some similarities to the arcanist grimoires. Despite there being hundreds of grimoires, there are predominantly 2 patterns (scholar and arcanist), and the very ocassional summoner specific geometry. Maybe this page has some arcane significance besides the literal words inscribed on it, something that allows it to channel aether. What do you think Ethys?

The book about Amandine seemed to show the author was obsessed with her and he made a copy to be with "her". I don't think it was talking directly about what happed later on with the real Amandine, although it is a bit ironic that it really did happen.

Strange you say you couldn't find anything for 'Gubal'. Gubal was the Canaanite town that would later become the Greek city Byblos, producer of papyrus and root of terms such as bibliography and the bible. Much more straightforward that what you've been reaching for.

Regarding Marolith being related to monolith: Mono = one and Lith = stone, so Marolith is maro - stone, though I haven't quite been able to figure out what the 'maro' means

The page 64 enemy was also a boss in FF9. I think you had to hit it to get it to turn to page 64 so you could damage it.

Marolith I believe is a combination of Marionette and Monolith. So a "Puppet Stone" in essence.

Also a rather important boss in the original Final Fantasy. I played the remake on the GBA so I'm not sure if it was always there though. It then made a return in the last dungeon in FFIX, which was known for it's fan service. This along with the other 3 elemental fiends. I think it went Marilith, Lich, Kraken, and Tiamat. Not saying there are direct connections, but it's an interesting similarity. And yes, I know these comments are quite old but there's a part of me that can't restrain myself lol. Nobody talks or seems to even notice lore in this game, sadly.

If I could, I would rename the Succubii (Succubuses?) to Pathos, because it tends to be that a Succubus is a very lust-driven creature, appealing to the primal drives and desires of men in order to seduce them. Or at least have one Succubus named Pathos...but Pathos is a rather male-sounding word, maybe Patha? I think Halicarnassus would fit the bill for a Patha.
